No single Pokémon is objectively the most attractive. Attractiveness is a matter of taste, and the rankings you will find online measure something else: which Pokémon fans pick as a favorite, or which ones an official vote places highest in popularity. This article treats the question as a subjective one. It separates those popularity numbers from aesthetic judgment, sets out the criteria that make a design appealing, and offers a shortlist you can test against your own preferences.
Species designs, not human characters
The title can be read two ways. Here, “Pokémon” means the creature species and their designs. If you meant the human trainers, rivals, gym leaders or professors in the franchise, the criteria below still apply, but the candidates would be different. Everything that follows refers to Pokémon species.
What the popularity polls actually measure
Two official or semi-official rankings are often cited as proof of which Pokémon is “best-looking.” Neither asked that question.
The 2019 fan favorite survey
The favoritepokemon.org page for the mamamia1001 / r/pokemon survey, https://favoritepokemon.org/vote, reports that the 2019 survey drew 52,725 participants across the 809 Pokémon then available. Each respondent chose one favorite. The top three results were:

These figures have clear limits:
- The survey was opt-in. The results page itself warns that it was not representative of every Pokémon fan.
- The page notes that the original form’s long scrolling order may have affected later-generation Pokémon, so their totals may be understated.
- Respondents picked a favorite, not the most attractive design. A favorite can reflect nostalgia, a memorable game role or a favorite character, not visual appeal.
- The survey is from 2019 and covers the 809 species available at that time. Later Pokémon were not part of it.
The official Pokémon of the Year 2020 vote
The Pokémon Company’s official results for Pokémon of the Year 2020, at https://pokemon2020.pokemon.com/en-us/, show Lucario in second place. That is an official popularity result, not a survey of attractiveness, and it should be read as a measure of fan enthusiasm for the vote as held in 2020.
Community discussion
The Pokémon Forums thread “What’s the most lovable Pokémon design in your opinion?” at https://community.pokemon.com/en-us/discussion/22471/what-s-the-most-lovable-pokemon-design-in-your-opinion frames the question explicitly as personal opinion. That framing is the right one for “attractive,” too.

A subjective shortlist
The picks below are editorial opinion based on design criteria, not measured results. Each one is chosen for a different kind of appeal.
Gardevoir
The clearest case for elegance. Its tall, streamlined silhouette and white-and-green body make it read as graceful rather than merely cute. Its design also suits a viewer who likes a calm, composed look.

Espeon offers a slender, fox-like elegance with a forked tail and a refined purple palette. It is a strong pick for anyone who values restraint and poise over bold color.
Lucario
Lucario is the strongest case for a striking, dynamic look. Its blue-and-black build, alert posture and jackal-like outline give it an energetic presence. Its official second-place finish in the 2020 vote is popularity context, not evidence of attractiveness.

Gengar
Gengar’s appeal is playful menace. The grinning face, shadowy purple form and unsettling-but-fun attitude make it a standout for those who like designs with personality over polish. It also ranked second in the 2019 survey, as a favorite.
Charizard
Charizard represents dramatic design: wings, flame tail and a commanding stance. It topped the 2019 favorite survey with 1,107 selections, which reflects its popularity among respondents rather than a verdict on how it looks.

If you want to build your own answer instead of accepting a shortlist, use these checks:
- Choose a style. Decide whether you value cute, elegant, striking or dramatic designs. A single winner is less useful than a winner within a style.
- Decide what you are looking at. Official artwork, in-game models and animated appearances can change how a design reads.
- Separate memory from design. Ask whether you like how a Pokémon looks or whether you associate it with a favorite game or episode.
- Treat popularity as a separate question. A widely picked favorite is not automatically the most attractive design.
- Name your top three and say why. A short, reasoned list is more persuasive than a single pick.
