Start with the game whose music you want to recognize, then check whether the release is an original soundtrack, a Pixel Remaster recording, a later game’s soundtrack, or a cross-game arrangement. That prevents the most common mistake: treating the original Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth albums as interchangeable. If your priority is a creator rather than one adventure, choose by credited composer—but read the full credit line because some albums are collaborative. Finally, verify the exact edition, disc format and track version. “Plus,” “Special Edit,” Blu-ray, vinyl and omitted songs can change what you actually receive.

How should I choose a Final Fantasy soundtrack?
Use this order: identify the game, identify the recording type, check the exact edition, then confirm the credited composer and format. “Final Fantasy soundtrack” is not one catalog category. A release can represent one game, a remake’s newly recorded score, a remastered version of older material, or an arranger’s selection from multiple games.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Pick the game or listening world. If you want the music tied to a particular adventure, begin with that game’s title rather than a composer search.
- Separate original, remastered and rearranged music. A Pixel Remaster CD is a remastered presentation of the named Pixel Remaster digital album; Modulation is a new arrangement, not a complete game score.
- Check the edition name. Remake Original Soundtrack Plus and Special Edit Version add or alter material and are not substitutes for the standard package.
- Read the physical-format line. CD, vinyl and Blu-ray require different playback equipment and may package music differently.
- Verify a desired song’s version. Recurring themes can appear in multiple arrangements, and a song title may include a version label such as “LOVELESS ver.”
Which soundtrack should I buy for the original Final Fantasy VII?
Choose FINAL FANTASY VII ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK when you want the original game’s score rather than music written or rearranged for the modern projects. The Square Enix Store listing credits Nobuo Uematsu with composing, arranging and producing and describes 85 tracks across four CDs.
The listing gives an approximate November 2021 product-release date. That date describes this physical product, not the year the game first appeared. The publisher’s listing is currently marked unavailable, so treat it as an identification guide and check current retailers for lawful stock rather than assuming the publisher has inventory.

What you get
- Four audio CDs.
- 85 tracks, according to the publisher’s product listing.
- A release centered on the original Final Fantasy VII game rather than Remake or Rebirth.
- Uematsu credited for composition, arrangement and production on the listing.
If a seller uses “FF7 soundtrack” without saying “Original,” inspect the catalog number and track list. A modern remake set can contain familiar melodies while being a different recording and a different purchase.
What is the difference between the original FFVII, Remake and Rebirth albums?
They are three separate soundtrack purchases. The remake projects have their own scores, expanded arrangements and game-specific recordings, even when they revisit recognizable themes.
| Release | What it represents | Documented details | Buying check |
|---|---|---|---|
| FINAL FANTASY VII ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK | The original game | 85 tracks, four CDs; Uematsu composition, arrangement and production credits | Do not substitute a remake listing |
| FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK | The music of Remake | Seven discs; includes Uematsu-composed “Hollow” | Not the original 1997-game album, Plus, or Special Edit |
| FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH Original Soundtrack | The music of Rebirth | Seven discs; includes “No Promises to Keep LOVELESS ver.” | Confirm that the LOVELESS version is the recording you want |
The publisher’s Remake track list is organized by disc and includes multiple versions of recurring themes. If you are searching for one cue, use the complete track list instead of assuming every version of a familiar title is present. The Rebirth listing likewise distinguishes “No Promises to Keep LOVELESS ver.” from another released version of the song.
Is Pixel Remaster music the same as the original soundtrack?
No. The Final Fantasy IV, V and VI PIXEL REMASTER Original Soundtrack CD releases present music remastered from the earlier digital Pixel Remaster soundtrack albums. They are tied to the named Pixel Remaster game, not automatically to every earlier physical soundtrack of that game.
| CD | Best match | Named tracks shown on the publisher listing | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| FINAL FANTASY IV PIXEL REMASTER Original Soundtrack CD | Pixel Remaster version of IV | Use the publisher’s game-specific track list | Physical CD listing describes remastered Pixel Remaster material |
| FINAL FANTASY V PIXEL REMASTER Original Soundtrack CD | Pixel Remaster version of V | “Battle at the Big Bridge”; “Dear Friends” | Do not infer that it is an original-era recording |
| FINAL FANTASY VI PIXEL REMASTER Original Soundtrack CD | Pixel Remaster version of VI | “Terra’s Theme”; “Celes’s Theme”; several language-specific opera entries | Check the exact vocal language or version when that matters |
The publisher lists approximately March 2026 as the CD release month for these physical editions. That is the product timing, not the original release date of the games. Imported physical copies may also contain packaging components in Japanese; do not assume every booklet is English.

