Matt Mercer, credited on the Guild Wars 2 Wiki as Matthew Mercer, voices the male norn player character (the Commander, known in Secrets of the Obscure as the Wayfinder), Canach, Ake the Elder, Arkk, Harald the Builder, and additional voices. These are the English-language cast credits.
The roles Mercer is credited with
- Male norn player character: Mercer is credited as the Norn Male voice for the player character. Secrets of the Obscure lists him in the Wayfinder/Commander cast.
- Canach: Credited from 2021 onward. The End of Dragons credits list him as “Norn Male/Canach.”
- Ake the Elder: Listed on the actor’s Guild Wars 2 Wiki page.
- Arkk: Listed on the same page.
- Harald the Builder: Listed on the same page.
- Additional voices: The wiki page also lists unnamed additional voice work.
How the expansion credits line up
The base-game-era roles on the actor page are the ones most players will recognise from story content. The expansion credits add more specificity. End of Dragons assigns Mercer the “Norn Male/Canach” pairing, which confirms that his Canach credit is tied to that expansion. Secrets of the Obscure assigns him the Norn male voice for the Wayfinder/Commander, which is the same player-character role described above under a different in-game title.
Language versions
The Guild Wars 2 Wiki’s voice-actor page notes that the same character can be voiced by different actors in different language versions. Mercer’s credits therefore apply to the English-language release only. If you are playing a localised version, check that version’s cast list, because the voice for Canach, Arkk, or the player character may differ.

The roles above come from Guild Wars 2 Wiki pages that compile cast credits, not from a direct ArenaNet cast announcement. Treat the list as wiki-sourced credit information rather than an official statement from the developer.
