If Sims cannot interact in The Sims 4, first check whether clicking another Sim fails to open the social menu or whether a chosen interaction gets stuck. Those symptoms point to different troubleshooting paths, and the title alone cannot identify one cause. If a Sim seems frozen, try EA’s reset steps; if the problem continues, test whether mods are involved.
First, identify what is failing
Click another Sim and watch what happens. Does no social menu appear, or can you choose an interaction that then sits in the queue without completing? Also note whether the problem affects one Sim, one household, or everyone in the save. These distinctions help narrow the problem, but do not establish its cause: community posts describe both kinds of failure without showing how common either is.

If the issue started after a game update, consider whether installed mods or custom content might be involved. EA says mods can cause different kinds of problems and that a mod that worked before can become problematic after an update.
Reset a Sim that appears stuck
EA’s reset guidance offers two methods. A reset returns a Sim to a playable state, but it does not send them home; their needs remain unchanged, and their wishes and moodlets are canceled.

Use the reset command
- Open the cheat window: press Ctrl+Shift+C on PC or Mac, L1+L2+R1+R2 on PlayStation, or LB+LT+RB+RT on Xbox.
- Type
resetSim Firstname Lastname, replacing the names with the Sim’s first and last name, then submit the command.
Use Reset Object (Debug)
- Open the cheat window using the controls for your platform and enter
testingcheats true. - Shift-click the affected Sim and choose Reset Object (Debug).

Check whether mods or custom content are involved
- Check the mod or custom-content creator’s compatibility information, especially if the issue began after an update.
- Temporarily test the game without mods or custom content. If interactions work in that test, that is a clue that something in the removed content may be involved; it does not prove which item is responsible or rule out other causes.
- Reintroduce content carefully and check for compatibility information as you narrow down what changed.

Check whether the game has a fix for your specific problem
EA’s September 22, 2026 update notes describe a targeted change: Bad Luck became less likely to cause social outcome failures while interacting with other Sims. The notes also say the game releases a stand-slot reservation held by a blocked interaction so the slot can be reconsidered on a later attempt. These fixes address particular situations; they do not establish that every cause of failed interactions has been resolved. See the official update notes for the full changes.

If resetting the affected Sim and testing without mods do not explain the issue, use EA’s reset help page to reach customer support. When reporting the problem, describe whether the social menu is missing or an interaction stalls after selection, how many Sims or households are affected, and whether the issue persists in a test without mods. Those details distinguish the observed failure from a guess about its cause.
