Spoilers for the Lion’s Den quest: Corporal Stephen Crow is the culprit, according to the Chertan wiki and most walkthroughs. The poison involved is called The Kiss of Death. At the trial, guides recommend accusing Crow rather than Lord Grozav.
Who killed Chertan?
Corporal Stephen Crow, a spy already in the camp, is identified as Chertan’s killer by the Chertan wiki and several walkthroughs. Their accounts say Crow stabbed Chertan and poisoned him after Henry joined the Praguer forces to learn when they planned to move the cannon.

The poison is identified by one guide as The Kiss of Death. Accounts agree that Chertan was both stabbed and poisoned, but the claim that poison, rather than the wounds, caused his death rests on a single guide’s summary of the autopsy; treat that detail as less certain.
What evidence points to Crow?
The investigation includes evidence that points in more than one direction. The strongest case guides describe against Crow comes from his tent: it contains Oak Bark, Rose Water, an iron nail used for testing, and a Strange Letter. The first two are ingredients associated with The Kiss of Death, while the letter links Crow to the case.

Musa’s Book of Poisons is in a locked chest near Chertan’s body, which directs attention to the poison. Lord Grozav of Borumlaca accuses Musa of poisoning the wine, while Henry and Kratz defend him. A bond in Chertan’s chest suggests Grozav owed Chertan money, giving Grozav a possible motive. Guides say both Grozav and Crow had access to poison, but consider the items in Crow’s tent the stronger evidence against him.
Who should Henry accuse at the trial?
Musa is wrongly accused, and Henry must name either Lord Grozav or Corporal Stephen Crow. Walkthroughs recommend arguing that Crow is responsible. Grozav is the alternative, and his debt to Chertan provides a reason to suspect him, but the guides’ comparison favors Crow’s tent evidence.

The verdict is followed by a fight whichever man Henry accuses, according to guides. One account says Crow draws his weapon after the verdict. The available walkthrough summaries do not establish whether Musa’s fate is identical in both branches, so do not assume the accusation choice has no effect on him.
What happens if Henry accuses Grozav?
One guide summary says accusing Grozav gets him killed and unlocks the Hydra’s Head trophy for eliminating all three commanders. If you want Crow available for later content, avoid a choice that kills him: one walkthrough says Crow can be recruited later for Maleshov. The guides do not provide a definitive account of every branch’s effect on Musa.

How can the investigation fail?
Guides warn that three failed skill checks, or three mistakes—such as speaking out of turn or making unsupported accusations—can shift blame onto Henry. The reported outcome is that Henry is executed or dies. Keep your claims tied to evidence and avoid spending mistakes on speculation.
