Your Synth Riders score reaches an online leaderboard only when the run is played while connected to the game’s services. Once online, the result you see depends on two separate choices: the leaderboard scope (Global, Self or Friends) and the modifier filter (Combined or Modified). Start with Self + Combined to find your highest accepted score for a song, difficulty and mode. Use Self + Modified only when you deliberately want to compare runs made with exactly the same modifiers, including No Fail.
Why is my Synth Riders score not showing on the leaderboard?
The most common explanations are that the run was offline, the leaderboard is filtered differently from the run, or the game could not complete its connection or authentication exchange. A local high-score entry is not proof that the server accepted the score: the local scoreboard and online views use different records.

Online results are identified by the selected song, difficulty, mode and map identity. The scope and modifier controls then decide which of those eligible results are displayed. Checking those dimensions in order is faster than replaying the song or assuming a score was deleted.
Do offline Synth Riders scores submit later?
No. Offline play does not save scores for online submission, and an offline result is not uploaded automatically when the connection returns. The official update of 29 July 2020 states: “In this mode, scores will not be saved or submitted.” Treat an offline run as a local play result only and make a new online run if you want a server leaderboard entry.

Before starting a score attempt, confirm that the game is connected and authenticated. A connection that drops during or immediately after the song can leave a local result visible while the online record never arrives.
Which leaderboard scope should I select?
The scope controls whose records are eligible to appear; it does not change the score or submit a different version of your run. The developer’s 11 September 2023 explanation defines the three main views as follows:
Recommended Free Tools
| Scope | What it displays | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Global | All scores in the leaderboard. | You want to see the worldwide ranking for the selected song, difficulty and mode. |
| Self | Your scores only. | You are checking whether your own online result was accepted or finding your personal best. |
| Friends | Scores from platform friends, including your own. | You are comparing with friends without loading the full global list. |
If Self reports “no score set,” first verify that the song, difficulty and mode match the run. Then check the modifier filter. A score can exist online but be hidden by a condition-specific view.
What is the difference between Combined and Modified?
Combined ignores modifier differences and returns the highest score for the selected song, difficulty and mode. Modified limits the list to scores made with the modifiers currently selected. The official update describes this directly: “Combined view shows all scores regardless of modifiers used,” while “Modified view shows only those scores set using the modifiers which you have selected.”
| Filter | Condition applied | Best use | Typical misunderstanding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combined | Any modifier combination is eligible. | Finding your best online score, regardless of how that run was configured. | Assuming the displayed score must have used the modifiers currently shown. |
| Modified | The selected modifier set must match the submitted run. | Comparing identical conditions with another player or with your own prior attempt. | Thinking a score is missing when one modifier, such as No Fail, is still selected. |
For a personal-best check, choose Self + Combined. For a controlled comparison, choose Self + Modified or the appropriate Global/Friends scope and reproduce every modifier selection exactly.

Does No Fail submit to the leaderboard?
Yes, a run using No Fail can produce an online score, but the modifier changes how it is categorized and can reduce the result when it prevents a failed song from ending normally. In a developer example, a failed song completed with No Fail received a 50% score penalty (Synth Riders developer Wirrel, 2023).
No Fail is also part of the exact modifier condition used by the Modified filter. If your run was made without No Fail but the menu currently has No Fail selected, that run may not appear in Modified. Turn No Fail off to match the run, or switch to Combined to include it regardless of modifiers.
Can every modifier combination have its own record?
According to the developer, it is possible to set a score for every possible combination of modifiers. Those condition-specific records are exposed through the Modifiers filter. Consequently, two runs of the same song and difficulty can both be valid online entries while appearing in different Modified views.
This explains why changing one option can make a leaderboard look empty without removing a score. The filter has changed the comparison set; it has not necessarily changed the stored result.
Why is my local high score higher than my global score?
The local scoreboard stores your highest score overall for the relevant play, while online leaderboards show the score the server accepted under a particular song, difficulty, mode, map and modifier context. A local entry can therefore be higher if it was earned offline, if submission failed, or if you are viewing an online list that excludes its modifier combination.

Use this comparison rather than treating the two numbers as duplicates:
| Record | What it represents | Why it can differ |
|---|---|---|
| Local scoreboard | Your highest locally retained result. | It may include an offline attempt or a result that never completed online submission. |
| Online Self + Combined | Your highest server-accepted result for the selected song, difficulty and mode, regardless of modifiers. | It excludes runs the service never received and depends on the exact song, mode, difficulty and map identity. |
| Online Self + Modified | Your server-accepted result matching the currently selected modifier set. | A different modifier combination, including No Fail, is intentionally hidden. |
How do custom maps affect leaderboard visibility?
Leaderboards are tied to a song’s map identity, not merely to the song title shown in a menu. If a custom map is changed, the game can create a new leaderboard for that map. A score may therefore belong to an earlier map identity and not appear beside the revised chart.
When investigating a custom-song discrepancy, confirm that the map itself has not been updated or replaced. Compare the map version or identity before comparing scores, modifiers or player scope.
What should I check, step by step, when a score is missing?
Follow this order so that each check eliminates a different cause. Do not change several variables at once; otherwise you will not know which condition solved the discrepancy.

