Mick Gordon is the principal composer of DOOM (2016)’s original soundtrack. Bethesda’s official album description also credits id Software’s Chris Hite with one new track and Chad Mossholder with a new remix. You can hear the soundtrack through Bethesda’s official YouTube upload or music-service listings on Apple Music and Spotify; Steam sells a downloadable soundtrack add-on. The catalog shown by each service can vary by country and can change over time.
The short answer
For the 2016 game, the main composing credit belongs to Australian musician Mick Gordon. Bethesda Softworks identifies Gordon as the game’s composer in its contemporary interview and in the publisher’s soundtrack materials. The released album is not presented as a Gordon-only collection, however: Bethesda says it contains one new track by id Software’s Chris Hite, a new remix by id Software’s Chad Mossholder, and other rearranged or newly composed material.

The practical listening choices fall into four different formats. Bethesda hosts an official soundtrack video on YouTube; Apple Music and Spotify carry album listings intended for streaming; and Steam offers the soundtrack as downloadable additional content. Those listings establish where the album was published or offered, not a permanent promise that every account, territory, or subscription can play it.

Who wrote the music?
Mick Gordon is the principal composer
Gordon is the central creative and composing name attached to DOOM (2016). Bethesda’s “Inside the DOOM Score – Mick Gordon Interview,” published on September 28, 2016, discusses his work on the game’s score, while Bethesda’s official soundtrack video describes the album as created by Gordon. If you are looking for the person most responsible for the sound of the 2016 reboot, the answer is Mick Gordon.

His score is built for a game rather than a conventional film cue sheet. In play, music can intensify as combat escalates, drop back while you explore, and return with different layers or transitions. The album therefore presents music associated with the game in a listening sequence, while the interactive score heard during a particular playthrough can behave differently from that sequence.
Chris Hite and Chad Mossholder also have named credits
Bethesda’s September 28, 2016 description makes two additional credits specific. Chris Hite, an id Software staff member, supplied one new track. Chad Mossholder, also at id Software, supplied a new remix. The same description refers to completely rearranged and composed tracks from the game and “a few other surprises for the fans.”
That wording matters because it distinguishes the principal composer from every contribution on the album. Calling Gordon the composer is accurate as the lead credit; saying that he alone composed every released track would erase the Hite and Mossholder contributions identified by the publisher.

What is included in the released album?
Bethesda’s 2016 interview describes the album as 31 tracks running 128 minutes. Apple Music’s listing independently displays 31 songs and a total runtime of 2 hours 8 minutes, which is the same duration expressed in hours and minutes. The release is dated September 28, 2016 in Bethesda’s publication materials and in the Apple Music listing.
The album should be understood as a soundtrack release, not a promise that it reproduces every interactive state of the game as a separate, neatly labeled song. Bethesda characterizes the material as rearranged and composed tracks from the game, supplemented by the new Hite track and Mossholder remix. A track order on a service is therefore an album presentation of the score rather than a map of every combat layer, transition, or exploration variation that can occur in play.
Where can you listen to the DOOM (2016) soundtrack?
| Route | Format | What the listing establishes | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bethesda’s official YouTube upload | Publisher-hosted video | Bethesda published an official DOOM Original Game Soundtrack video on September 28, 2016. Its description identifies the album and points listeners toward music services. | Playback and availability can depend on YouTube’s regional rights and the video’s current status. |
| Apple Music | Streaming album listing | The listing is titled DOOM (Original Game Soundtrack), credits Mick Gordon, shows 31 songs, and reports a 2-hour-8-minute runtime. | A subscription, purchase options, and regional catalog access depend on Apple Music’s terms and your country. |
| Spotify | Streaming album listing | Spotify lists DOOM (Original Game Soundtrack) – Mick Gordon as an album. | The listing itself does not establish playback in every territory; availability and account requirements can differ. |
| Steam | Downloadable additional content | Steam offers DOOM Soundtrack as downloadable soundtrack content, credits Mick Gordon, and shows 31 tracks. | Steam explicitly says the soundtrack does not include the base game. It is a separate download rather than game ownership. |
Use YouTube when you want the publisher’s presentation
Bethesda’s official upload is the simplest no-install route to check first. Open the publisher’s DOOM – Original Game Soundtrack – Mick Gordon & id Software video and use its chapter markers to move through the presentation. Bethesda says the video contains four chapters and links to the music-service options in its description.

