The enemy in Subway Surfers is the grumpy Inspector, sometimes called the Guard, and his dog. Both names describe the same pursuer in the game’s chase premise. The dog runs with him, and the official descriptions do not give the dog a name.
Who is chasing the surfers
The game’s official Google Play listing sets up the premise in one sentence: “Help Jake, Tricky & Fresh escape from the grumpy Inspector and his dog.” The same listing, in a second version of its wording, says: “Help Jake, Tricky & Fresh escape from the grumpy Guard and his dog.” Source: SYBO Games via Google Play’s Subway Surfers listing, which was last updated on September 7, 2026.
Miniclip’s game page for Subway Surfers uses the same framing, describing Jake, Tricky, Fresh, and Yutani escaping from the grumpy Inspector and his dog. Source: Miniclip’s Subway Surfers page.
Inspector or Guard: one character, two labels
Because the official copy uses both “Inspector” and “Guard,” readers sometimes wonder whether these are two different characters. The published descriptions do not support that reading. Each one describes a single human pursuer who is chasing the surfers, and the wording simply varies between listings and versions of the copy. For practical purposes, you can treat the Inspector and the Guard as the same character.

The dog
The pursuer’s dog travels with him in both sets of official descriptions. The listing mentions the dog only as part of the chase, not as a separate named character, and the official pages reviewed do not identify it by name. If you see a name for the dog elsewhere, it is not coming from the publisher’s own descriptions.
The surfers he is chasing
- Jake, Tricky, and Fresh are named as the surfers fleeing the Inspector in the Google Play listing.
- Yutani is named as an additional surfer in Miniclip’s description.
What the sources do not cover
The official descriptions do not explain the Inspector’s motive, history, or backstory. They also do not describe any other enemies or pursuers. Fan theories and lore from unofficial pages go beyond what the publisher has stated, so the answer here sticks to the chase premise that the official listings describe.

- Crafted with: Supersoft Velboa
- Dimensions: 33cm in length
The SYBO Games help page, What is Subway Surfers?, describes the game as free-to-play with optional purchases. That detail is context only and does not bear on who the enemy is.
In short, the enemy is the grumpy Inspector (also called the Guard) and his dog, and the surfers he chases are Jake, Tricky, Fresh, and, in Miniclip’s listing, Yutani.
