Then reload effects. If effects appear in the list but a preset has no usable options—or an effect does not appear to work—the problem may be the selected preset, missing preset dependencies, or a compilation error rather than the search path.
Start by identifying what is missing
“Shaders not showing up” can describe different symptoms. ReShade may show no effects at all, a selected preset may refer to effects that are unavailable, or listed effects may fail to compile or produce no visible change. Check which case applies before changing files or installing runtimes.
- Empty effect list: check whether shader files exist and whether ReShade searches the directory containing them.
- Effects listed, but preset options missing: check the selected preset and whether its referenced effects are installed.
- Effects listed but not working: inspect the ReShade log for an error, especially a compilation or runtime message.
ReShade support discussions describe both missing-path and compilation-error cases; they are different problems and call for different checks. ReShade forum: “No shaders showing up” · ReShade forum: “Reshade 3.0, shader not compiling – list empty”
Check the effect files and search path
Open ReShade’s settings and inspect Effect Search Paths. It must include a directory that actually contains the shader effect files, which use the .fx extension. A support response specifically points users to the game’s reshade-shadersShaders directory and says its full path should be included in the effect search paths. ReShade forum support response

Do not confuse the effect path with Texture Search Paths: that setting is for image files, not shader effects. A directory can have a plausible name and still be the wrong location if the files are elsewhere. Confirm both that the expected .fx files exist and that the configured path points to their directory. ReShade forum discussion of ReShade.ini settings
Reload effects, then restart the game if needed
- After correcting the effect search path or installing shader files, use ReShade’s reload-effects control.
- If the list remains empty, close and restart the game, then check the effect list again. A game-specific support thread recommends restarting after path changes. ReShade forum: “No options while using reshade presets?”
If files are missing, do not assume an old guide’s download or installation steps match the current package. The cited troubleshooting guide describes manual folder installation, but it is historical; verify the instructions and download location for the shader package you intend to use. If effects appear but the preset has no options
Make sure the intended preset is selected, then check whether the effects it references are present in a searched shader folder. A preset file does not itself guarantee that its required shaders are installed. The troubleshooting guide also warns that presets made for outdated ReShade versions may not work as expected, so check the preset’s own requirements against your game and ReShade version rather than assuming compatibility. Use the log to diagnose compilation or runtime errors
If the files and paths look right, read the ReShade log before reinstalling or changing system components. A log message can distinguish a search-path problem from a failure to load or compile an effect.

“Unable to load D3DCompiler library”
In a historical ReShade support thread, a user reported the message “Unable to load D3DCompiler library. Make sure you have the DirectX end-user runtime (June 2010) installed,” and a maintainer recommended the DirectX End-User Runtime (June 2010) for that case. Treat this as advice tied to that specific error and older context, not as a universal fix for missing shaders or a current requirement for every ReShade installation. ReShade forum thread

A 2018 discussion documented a game changing its working directory so relative shader paths failed; ReShade maintainer crosire said that behavior was fixed in ReShade 4.0.2. If a relative path fails, an absolute path can help test whether ReShade is looking in the wrong location, but that historical report is not evidence that current ReShade versions generally require absolute paths. Quick Recap
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- No effects listed: verify that
.fxfiles exist and that Effect Search Paths points to their folder; reload effects. - Preset has no usable options: confirm the intended preset is selected and its required effects are installed.
- Effects fail or remain inactive: inspect the log and follow the specific error rather than changing unrelated settings.
- Path change has no effect: restart the game and verify the exact folder path again.
