There is no universal best controller preset for precision melee. Start with moderate look sensitivity, a response curve that gives you control over small stick movements, and the lowest look-stick deadzone that does not cause drift. Then test each change in your game: settings and melee aim assistance differ by title.
Which settings affect melee precision?
For close-range combat, the goal is to make small camera corrections predictable without making it difficult to turn toward another enemy. Sensitivity, response curve, and deadzone each affect a different part of that balance.

- Look sensitivity controls how quickly the view turns in response to stick input. Some games also offer a separate setting for aiming down sights; that may not affect melee.
- Response curve changes how stick movement translates into turning. A curve that gives you finer control over small inputs can help if you routinely overshoot nearby targets.
- Look-stick deadzone determines how much the stick can move before the view responds. A larger deadzone can prevent drift, but may make small corrections less responsive.
These controls are not interchangeable. In particular, a response curve cannot fix a stick that registers input while untouched; that is a deadzone or hardware-drift issue.

How to tune your controller
Use a training area or a low-pressure encounter if the game provides one. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped, and keep a note of your previous values so you can revert.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
- Begin at moderate look sensitivity. Use a setting that lets you turn to face a nearby target reliably, without sweeping past it. The right value depends on the game, controller, and your comfort; the available official guidance does not establish a universal number for melee.
- Test small corrections. Aim at a stationary target and make short stick movements. If the view jumps or repeatedly overshoots, lower sensitivity or try a response curve that gives small inputs more control.
- Adjust the response curve. Apex Legends, for example, describes Fine Aim as suited to small, gradual adjustments, Steady as balancing firm control with faster aim, and Linear as raw input. Those are options to compare, not proof that one curve is best across games.
- Find the lowest deadzone that stays stable. Leave the stick untouched and watch for view drift. If there is none, lower the deadzone gradually and test again. If drift starts, raise it slightly. Apex advises increasing its Look Deadzone only if needed and notes that a smaller deadzone allows better aim control. Battlefield 6 guidance recommends deadzones between zero and five when stick drift is slight or absent; that range is specific to that game, not a cross-game target.
- Retest turns and tracking. After each change, check both close corrections and faster turns between targets. If small movements feel good but turning becomes difficult, adjust sensitivity rather than undoing every other setting.
- Check assistance and button mapping. Look in the game’s accessibility and controller menus for aim assist that explicitly covers melee, as well as remapping options for attack and camera controls.
Check whether aim assist includes melee
Do not assume that an aim-assist option for shooting also affects melee. The Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Accessibility Guide lists Aim Assist for shooting, throwing items, melee fighting, and using the whip. That is a game-specific example; consult the current options or documentation for the game you play.
When controller-level profiles may help
Some controllers provide their own stick sensitivity and deadzone adjustments, separate from a game’s settings. Sony documents adjustable profiles and stick settings for the DualSense Edge on PC. This is an optional way to manage settings at the controller level, not a requirement for tuning melee controls. The cited PC support documentation does not establish compatibility across every platform.

- Tri-mode Connectivity: Wired for Xbox, 2.4G & Wired for PC, and Bluetooth for Android. The G7 Pro supports seamless connectivity across Xbox, PC, and Android. Effortlessly switch between modes using the convenient physical mode switch.
- TMR Sticks: The G7 Pro features GameSir's Mag-Res TMR sticks, combining Hall Effect durability with traditional potentiometer performance. This advanced technology delivers stable polling rates for smooth, drift-free gaming with low power consumption.
- Hall Effect Analog Triggers: The GameSir precision-tuned Hall Effect analog triggers provide unmatched smoothness and linear input for precise control. Featuring clicky Micro Switch trigger stops, gamers can easily switch based on their preferences.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
For the clearest results, avoid changing both a controller profile and the in-game stick settings at once. If you use both, keep track of which layer you changed so you can identify the cause of a new feel or unwanted drift.

The examples below illustrate why a copied preset is less useful than a controlled tuning process: setting names and guidance are tied to particular games or hardware.

| Example | What its official guidance says | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Apex Legends | Describes look sensitivity, ADS sensitivity, response curves, and Look Deadzone. Its guidance says to increase Look Deadzone only if needed; a smaller deadzone allows better aim control. Apex Legends Accessibility Features for PC. | Compare curve behavior and reduce deadzone only while the view remains stable. Do not treat its descriptions as a universal preset. |
| Battlefield 6 | Recommends deadzones between zero and five when there is little or no stick drift. EA’s PC and controller settings guide. | Apply that range only as Battlefield 6 guidance, not as a target for other games. |
| Indiana Jones and the Great Circle | Its accessibility guide says Aim Assist applies to shooting, throwing items, melee fighting, and whip use. Bethesda’s Accessibility Guide. | Check whether your own game explicitly includes melee in its aim-assist behavior. |
| DualSense Edge on PC | Sony documents adjustable stick sensitivity, deadzones, and profiles. PlayStation’s PC setup guide. | Consider controller-level profiles only if you want that extra adjustment layer; in-game tuning does not require this controller. |
If you still overshoot enemies
- Small movements feel too strong: lower look sensitivity or try a curve designed to make gradual adjustments easier.
- The view drifts with the stick untouched: raise the look deadzone just enough to stop the drift. If drift persists at a comfortable setting, changing the curve will not address its cause.
- Corrections feel delayed or unresponsive: test a smaller deadzone, but stop if drift appears.
- Attacks or camera corrections feel awkward: inspect the game’s remapping and accessibility options. There is no established optimal melee button layout across games.
Settings and their behavior can change with updates. Check the current in-game descriptions before applying a value from another title.
