Check the trophy’s exact requirement
PlayStation states that trophy conditions vary from game to game. One trophy may require clearing a level, while another may depend on collectibles, a particular task, a hidden decision, an online session, or a specified game mode. The grade also does not tell you whether the trophy is missable, online-only, cumulative or tied to a single playthrough. Treat the trophy description as the starting point, not as proof that every internal condition has been met. Some games use wording that assumes a particular chapter order, character, difficulty or completion state.

- Highlight the trophy to inspect its description and progress information.
Compare the description with what you actually did. Check for requirements that are easy to miss: a specific difficulty, a fresh playthrough rather than a completed save, a particular character or weapon, a no-death or time limit, an online match, or a sequence that must be completed in order. If the description is vague, the game’s own documentation or a guide for that exact title and trophy may be necessary. A general PlayStation troubleshooting page cannot establish an undocumented condition or confirm that a particular game has a bug.
Verify the active identity and save
Make sure you are playing under the account whose trophy list you are viewing. A different local user, guest profile or secondary PlayStation Network account has a separate trophy history. Also verify that the save file, game edition and console generation match the trophy set you are checking. A remaster, regional release or separate PS4 and PS5 version can present a different list or different conditions.
If several people use the console, switch users deliberately before launching the game. An unlock earned by one account will not transfer to another account simply because both accounts can start the same installed title. Likewise, a PS4 save imported into a PS5 version may not behave like a native PS5 save, so confirm which version’s trophy list is open before repeating an objective.
Synchronize the trophy list
Synchronization is separate from satisfying the in-game requirement. It can make an earned trophy appear on your console and account, but it cannot create a trophy when the game never registered the condition.
Manual sync on PS5
- Select your profile picture on the home screen.
- Choose Trophies.
- Press the Options button.
- Select Sync Trophies.
Wait for the operation to finish, then reopen the game’s trophy list. If the game displayed the unlock but the entry is still absent, close and relaunch the game after synchronization and check the list again. A notification shown during play is useful evidence that the game sent an event, but the list still needs to receive and display it.

Manual sync on PS4
- Open Trophies from the function screen.
- Press the OPTIONS button.
- Select Sync With PlayStation Network.
Keep the console connected until the sync completes. A failed or interrupted operation can leave the local display unchanged; it does not prove that the trophy condition itself failed. If the sync completes but the trophy remains locked, return to the game’s requirement rather than repeating the same sync indefinitely.
Check the connection and PlayStation service status
A trophy that depends on an online action, or a list that will not synchronize, needs a working connection to PlayStation Network. Check the console’s network connection, sign-in state and date or time settings, then check the current PlayStation service-status page for an alert. Do not assume an outage is responsible unless the status page actually reports one.
If the service is operating normally
- Confirm the console is signed in to the intended account.
- Run the console’s internet-connection test and retry synchronization.
- Install any available system-software update and the game’s update before attempting an online trophy again.
- Use a stable connection; if wireless connectivity is intermittent, test the console closer to the router or with a wired connection where practical.
These checks address communication and access problems. They do not alter a game’s hidden trophy logic, so return to the exact requirement if the list syncs but the trophy remains locked.
If PlayStation reports an incident
Wait until the affected service is restored, then sign in and synchronize again. A status alert can explain a temporary inability to update a list, but it does not confirm that every missing trophy is caused by the incident. Keep the game-specific evidence you already collected in case the trophy remains missing afterward.
Separate a locked game from a locked trophy
A padlock icon, a request to purchase the game, or an inability to launch is an access or license symptom—not proof that the trophy requirement is wrong. When trophies are missing after a PS4-to-PS5 transfer
Transfer preparation matters because trophy information belongs to the account and must be synchronized before moving to another console. PlayStation’s transfer guidance calls for the same account on the source and destination consoles, current system software, a synchronized trophy list on the source console, and both systems connected to the same network.
