Most “I can’t find my friend on EA” problems come from one of four causes: searching in the wrong place, using an identifier your friend has not made searchable, linking accounts that are not connected, or looking for a friend in a game whose friend list and cross-play rules work differently from the EA app. Work through the checks below in order, starting with which friend list you actually mean.
Start by identifying which friend list you mean
EA draws a distinction that explains most failed searches. Being friends in the EA app, which links you to friends through your EA ID, is not always the same thing as being friends in a game. A friend you added in the app may not appear in a game’s social menu, and a friend you met in a game may not show up in the app’s friend list.

If you cannot tell which list your friend belongs to, search in the place where you intend to play. That is the list that will matter when you try to invite them.
Search for your friend in the EA app
Use the EA app search first if you are adding someone for general friendship on PC or Mac.

- Open the EA app on your PC or Mac.
- Select Add friend under your avatar.
- Select Find friends.
- Search using one of the four identifiers the app accepts: the friend’s display name, EA ID, real name, or email address.
- If the friend appears, send the request. If nothing appears, move to the platform import step below rather than repeating the same search.
Search results depend on the identifier you use and on how your friend has set their profile to be found. A correct name can return nothing if the friend has restricted that identifier, so try a second identifier before assuming the account does not exist.
Import contacts from Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation
If your friend is known to you mainly through another platform, use the import flow instead of typing names.
- In the EA app, select Add friend, then Import friends.
- Choose Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation as the source.
- If the platform does not appear as a usable source, the matching gaming or social account is probably not linked to your EA Account. Link it through the EA Account account-linking flow, then try the import again.
Import only finds contacts whose accounts are linked and searchable. A friend who has never connected a platform account to an EA Account will not appear through this route, even if you can see them on their platform.

Check privacy and searchable identifiers
A friend request can fail because the other person’s profile is private or because the identifier you are searching is not open to search. EA’s own suggested workaround is simple: ask your friend to send the request to you instead. Your friend controls this in their EA Account privacy settings, which offer two separate choices: who can view their profile, and which identifiers other players can use to find it.

Share only the identifiers you are comfortable with. If you are the one being searched for, you can make a single identifier, such as your display name, searchable without exposing your email address or linked platform accounts. Avoid publishing contact details to make a search work.
Find a friend in a game
When the goal is to play together, use the friend list and invite tools inside the specific game. EA Connect is EA’s in-game social feature, but it is not identical across titles. Not every EA game offers every EA Connect feature, and friend search methods, cross-play support, and invite options are set by each game.

Apex Legends example
EA’s Apex Legends help says the game supports cross-play across the EA app, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. To add someone:
- Open the in-game Friends menu.
- Choose Find Friend.
- Enter the person’s EA Public ID.
The same help page also describes searching by email, PSN Online ID, Xbox gamertag, or Nintendo nickname. Each of these depends on the player’s privacy settings. This is one game’s process; do not assume it applies to other EA titles. For any other game, open that game’s current EA Help page for its exact friend search and invite steps.

Cross-play and lobby restrictions
Two conditions commonly block a lobby invite even when the friend is on your list. EA’s EA Connect help lists these restrictions:

- Cross-play is turned off by either player. EA’s friend-request guidance says both players need cross-play enabled in their game settings for friend requests to work in that case.
- The game mode does not support cross-play, so a lobby may be unavailable even when both players have cross-play on.
Both conditions are title-specific. They explain some failures but are not a universal cause, so check each player’s game settings and the mode you are trying to join before changing anything else.

If the friend is correctly identified and the settings look right but the search or request still fails, EA’s basic troubleshooting is the next step:
- Confirm your internet connection is working.
- Restart the EA app.
- Install the latest version of the EA app.
If the friend still cannot be found after these checks, contact EA Customer Support. Include:

- The game you are searching in, or the fact that you are searching the EA app.
- Your platform, such as PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Where you searched, meaning the EA app Find friends screen or the game’s Find Friend menu.
- The identifier you used: display name, EA ID, real name, email, EA Public ID, or platform gamertag or ID.
Giving support these details up front usually avoids the back-and-forth that follows a vague report.
EA help pages and menu labels can change, so treat the paths above as the current wording at the time of writing and confirm them against EA’s help pages if a label differs on your screen.
