Riot Games announced on May 11, 2023, that then-president A. Dylan Jadeja would succeed Nicolo Laurent as CEO. Jadeja took the role in July 2023, and Riot said the transition was complete on September 22, 2023. The initial announcement had forecast a handoff by the end of 2023.
When did Dylan Jadeja become Riot Games CEO?
The succession unfolded in stages, so the announcement, the start of Jadeja’s tenure and the end of the handoff period are different dates:
- May 11, 2023: Riot announced Jadeja’s appointment and said it expected the transition to be completed by the end of the year. Riot’s announcement
- July 2023: Jadeja officially stepped into the CEO role, according to Riot’s current biography.
- September 22, 2023: Riot said the transition period was complete. Its update described the period as four months of close work between Laurent and Jadeja. Riot’s transition update
Thus, the planned year-end completion was an estimate, not the actual start date: Jadeja took over in July, with the transition formally declared complete in September.
Why did Nicolo Laurent step down?
In the May 2023 announcement, Laurent said he planned to leave the CEO role to focus on his family. He also said he intended to remain at Riot as an advisor. Riot’s September update confirmed that the transition was complete, but did not specify the duration or scope of Laurent’s advisory work.

What did Dylan Jadeja do before becoming CEO?
Jadeja had held senior positions at Riot for more than a decade before taking the top role. Riot’s announcement and current biography give this progression:
- 2011: Joined Riot as chief financial officer.
- 2014: Added chief operating officer responsibilities.
- 2017: Became president.
- 2022: Began overseeing enterprise operations.
- July 2023: Stepped into the CEO role.
Riot’s biography says that before joining the games company, Jadeja worked at Goldman Sachs and Kearney. It also says he studied at the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business and Harvard Business School. These career details are from Riot’s own account. How did Riot explain its choice?
Riot presented the appointment as the outcome of a succession process that had lasted about three years. Laurent said the company considered candidates from both inside and outside Riot, and that he, the Board, advisors, founders and an executive search firm all ranked Jadeja at the top of their lists.
