When the Xbox app cannot see a game that is already on your Windows 11 PC, there is no single Microsoft-confirmed cause. Check the Microsoft account and Store library first, then refresh Xbox, Windows, and Microsoft Store; use Xbox’s Windows app Repair option if it is available; and leave Reset or reinstall for last. These steps address account, Store, and stale-app conditions without assuming that every local installation is supported or automatically indexed by Xbox.
What the missing game usually means
“Installed” can describe several different states. A title may be present in a folder, owned by the signed-in Microsoft account, downloadable from Microsoft Store, or registered in the Xbox app’s own library view. Those states are related but not identical. Microsoft’s PC library instructions tell you to open Microsoft Store, select Library, and view My Library. That page is a useful ownership and download check; it does not prove that every local installation, especially one made through another launcher, will appear in Xbox.

The safest approach is therefore diagnostic rather than destructive. Establish whether the account is entitled to the game, determine whether Store can see it, refresh the apps and operating system, and only then change Xbox app data. Microsoft’s general Store guidance supports this sequence, but it does not document a guaranteed Xbox indexing process for this exact symptom.

Follow this order before changing anything
- Verify the account and library. In Microsoft Store, go to Library > My Library. Confirm that Xbox and Store use the Microsoft account that bought the game or receives it through the relevant subscription. Check Order history if ownership is unclear.
- Refresh the software. Close Xbox completely and open it again. In Microsoft Store, select Library > Get updates. Install available Windows 11 updates in Settings > Windows Update. If Windows has just installed an update, restart the PC before checking Xbox again.
- Repair Xbox. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Xbox, select its three-dot menu, choose Advanced options, and select Repair if Windows presents it.
- Reset only if necessary. If Repair is unavailable or does not help, return to the same Advanced options page and consider Reset. Read Windows’ warning first because app-specific data and sign-in state can be removed.
- Reinstall last. Microsoft Store’s Library can be used to reinstall the Xbox app. Reinstallation is more disruptive than checking the account, updates, restart, or Repair, so reserve it for a persistent problem.
This sequence is a set of checks, not a promise that one action will make an unsupported installation appear. Record what changes after each step; that observation distinguishes an account problem from an app-state problem.

Check ownership and the correct Microsoft account
Use Store Library as the entitlement cross-check
Open Microsoft Store and inspect Library > My Library. If the title is listed with an install or download control, Store recognizes it for that account. If a Download icon is shown, Microsoft’s instructions indicate that the title has not been downloaded through that library. If the game is absent, do not assume that reinstalling Xbox will fix it: first verify the account and purchase or subscription entitlement.
Xbox and Microsoft Store can be signed into different accounts. A family member’s account, a work account, or an old personal account can leave Xbox showing an empty or incomplete collection even though the files remain on disk. Sign out and back in only after noting which account owns the game, then recheck the library.
When the library does not settle the question
Store visibility is a useful ownership test, not a complete local-file detector. A game obtained from another PC launcher may not be imported into Xbox automatically. The Microsoft material covering PC libraries does not establish a supported import mechanism or promise that Xbox will discover every such installation. Treat an external-launcher install as a separate branch instead of repeatedly repairing Xbox.

Refresh Xbox, Microsoft Store, and Windows 11
Close and reopen both apps
Exit Xbox, not just its visible window, and launch it again. Also close Microsoft Store before reopening it. Microsoft’s Store-app guidance lists signing in, closing and reopening the app, and checking for updates as basic first steps. A fresh process can clear a temporary display state without touching game files.
Install Store and Windows updates
In Microsoft Store, choose Library > Get updates and allow Store apps to update. In Windows 11, open Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, and install what Windows offers. Restart after an update that requests it. A pending restart is also one of the conditions Microsoft lists when an app cannot be installed or used normally.
After restarting, open Store first, confirm that it finishes any queued update, and then open Xbox. If the game appears in Store but not Xbox, that result points toward an Xbox app state or library-registration issue rather than proof that the files are missing.

