He did not announce a specific next career. Although reports at the time pointed to possible interest in Valorant, Ana later returned to competitive Dota, including a stint with T1 in 2022.
Why did Ana retire from Dota 2?
In a letter published by OG on June 14, 2021, Ana said he had been considering the decision for a while and wanted to explore life beyond the game. “I have been on the fence about this for a while now but am ready to move on to a new chapter in my life,” he wrote. He added that Dota had been “the biggest part of my life for the longest time” and that he was beginning to appreciate other things he wanted to learn about and explore. OG published Ana’s letter and its response.
That is the reason Ana gave publicly. His letter does not identify burnout, conflict, or another specific cause, so those explanations should not be treated as established. OG said he would no longer compete in Dota 2 and expressed support for his decision.
What led up to the 2021 announcement?
Ana’s retirement came after he had briefly returned to OG’s roster in 2021. OG described the reunion as a return to the team and friends, and said it had agreed with him to rejoin for the DPC in Lisbon. His subsequent decision to stop competing followed that return; the team’s announcement did not give a deeper personal explanation beyond Ana’s own letter. OG’s reunion announcement provides the earlier roster context.

What did Ana plan to do after retiring?
Ana did not name a job, another game, or a specific career plan in his retirement letter. Valorant was discussed as a possibility in contemporaneous coverage, not as a confirmed next step. ONE Esports reported that Ana had reached Radiant in Valorant and watched the Valorant Champions Tour, then speculated that he might move into another esports title. Those details indicate reported interest at the time, not that he announced or pursued a Valorant career. ONE Esports’ 2021 report framed it as a possibility.
Did Ana return to professional Dota after retiring?
Yes. The 2021 announcement did not mark a permanent end to all of Ana’s competitive Dota appearances. He later played as a stand-in for Team Liquid and Royal Never Give Up, then joined T1 in 2022. In an interview published September 13, 2022, Ana said T1 coach Park “March” Tae-won asked if he was interested in playing, and “I think I wanted to compete.” ONE Esports’ interview about his T1 move recounts that return.
