Buy the Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest if you want the clearest first purchase for Warcraft’s classic real-time-strategy story. It combines remastered versions of Warcraft I and Warcraft II, Warcraft III: Reforged, and the original Warcraft I and Warcraft II releases in one package. Choose Warcraft III: Reforged instead if you want one focused RTS. Choose World of Warcraft access if your priority is the persistent online game, and choose the Warcraft Forever Collection if you specifically want the announced World of Warcraft: Forever upgrade benefits together with Warcraft III content.
Quick answer: which Warcraft edition fits you?
There is no single best Warcraft purchase for every newcomer because the current lineup covers two very different formats. The remastered Warcraft I–III games are campaign-driven real-time-strategy games that can also be played in multiplayer. World of Warcraft is a persistent massively multiplayer online game with a subscription or Game Time access model. Decide which of those experiences you want before comparing editions.

| If you want… | Buy first | Why | Payment model |
|---|---|---|---|
| The complete classic RTS path | Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest | Includes Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II: Remastered, Warcraft III: Reforged, plus the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition | One-time Battle.net purchase |
| One modernized RTS | Warcraft III: Reforged | Focused entry point; Blizzard says its 2.0 patch added updated Classic HD assets and improved Reforged environment visuals | One-time Battle.net purchase |
| The online MMO | World of Warcraft access | World of Warcraft: Forever access is included with a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time | Recurring subscription or Game Time |
| WoW: Forever benefits plus Warcraft III content | Warcraft Forever Collection | Includes the Skyborne Epic Pack, Warcraft III: Reforged, and the Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign | Collection purchase, then subscription or additional Game Time after included time |
| A physical keepsake | Collector’s Edition | Physical collector set with a digital code that unlocks the Warcraft Forever Collection | Physical edition; WoW access still follows the included Game Time and subscription rules |
The Battle Chest is the safest recommendation for someone asking, “Which Warcraft game should I play first?” It lets you follow the strategy series from its earliest remastered entry through Warcraft III without buying three separate strategy products. Reforged is the better value in scope only when you already know you want one game rather than the whole sequence. The MMO editions make sense only if you want an ongoing online world instead of a self-contained RTS campaign.

Blizzard announced fully remastered versions of Warcraft I and Warcraft II during its Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct. - Warcraft I: Remastered
- Warcraft II: Remastered
- Warcraft III: Reforged
- Warcraft: Orcs & Humans
- Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition
This is more than a modernized trilogy. The original releases remain part of the package, giving you a way to see the older presentations alongside the remastered editions. That matters if you are interested in Warcraft’s development history or want the original versions available rather than having them replaced entirely.
Why the Battle Chest is the best story-first starting point
Starting with Warcraft I establishes the earliest strategic and narrative foundation, Warcraft II continues that sequence, and Warcraft III completes the classic RTS arc before you decide whether to move into the MMO. You can also begin with Warcraft III if older interfaces or earlier campaigns are not appealing, but doing so skips the first two chapters rather than providing the broadest overview.
What existing owners should know
Blizzard said existing owners of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition, or Warcraft III: Reforged could receive a bundle discount. The announcement does not state a universal discount amount, so check the Battle.net account and purchase screen associated with the qualifying ownership before paying for the full bundle.
When Warcraft III: Reforged alone is the right buy
Choose Warcraft III: Reforged when you want one concentrated RTS rather than a historical collection. It is the simplest option for a player who wants to start with Warcraft III’s place in the classic strategy line without purchasing the earlier games at the same time.
Blizzard’s Battle.net description says Reforged received a 2.0 patch with updated Classic HD assets and improved Reforged environment visuals. That makes the current product different from its original launch presentation, but it does not turn it into the same package as the Battle Chest: the Battle Chest adds both earlier remasters and the original Warcraft I and II releases.
Pick Reforged alone if these statements describe you
- You want one RTS installation and one set of campaigns to learn.
- You are primarily interested in Warcraft III rather than the series’ earliest history.
- You already own one or more earlier Warcraft games and do not need duplicate access.
- You want to avoid paying for an MMO subscription or Game Time.
Do not choose Reforged alone when you want the full sequence
Buying Reforged by itself means you will not receive Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II: Remastered, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, or Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition as part of that purchase. If you expect to play all three RTS eras, compare the standalone purchase with the Battle Chest before checking out, especially if your account may qualify for a bundle discount.

