Who is playing Kratos in the God of War series?
Variety reported in August 2026 that Dave Bautista was officially set to play Kratos, replacing Ryan Hurst. The searched coverage did not include a direct studio announcement of Bautista’s casting, so the update is best attributed to Variety.

What happened to Ryan Hurst?
Hurst was announced as Kratos in January 2026. Variety later reported that he suffered a torn bicep on set that required surgery and that the production would recast the role. Hurst’s casting is therefore an earlier announcement, not the current reported casting.
What is the Prime Video adaptation about?
The series adapts PlayStation’s God of War games. Amazon’s project guide says the story centers on Kratos’s relationship with his son, Atreus, and reports that the show received a two-season order. No release date is established in the cited coverage.