- Confirm the run was online. If the game was in offline mode, the score was not saved or submitted for online leaderboards and will not be uploaded later.
- Match the song and chart. Select the same song, difficulty and mode used for the run. For a custom song, verify the map identity or version as well.
- Open Self + Combined. This is the broadest personal check. It should show your highest accepted score for that song, difficulty and mode without excluding modifier combinations.
- Check the exact modifier set. If you are trying to reproduce a condition-specific result, switch to Modified and select every modifier used in the run. Include No Fail; leaving it on or off incorrectly is enough to hide an otherwise valid score.
- Try the intended scope. Use Global for all players, Friends for platform friends plus you, or Self for only your records. A score cannot appear in a friend comparison if the account relationship is not part of the platform’s friend list.
- Separate local from server results. If the local scoreboard contains the run but Self + Combined does not, treat it as a submission or identity problem rather than a ranking problem.
- Check connection and authentication. A temporary disconnect or expired authentication can stop leaderboard updates even when the song finishes normally.
- Inspect the game’s error log. The developer says failed communications are retried three times before the game gives up. An error entry around the end of the song can explain why a local result has no online counterpart.
- Retry with a new online run. Once connectivity and authentication are healthy, make another run and check Self + Combined first. This tests current submission without relying on a result that may have failed during an earlier outage.
What connection or authentication problems prevent submission?
The developer reports that connection resets can prevent a score from reaching the leaderboard and that the game retries communication three times before abandoning the update. Authentication problems can also block leaderboard changes. The exact recovery steps can vary by platform and game build, so the reliable actions are to restore a stable connection, resolve the account sign-in state, restart the game if necessary, and then verify with Self + Combined.

There is no platform-independent fix established for every current leaderboard outage. If the service itself is unavailable, changing Combined, Modified or scope will not repair submission; those controls only change what an already available leaderboard query displays.
How should I interpret common leaderboard symptoms?
| Symptom | Most likely explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| “Self” says no score set, but you remember a good run. | The run was offline, the query uses the wrong song/difficulty/mode, or Modified excludes its modifiers. | Verify the chart, then use Self + Combined while online. |
| Combined shows a score but Modified is empty. | The selected modifiers do not exactly match any submitted run. | Match every modifier, especially No Fail, or remain on Combined. |
| Local score is higher than the online personal best. | The local result may be offline, failed submission, or tied to another map identity. | Check online state, error logs and custom-map identity. |
| A friend’s score is missing. | You are viewing Self, the friend is not in the platform friend list, or the song/chart conditions differ. | Use Friends and match song, difficulty, mode and map. |
| A score disappeared after a custom map update. | The edited map created a new leaderboard identity. | Open the original map identity to find the earlier record. |
| A new online score never appears anywhere. | Connection reset or authentication failure prevented submission after retries. | Check connectivity, sign-in status and the error log, then retry online. |
Which settings should I use for a fair comparison?
Decide first what you are trying to learn. For a personal-best hunt, Self + Combined answers whether any accepted run is better. For a competitive comparison, select the same song, difficulty, mode, map and modifier set for every player, then use Modified so the leaderboard does not mix conditions.
Document No Fail explicitly in shared challenges. A run made with No Fail is not equivalent to one made without it, and the 50% penalty example shows that the option can materially change the score. If the goal is simply to see all of your accepted results, do not narrow the query prematurely with Modified.

The official 29 July 2020 update establishes the online/offline submission rule and the meanings of Combined and Modified. The developer’s 11 September 2023 explanation establishes Global, Self and Friends scopes and confirms that modifier combinations can each hold a score. The developer’s later examples and troubleshooting guidance establish the No Fail penalty example, local-versus-online distinction, connection retries and map-identity behavior.
Those statements explain how to diagnose a missing result, but they do not guarantee identical menus or service behavior on every current platform build. If a newer version changes labels or leaderboard availability, apply the same logic—online state, scope, modifier match, chart identity and server acceptance—while following the labels shown in your build.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert a local high score into an online score without replaying?
No supported process is described for importing a local result after the fact. If the original attempt was offline or its submission failed, the practical way to obtain an online entry is to replay while connected and authenticated.
Does changing from Global to Self alter my ranking position?
No. Scope changes the set of rows displayed, not the underlying score or its rank among the records that remain eligible. A personal view can therefore look very different from Global even though your submitted result is unchanged.
Why can two players with the same song and difficulty see different Modified lists?
Modified is tied to the exact modifier selection, so identical chart settings are not enough. One player may have No Fail or another option enabled while the other does not, placing their scores in separate condition-specific lists.
What should I record when reporting a leaderboard bug?
Note the platform, game build, song and map identity, difficulty, mode, online status, selected scope, every modifier, and whether the score appears locally. Include the approximate time and any connection or authentication error so the failure can be distinguished from a filter mismatch.
