Why Can’t I See Realms in Minecraft? Fix Missing Realms

A missing Minecraft Realm usually points to an unaccepted invite, the wrong account or edition, outdated game, or access restrictions. Follow these checks to find the cause.

If a Minecraft Realm is missing from your list, first check that you accepted the invitation on the same edition—Java or Bedrock—and signed into the Microsoft account that received it. Then update the game, check account permissions, and ask the owner to confirm the Realm is active and open. The owner does not need to be online for you to play.

Why isn’t my Realm showing up?

Work through these checks in order, starting with the invitation and account. They address the most common reasons a Realm does not appear before you change network settings or reinstall anything.

  1. Sign into the invited account. Make sure Minecraft is using the Microsoft account the owner invited. If the account appears correct but the Realm is still missing, sign out and back in. On Windows, Minecraft support also recommends refreshing sign-in to related Microsoft Store and Xbox services, then restarting.
  2. Accept or refresh the invitation. An invitation that has not been accepted may not put the Realm in your list. See the edition-specific steps below.
  3. Confirm the edition. Java Realms are for Java Edition players; Bedrock Realms are for Bedrock Edition players. Opening the other edition will not make the Realm compatible.
  4. Update Minecraft. Use the latest release. An older version may not support Realms or may prevent multiplayer connections. If you are using a preview or snapshot, switch to the current release for the check.
  5. Ask the owner to verify the Realm. Have them confirm its subscription is active, the Realm is open, and the invitation was sent to the correct account. For Bedrock, they should also check that an invitation link is still valid and has not been disabled or expired.
  6. Check account and platform access. Child-account privacy controls can block multiplayer or cross-network play. Console players may also need the console platform’s online-play subscription.
  7. Check service status and connectivity. If the checks above pass, look for a Minecraft or platform service issue. Confirm your internet connection is stable; custom DNS or port configurations can sometimes interfere.

How do I accept a Minecraft Realm invite?

Java Edition

Open the Realms menu and accept the invitation. Minecraft says an accepted Java Realms invitation appears in the list of available Realms. You can also use the Join Realm option with a join code when the owner provides one. See Minecraft’s Java invitation guide.

Bedrock Edition

Accept the invitation in the in-game Inbox. Alternatively, go to Play > Realms > Add/join Realm and choose the option to join an existing Realm using its invitation link. The link must still be valid. See Minecraft’s Bedrock invitation guide.

Does the Realm have to be open, and does the owner need to be online?

The Realm must be active and open for guests to access it, but the owner does not need to be online. If the owner is offline, that alone does not explain why the Realm is absent from your list. Ask the owner to check the Realm’s status and your invitation if you cannot see it.

Do I need a subscription to join someone else’s Realm?

The owner needs an active Realms subscription. Minecraft’s Java guidance says a joining player does not need their own Realms subscription. That does not remove separate platform requirements: console players may need the console’s online-play subscription. The reviewed guidance does not establish the same joining-player subscription rule for every Bedrock platform, so check the current requirements for your device. See Minecraft’s joining guide and Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements.

Can child-account settings hide or block Realms?

Yes. Microsoft or Xbox family privacy settings can prevent a child account from joining multiplayer games or playing across networks. Ask the adult who manages the family account to allow the relevant multiplayer access. After a setting changes, sign out of Minecraft, restart the game, and sign back in. Minecraft’s Realm joining guidance and Xbox child-account privacy instructions explain the account controls.

What if the invitation, account, and edition are all correct?

Check whether your device is supported, the Realm is active, and any required online-play subscription is current. Minecraft’s Realm connection troubleshooting recommends verifying these requirements. If they are satisfied, check Minecraft and platform service status, then review your network configuration. A stable internet connection is important; custom DNS or port settings may conflict with a connection. Avoid changing router settings unless you understand the configuration and can restore it.