Which album has Nobuo Uematsu music from different Final Fantasy games?
Choose Modulation – FINAL FANTASY Arrangement Album if you want Uematsu arranging material across games rather than one game’s complete soundtrack. Square Enix describes it this way: “Nobuo Uematsu himself arranges FINAL FANTASY masterpieces in ‘Modulation.’”
The album draws on themes including material from Final Fantasy V, VI, VII and X. That makes it useful for a composer-led listening session, but it is not a replacement for any game’s full original album. It is a vinyl record, so confirm that your turntable setup suits the purchase.
What does the included MP3 code mean?
The package includes an MP3 redemption code with stated redemption limits and possible expiration. Treat the code as a time-sensitive extra, not as a guaranteed permanent digital backup. Before buying a used copy, ask whether the code has already been redeemed and whether the redemption window still applies.
How do composer credits change the choice?
Composer-first shopping works when you follow the complete credit line. It is reliable for a Uematsu-centered sampler such as Modulation, but it can mislabel collaborative albums if you reduce a multi-composer credit to one name.
Nobuo Uematsu
The original Final Fantasy VII listing credits Uematsu with composing, arranging and producing. Modulation is also explicitly framed around his arrangements of themes from several games. Those are different roles: one release documents a game score, while the other documents new cross-game arrangements.

Masayoshi Soken
The Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack’s liner-note information identifies Masayoshi Soken. The BEFORE METEOR FINAL FANTASY XIV ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK, however, credits Uematsu, Soken and other composers. It is therefore inaccurate to describe Before Meteor as a solo Soken album.
Other composer searches
The documented releases here do not establish a specific recommended album for Masashi Hamauzu or Yoko Shimomura. If either name is your starting point, verify a publisher credit on the exact product rather than inferring authorship from a series association.
What are the Remake Plus and Special Edit editions?
They materially change the contents of a Final Fantasy VII Remake purchase. Use the standard seven-disc soundtrack for the main Remake score; choose an additional edition only when its extra material is your reason for buying.
Remake Original Soundtrack Plus
Plus concentrates on previously unreleased in-game background music, especially cutscene material. It is a supplement to the standard soundtrack, not a substitute for it. A listing that says “Plus” should not be treated as the complete standard package.

Does the format matter: CD, vinyl or Blu-ray?
Yes. Format is a practical buying decision, not just collector terminology.
| Format | Example | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| CD | Original VII, Remake, Rebirth, Pixel Remaster CDs | Disc count, region/import packaging and exact edition |
| Vinyl | Modulation | Turntable playback; whether the MP3 code remains redeemable |
| Blu-ray | Before Meteor | Compatible Blu-ray playback; do not assume it is an ordinary audio CD |
BEFORE METEOR FINAL FANTASY XIV ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK is one Blu-ray, not a conventional CD set. Its multi-composer credit and physical format make it a poor match for someone specifically seeking a Uematsu-only or Soken-only album.
Does the Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack include “Moongazing”?
No. The publisher’s listing explicitly states: “The theme song by Kenshi Yonezu, ‘Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing’ is not included.” The seven-disc FINAL FANTASY XVI ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK can still suit listeners focused on the game’s score and Soken’s documented involvement, but do not buy it expecting that theme song.

How can I verify a soundtrack listing before buying?
Use this checklist on the publisher page or a retailer’s matching product record.
- Match the full title. Look for “Original Soundtrack,” “Pixel Remaster,” “Plus,” “Special Edit,” or “Arrangement Album,” not merely “Final Fantasy.”
- Match the game numeral. IV, V and VI Pixel Remaster CDs are separate products. “Pixel Remaster” without the numeral is insufficient.
- Check the catalog number when available. The original VII listing is SQEX-10001-4; Remake is SQEX-10776-82; Rebirth is SQEX-11110-6; Modulation is SQEX-10955; Before Meteor is SQEX-20012.
- Count discs and identify format. Four CDs, seven discs, vinyl and one Blu-ray describe different packages.
- Read the track version. Check labels such as “LOVELESS ver.” and language-specific opera entries.
- Check omissions. For XVI, confirm that the missing “Moongazing” theme is acceptable.
- Check condition and extras for used copies. A used Modulation copy may have a redeemed MP3 code; limited-edition bonus discs may be missing.
- Recheck stock and packaging. Listings, prices, availability and code validity can change, and imported packaging may include Japanese-language components.

How these recommendations were selected
The starting points above are separated by game identity, recording type, credited composer(s), exact song version, edition status, physical format and disc count. They do not assume that a familiar melody means an identical recording, that a composer credit is exclusive, or that a publisher listing is currently in stock.

Can I play a Final Fantasy soundtrack Blu-ray in a normal CD player?
No. A Blu-ray release requires Blu-ray-compatible hardware; it is not interchangeable with an audio CD. The Before Meteor listing is specifically one Blu-ray, so check your equipment before ordering.
Is the MP3 download with Modulation guaranteed to work for a used copy?
No. The package’s code has stated redemption limits and possible expiration. A second-hand copy may have an already-redeemed code, so ask the seller about its status and rely on the vinyl itself as the guaranteed physical component.
Why do some Pixel Remaster listings show opera songs in different languages?
The FFVI Pixel Remaster listing displays several language-specific opera-track entries. If vocal language matters to you, compare the exact track names on the listing rather than assuming every pressing uses the same version.
Are soundtrack prices and availability stable?
No. Publisher pages can change stock status, pricing and edition details. Recheck the listing close to purchase, especially for the original VII album, the first-run Special Edit package and imported copies.
