Bungie removed the Forsaken campaign and the Tangled Shore from Destiny 2 on February 22, 2022, when they entered the Destiny Content Vault (DCV). Bungie said the change would make room for The Witch Queen, its new destination and features, and planned seasonal content. The removal did not erase everything tied to Forsaken: the Dreaming City remained, along with activities and Exotics included in the Forsaken Pack.
What did Bungie remove?
“Forsaken” can mean the 2018 expansion as a whole, but the February 2022 vaulting specifically removed its campaign and the Tangled Shore destination. The Dreaming City remained in the game. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault announcement outlined what was leaving and what would stay.

Bungie’s current Forsaken Pack guide lists the Last Wish raid, the Shattered Throne dungeon, and Forsaken Exotics among the Pack’s content. It does not say that buying the Pack restores the removed campaign.
Why did Bungie say it was vaulting Forsaken?
Bungie’s stated immediate reason was to make room for The Witch Queen and the content launching alongside it. In its announcement, Bungie said vaulting would allow space for the expansion’s Throne World destination, weapon crafting, a Legendary campaign difficulty, the Glaive weapon archetype, and content planned for the next four seasons beginning in February 2022.

The studio’s broader explanation for the DCV was that cycling some destinations and activities out of the game would help keep Destiny 2 sustainable and let Bungie update it more quickly. That is Bungie’s account of the purpose of the system, not independent proof that vaulting this particular campaign was technically necessary. The official sources cited here do not establish that necessity or provide figures for storage, development cost, or player impact.
Does the Forsaken Pack bring the campaign back?
No. Bungie’s current Forsaken Pack guide describes access to the Last Wish raid, Shattered Throne dungeon, and Forsaken Exotics; it does not offer the removed campaign. Ownership requirements for raids and dungeons can depend on the relevant expansion or Dungeon Key, so check Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide for current access details.

Did Bungie stop vaulting expansions?
Yes. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault support page says that in August 2022 the studio announced Destiny 2 expansions would no longer be vaulted. Seasonal content follows a separate schedule: it remains available during its current expansion and moves to the DCV when a new expansion launches.

On September 17, 2026, Bungie Studio Head Poria Torkan and Head of Product and General Manager of Marathon Josh Deane said the studio was beginning work to bring vaulted campaigns, destinations, and raids back. They said the work requires technical updates to elements including lighting, encounters, combatants, and underlying systems, and would take time. Their statement describes a broad restoration effort; it does not name Forsaken or give a return date. It is therefore not confirmation that the campaign is coming back on a particular schedule.