Use Apple Music or Spotify for album-style streaming
Search the exact album wording rather than a general query for “DOOM music,” which can return music from other games in the series, fan uploads, playlists, or unrelated artists. On Apple Music, look for DOOM (Original Game Soundtrack) by Mick Gordon and verify the 31-song listing. On Spotify, look for the album credited to Mick Gordon and check that its artwork and track count correspond to the 2016 release.
A listing is not the same as universal access. Rights can be negotiated by territory, and services can remove, replace, or relabel catalog items. If a search result is missing, try the publisher’s official YouTube upload or the Steam download instead of assuming that the album never existed.

Use Steam when you want files to download
Steam labels its offering DOOM Soundtrack and describes it as downloadable additional content. The page credits Mick Gordon and lists 31 tracks. This route is useful if your goal is to keep soundtrack files associated with your Steam library rather than rely on an internet stream.
Read the product description carefully before buying: the soundtrack is separate from the base game and does not include a copy of DOOM. Owning the soundtrack add-on therefore does not grant the game itself. Steam’s page is also the relevant place to check the current regional price, file-delivery details, and whether the item can be purchased in your account’s country; those details are not established by the historical release information alone.
Which listening route should you choose?
- For the most direct official source: start with Bethesda’s YouTube upload.
- For streaming on a phone or music app: check Apple Music or Spotify and confirm that the album is the 2016, 31-song release.
- For a downloadable soundtrack product: choose Steam, remembering that it is additional content and not the base game.
- For checking credits and context: Bethesda’s soundtrack description and its Mick Gordon interview provide the clearest publisher-authored information.
None of these choices should be described as a guaranteed worldwide option. The documented evidence shows current listings found on those services, while playback rights, subscription rules, prices, and catalog status can change.

How to find the correct 2016 release
- Include the year or the subtitle in your search. Use “DOOM (Original Game Soundtrack)” or “DOOM 2016 soundtrack,” not just “DOOM soundtrack.” This filters out music from later games and unofficial uploads.
- Check the primary artist and contributors. Mick Gordon should be the principal album credit. Bethesda’s description should be consistent with the additional Chris Hite track and Chad Mossholder remix.
- Verify the scale. The album should show 31 tracks and a total duration of about 128 minutes, also displayed by Apple Music as 2 hours 8 minutes.
- Identify the format before selecting play or purchase. YouTube is a video, Apple Music and Spotify are streaming listings, and Steam is a downloadable add-on.
- Check your territory and account status. If a listing is visible but tracks cannot play, the issue may be regional rights, subscription requirements, or a catalog change rather than a mistaken album title.
Why credits and formats are easy to confuse
The word “soundtrack” can refer to several different things in discussions of DOOM. It might mean the music that reacts to gameplay, the 2016 commercial album, a video upload of that album, or downloadable files sold separately from the game. These are related but not interchangeable.
The principal-composer question has a similar distinction. Gordon is the lead composer named by Bethesda, but the publisher’s own album description assigns specific additional work to Hite and Mossholder. A precise answer should preserve both facts: Gordon is the principal composer, and the album includes named contributions from other id Software personnel.
Finally, the 2016 album should not be merged with music from other DOOM releases. Search results that omit the year can combine games, remixes, playlists, and fan-made arrangements. The title, credited artist, publication date, and 31-track count are the quickest checks for the release discussed here.
What the published evidence does—and does not—tell you
Bethesda’s materials establish the creative credits, the four-chapter official video, and the album’s published size. Apple Music corroborates the 31-song, 2-hour-8-minute presentation. Spotify and Steam establish additional ways the album is listed, with Steam specifically identifying a downloadable product that excludes the base game.
Those listings do not establish a permanent physical edition, a universal Amazon listing, identical audio formats across services, or uninterrupted playback in every country. They also do not provide a single worldwide price. Treat each service as a route to check in your own region, and rely on the service’s current page for purchase, subscription, and download conditions.