Battle Chest versus Reforged: the practical comparison
| Factor | Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest | Warcraft III: Reforged alone |
|---|---|---|
| Games included | Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II: Remastered, Warcraft III: Reforged, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition | Warcraft III: Reforged |
| Best for | Newcomers who want the complete classic RTS overview | Players who want one focused Warcraft RTS |
| Story route | Begins with Warcraft I and continues through Warcraft III | Starts at Warcraft III |
| Original versions | Includes the original Warcraft I and Warcraft II releases | Not included as part of the standalone purchase |
| Visual update noted by Blizzard | Warcraft I and II are fully remastered; Warcraft III is the Reforged edition with its 2.0 improvements | 2.0 update includes updated Classic HD assets and improved Reforged environment visuals |
| Purchase style | One-time Battle.net bundle | One-time Battle.net purchase |
| Subscription required | No MMO subscription is needed for the RTS package | No MMO subscription is needed for Reforged itself |
Neither choice is a World of Warcraft license. If your goal is World of Warcraft: Forever, you need World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time, or a qualifying Forever bundle that supplies an initial period of Game Time.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When World of Warcraft access is the better first purchase
Choose World of Warcraft access when you want an MMO rather than a sequence of self-contained RTS campaigns. Blizzard states that World of Warcraft: Forever access is included with a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. That access requirement is separate from owning the Battle Chest or Reforged.
World of Warcraft: Forever is announced to launch globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. The listed beta window runs from September 17 through October 21, 2026 PST. Those dates matter if you are deciding whether to purchase an upgrade pack for early testing access or simply wait for launch access through your normal subscription or Game Time.
Subscription and Game Time are not the same as a one-time RTS purchase
- A Battle Chest or Reforged purchase is a one-time acquisition of the listed strategy content.
- World of Warcraft access depends on an active subscription or purchased Game Time.
- Included Game Time in an upgrade pack is temporary; continued play after it expires requires a subscription or additional Game Time.
Blizzard’s announcement does not provide a single price figure in the edition details summarized here. Check the current Battle.net checkout for the region, currency, taxes, and product availability attached to your account.
Understanding the WoW: Forever upgrade choices
Blizzard lists three optional choices connected with WoW: Forever: the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack, and the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection. The key difference for a Warcraft buyer is whether you want only upgrade benefits or a package that also adds Warcraft III content.

Skyborne Heroic Pack
The Skyborne Heroic Pack is one of Blizzard’s listed upgrade options. The supplied announcement details do not enumerate the individual cosmetic or account benefits of this pack, so do not assume that it includes Warcraft III: Reforged or the Forsaken Kingdom campaign. Those inclusions are specifically stated for the Warcraft Forever Collection.

Skyborne Epic Pack
The Skyborne Epic Pack is another upgrade option and includes 30 days of World of Warcraft Game Time starting November 4, 2026. The 30-day allowance is not permanent access; after it ends, continued gameplay requires a subscription or additional Game Time. Blizzard also says beta access is included with the Skyborne Epic Pack during the announced September 17–October 21, 2026 PST beta period.
Warcraft Forever Collection
The Warcraft Forever Collection is the crossover choice for readers who want WoW: Forever benefits and Warcraft III in the same purchase. Blizzard lists these contents:
- Skyborne Epic Pack
- Warcraft III: Reforged
- The Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign
- 30 days of World of Warcraft Game Time beginning November 4, 2026
- Beta access during the announced beta period
Blizzard says the Collection is available through January 11, 2027. That end date makes it a time-limited purchase opportunity rather than a permanently listed edition. After the included 30 days, WoW: Forever play still requires a subscription or additional Game Time.

