A toddler who vanishes from a household in The Sims 4 is usually in one of three situations: the Sim has been moved out of the active household or lot, the save has a state problem, or a mod or custom content (CC) item is interfering with the game. No single cause explains every case, so the fastest route is to check these possibilities in order, starting with the least disruptive.
Start by checking where the toddler is listed
A toddler who is not on the active lot has not necessarily been deleted. Open the household management screen for the played household, then check the other households in the save. You can also review the save through Manage Worlds. If the toddler appears in another household, the Sim still exists and only needs to be moved back.

An EA Forums thread titled “Missing sims toddler” asks whether household size, specifically eight Sims, plays a role. That question is a useful prompt to check your household count, but nothing in the available EA material shows that household size causes toddlers to disappear. Treat it as a lead rather than a diagnosis.
If the toddler is gone from every household, restore an earlier save
If the Sim is absent from every household, the next step is to recover an earlier version of the save. This is a trade-off: restoring a save returns the whole world to that point, so any progress made after it is lost.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Develop Parenting Skills – Level up your Sim’s parenting skills to satisfy their child’s needs and influence their behaviors. Gain new abilities through experience and choosing when to discipline bad actions, encourage good behavior, or just let kids be kids.
- Shape Your Sim’s Childhood – The decisions you make influence how your Sim parents and leave a lasting impact on their child’s future. Each choice shapes their personality, affects their traits, influences their family relationships, and guides their path into adulthood.
- Gather your Sim’s family to participate in new activities and spend quality time with each other. Sims of all ages can work together to complete a variety of school projects, express their creativity using construction blocks, or volunteer their time for good.
- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
- Back up the current save first. Copy the save files somewhere outside the game folder before you change anything, so you can return to the current state if the restore does not help.
- Open EA’s save-restore guidance. The EA Forums thread links to EA’s instructions for restoring a saved game. Use the current version of that guide, because steps and file locations differ by platform and may have changed since the thread was posted.
- Restore a save from before the toddler went missing. If you do not know when the problem started, go back one save at a time and check the household list each time.
- Confirm the toddler is back and check the household. Look for the Sim in the household list and on the lot before you continue playing, so you do not build more progress on a broken state.
A restore recovers the Sim only if the Sim existed in that earlier save. It cannot guarantee recovery if the problem was already present in every save you have.
If you use mods or CC, test the game without them
EA states that it does not review or support third-party content. Its help article on mods and game updates says: “Since we don’t screen or support any Mods, it’s possible a Mod that didn’t cause any issues for players before could cause them after an update.” The same article adds: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” That means a mod that worked before a patch can break after it, and the responsibility for updating or fixing it rests with the mod’s creator.

- Create Vampires
- Unleash Supernatural Powers
- Escape to Forgotten Hollow
- Live the Immortal Life
EA’s documented troubleshooting method works like this:
- Launch with mods disabled. Start the game without mods and CC active.
- Check whether the problem persists. If the toddler is still missing with everything disabled, mods are unlikely to be the trigger for that session, and you should return to the household checks above.
- Close without saving before re-enabling anything. This prevents the game from writing a mod-affected state into the save.
- Check each mod creator’s update status. Look for an update that matches your current game version.
- Re-add mods in batches. Enable a group of mods and test again. If the problem returns, split that batch in half and repeat until the single problem item is isolated.
- Remove or update the problematic mod. Once isolated, either update it from its creator or remove it, then re-test.
Check the compatibility list for your game version
The EA Forums “Mod and CC Issues: START HERE” thread is a maintained index. It links to lists of broken or updated mods and to instructions for vanilla and 50/50 testing. When it was checked, the displayed list was for game patch 1.128 and dated September 22, 2026. These lists are version-specific, so confirm that the list matches your installed patch before you act on it. A list for a different patch can flag mods that are fine for you or miss ones that are not.

Is this a known bug?
EA’s “Laundry List: Upcoming Quality of Life Updates, Free Content and More” post, dated May 5, 2026, describes more than 25 fixes for infant and toddler issues. It also lists one fix for children who were taken away even though they had not been neglected. EA said that fix does not apply retroactively to children who were already removed.
These notes do not confirm that your toddler’s disappearance is the same problem. They are announced changes, and the post does not describe the specific symptom you are seeing. If your save predates the update, or if the Sim was already removed, the fix may not restore them.

What each check can and cannot tell you
| Check | What it can tell you | What it cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Household and save listing | Whether the toddler is in another household in the same save | Why the Sim was moved or whether the cause is a save bug |
| Restore an earlier save | Whether the Sim existed at an earlier point in the save | Whether the Sim will stay in the household afterward |
| Mods and CC disabled | Whether mods or CC are involved in that session | Whether a mod caused an earlier change that is already in the save |
| Patch-specific mod list | Which mods are reported as broken or updated for a given patch | Whether your particular mod setup is affected |
The exact trigger in your save is not established by the available EA material, and no published figures show how often toddlers go missing, so this guide does not estimate how common the problem is. Work through the household check, the save restore, and the mod test in that order, and keep backups at each step.
