Gina Torres stopped voicing Ikora Rey years before the 2025 Destiny 2 discussion. Bungie welcomed Mara Junot to the role in 2021. The different voice some players heard in The Edge of Fate was a separate, temporary change for certain content while voice talent was unavailable.
When did Gina Torres stop voicing Ikora?
The transition predates the 2025 fan reaction. In a May 2021 Bungie forum post titled “Welcome Ikora Rey!”, Bungie acknowledged that speculation about Torres being replaced was correct and welcomed Mara Junot to the Destiny community. The post is contemporaneous confirmation of the change, rather than a formal casting press release. Bungie’s 2021 forum post.

Why did Ikora sound different in The Edge of Fate?
That was a later casting change, not Torres returning or being newly replaced in 2025. In its May 8, 2025 This Week in Destiny, Bungie said, “For our upcoming releases, some voice talent has been unavailable for recordings.” It listed Ikora among characters with different English voices in Rite of the Nine or The Edge of Fate content. PC Gamer reported that Debra Wilson, who voices Savathûn in Destiny 2, performed the temporary Ikora lines; that identification is reporting, not a performer named in Bungie’s announcement. Did Bungie bring Mara Junot back?
On July 15, 2025, Bungie said the recording conflicts had been resolved and it was re-recording lines for affected characters. The studio said it was “actively re-recording lines for affected characters,” but did not give a specific date for when the lines would be updated, saying only that it was aiming for a future update. PC Gamer’s report quoting Bungie’s July statement.
A 2026 GamesRadar article identifies Junot as Ikora’s voice actor. That supports the current attribution, but does not establish when every re-recorded line went live or confirm the status of every language version. GamesRadar’s 2026 article.