Which Forever option should an MMO newcomer choose?
| Your priority | Most suitable option | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| WoW upgrade benefits without Warcraft III stated as part of the package | Skyborne Heroic Pack | It is one of Blizzard’s listed upgrade choices, but the supplied details do not specify Warcraft III content |
| Upgrade benefits, beta access, and one month of Game Time | Skyborne Epic Pack | Includes 30 days of Game Time starting November 4, 2026, plus beta access |
| WoW benefits and Warcraft III content together | Warcraft Forever Collection | Adds Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign to the Skyborne Epic Pack contents |
| A physical collectible alongside the digital bundle | Collector’s Edition | Its digital code unlocks the Warcraft Forever Collection |
Is there a physical Warcraft Collector’s Edition?
Yes. Blizzard describes the Collector’s Edition as a physical keepsake set. Its included digital code unlocks the Warcraft Forever Collection, including the WoW: Forever Skyborne Epic Pack, Warcraft III: Reforged, and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign.
This edition is aimed at collectors rather than someone seeking the cheapest route into Warcraft. The physical set does not remove the normal access rule for World of Warcraft: the Collection includes 30 days of Game Time, and play after that period requires a subscription or additional Game Time. Availability and retailer terms should be verified at the time you order because the announcement identifies the contents and digital entitlement but does not establish a permanent retail supply.
Collector’s Edition checklist
- Confirm that the listing is the physical Collector’s Edition, not only a digital upgrade.
- Verify that the digital code unlocks the Warcraft Forever Collection on your Battle.net account region.
- Check when the 30 included days of Game Time begin: Blizzard states November 4, 2026 for the Collection.
- Remember that the physical keepsakes do not provide unlimited MMO access after the included Game Time ends.
A sensible Warcraft story path for first-time players
If your aim is to understand the classic strategy foundation before entering the MMO, use the Battle Chest in release order:

- Start with Warcraft I: Remastered.
- Continue with Warcraft II: Remastered.
- Play Warcraft III: Reforged.
- Use the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition when you want to compare the earlier releases with their remasters.
- Move to World of Warcraft only if you want a persistent online game and are prepared for subscription or Game Time access.
You do not have to follow that order mechanically. Starting with Reforged is reasonable if you want a modern single-game introduction, while starting with World of Warcraft is reasonable if your friends or preferred genre are already centered on the MMO. The order above is simply the most complete route through the classic RTS material included in the Battle Chest.
Buying decision by player type
The Warcraft-history newcomer
Buy the Battle Chest. It is the only listed purchase that combines both remastered early games, Warcraft III: Reforged, and the original Warcraft I and II versions. You get the widest context without committing to an MMO subscription.
The player who wants one campaign-focused RTS
Buy Warcraft III: Reforged alone. It keeps the decision narrow and avoids paying for earlier games you may never play. Its 2.0 patch improvements are part of the current Reforged presentation described by Blizzard.
The MMO-first player
Use World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time for access. If you also want the announced Forever upgrade benefits, compare the Skyborne packs. The Epic Pack adds 30 days of Game Time from launch and beta access; the Collection adds Warcraft III and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign.
The player who wants both RTS and MMO content
Choose the Warcraft Forever Collection while it is available, provided you specifically want WoW: Forever and Warcraft III together. It is not a replacement for the Battle Chest: the Collection lists Warcraft III: Reforged but does not list Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II: Remastered, or the original Warcraft I and II releases.
Recommended Free Tools
The physical collector
Choose the Collector’s Edition if the physical keepsake set is part of the appeal. Treat its digital code as access to the Warcraft Forever Collection, not as a lifetime MMO subscription.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying Reforged when you wanted the whole trilogy
Check the product contents before checkout. Reforged alone is one game; the Battle Chest is the package that adds Warcraft I and II remasters and the original versions.
Assuming a Battle Chest purchase unlocks World of Warcraft
The RTS bundle and WoW access use different products and payment models. For WoW: Forever, maintain a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time, or use the included 30-day period from an eligible Forever package.
Assuming the 30-day allowance is recurring
The 30 days included with the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection begin November 4, 2026. They are an included period, not an ongoing monthly entitlement.
Missing the Collection’s availability deadline
Blizzard lists January 11, 2027 as the end of the Warcraft Forever Collection’s availability. If you want its combination of WoW benefits and Warcraft III content, confirm that it is still offered before purchasing.
Expecting every Forever pack to include Warcraft III
The Warcraft III: Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom inclusions are explicitly listed for the Warcraft Forever Collection. They should not be inferred for the Skyborne Heroic Pack or Skyborne Epic Pack.
Buying a physical edition without checking the digital entitlement
The Collector’s Edition’s digital code unlocks the Warcraft Forever Collection. Confirm the code’s region and redemption conditions, then plan for a subscription or additional Game Time after the included 30 days.
Final recommendation
For most people asking which Warcraft game to buy first, start with the Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest. It is the broadest classic-RTS introduction and includes both remastered and original versions of Warcraft I and II alongside Warcraft III: Reforged. Choose Warcraft III: Reforged when you want one RTS, and choose World of Warcraft access or a Forever upgrade only when the MMO is the experience you actually want. The Warcraft Forever Collection is the crossover option, while the Collector’s Edition is for people who also value a physical keepsake.