Repair, reset, or reinstall the Xbox app
Repair is the least disruptive app-data step
Microsoft’s Windows 11 path is Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Xbox menu > Advanced options. Select Repair when the button is present. Repair is intended to correct an app without the broader data removal associated with Reset. Windows does not expose Advanced options or Repair for every app, so the absence of the button is normal and is not evidence that your game installation is damaged.
Reset has app-specific consequences
If Repair is missing or ineffective, Microsoft says to try Reset from the same page. Read the confirmation text and be prepared to sign into Xbox again. Reset changes the Xbox app’s stored state; it is not a command to delete the game’s installation folder, but the exact effect is app-specific, so do not treat it as risk-free. Reopen Xbox and verify the account after the reset.
Reinstall only after the checks above
Microsoft’s Store guidance includes reinstalling an app through Store Library. Reinstalling Xbox can clear a damaged app package, but it also adds download time and another sign-in step. It cannot establish ownership for the wrong account, make a region-restricted title available, or guarantee discovery of a game installed by an unrelated launcher. Use it when the app itself will not update, open, or retain its normal library state after Repair and Reset.

When Microsoft Store cannot see the game
If the title is missing from Store search or cannot be installed, check Store availability conditions before troubleshooting local files. Microsoft lists several possibilities:
- Regional availability: the app or game may not be offered in the account’s country or region.
- Family settings: age or family controls can hide or block a title.
- Listing status: a delisted app may no longer be installable from Store.
- Device compatibility: the current PC may not meet the title’s supported hardware or Windows requirements.
- Pending restart: Windows may need to restart before Store completes an install or update.
- Account authorization: Store may require the account that owns the purchase or has the subscription.
These explanations apply directly when Store cannot list or install the title. Microsoft’s page does not say that each one explains every case where game files already exist but Xbox’s installed list is incomplete. Keep the two symptoms separate: “not available in Store” is an availability or entitlement branch; “available in Store but absent in Xbox” is an app-state or registration branch.
Distinguish a moved installation from a missing entitlement
Microsoft advises looking in the Store library for PC apps or games that have been moved. If a drive letter changed, a folder was relocated, or Windows was reinstalled, the library may still provide the supported route to download the title again. Do not delete a large game folder merely because Xbox does not list it; first determine whether Store recognizes the account and whether the files belong to the same installation source.

An installation from another launcher, a manually copied folder, or a different Windows user may remain playable through its original launcher while being absent from Xbox. The available Microsoft guidance does not confirm automatic discovery or an import command for those cases. Continue using the original launcher for that title, or reinstall through the Microsoft account and Store path if you need the Xbox-managed version.
Gaming Services: do not apply an old workaround blindly
Gaming Services is often suggested in discussions of Xbox problems, but the Microsoft article commonly cited for removing and reinstalling it is KB5004327. That article is explicitly for Windows 10 and for error codes 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F encountered while installing or starting games. It is not evidence that an ordinary Windows 11 “installed game not showing” symptom is caused by Gaming Services.
Do not run a PowerShell removal script as a generic first-line response to a missing library entry. Investigate Gaming Services only when Windows or Xbox shows a matching prompt or installation/start error, and use current Xbox guidance for that exact message. The Xbox Support page titled Troubleshoot game installations on Windows requires JavaScript for its detailed content; without readable steps, it would be unsafe to infer a command sequence from the page title alone.

| What you observe | Most useful next check | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Game is absent from Store Library | Verify the Microsoft account, Order history, subscription, region, and family settings. | It does not prove that local files are corrupted. |
| Game is in Store Library but absent from Xbox | Close and reopen apps, update Store and Windows, restart, then try Xbox Repair. | It does not prove a specific indexing or Gaming Services failure. |
| Game appears in Xbox but will not install or start | Capture the exact error and follow current Xbox installation guidance for that message. | It is no longer only a library-visibility problem. |
| Game was installed by another launcher | Check that launcher and its account; compare its install location with the Xbox-managed library. | Xbox is not documented here as automatically importing it. |
| Store reports incompatibility or unavailable listing | Check region, family controls, device compatibility, listing status, restart, and authorization. | Repairing Xbox cannot override Store eligibility. |
What to record before asking for support
- The Microsoft account shown in Xbox and Store, with personal details omitted when sharing screenshots.
- Whether the title appears under Store Library > My Library and whether Store offers Download or Install.
- Where the game was installed: Microsoft Store/Xbox, another launcher, a moved drive, or a manually copied folder.
- Your Windows 11 version, Xbox app version if displayed, and whether updates or a restart were pending.
- The exact result after closing and reopening, Repair, Reset, or reinstalling; avoid listing steps you did not actually perform.
- Any error code or Gaming Services prompt, because an installation/start failure requires a different support path from a missing library tile.
This information lets support separate entitlement, Store availability, app state, and installation-source issues without asking you to remove working game files or run an unrelated Windows 10 workaround.
