The message means the platform account you are trying to connect, such as an Xbox profile, is already attached to a different Ubisoft account. It does not say which Ubisoft account holds that link, so the fix starts with finding that account. Ubisoft documents this conflict in its general account-linking help article, and it has a dedicated article for the Xbox message “This profile is already linked to another user” when Ubisoft games are played on PC Game Pass.
What the error is telling you
Ubisoft’s general linking guidance says that if an error appears while linking a platform account, that platform account may already be linked to another Ubisoft account. Its PC Game Pass article makes the Xbox case explicit: the Xbox account is already linked to a different Ubisoft account. The error is therefore an association conflict. It is not a sign that your current Ubisoft account is broken, and it does not identify the other account.
Readers often phrase the same problem as “I can’t link my Ubisoft account” or “my Xbox account is linked to the wrong Ubisoft account.” The cause and the fix are the same.
Find the Ubisoft account that holds the link
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account you want to use, then open the Account Information page.
- Open Linked accounts and check the tile for the platform you are trying to connect, including its current status.
- If that platform does not appear as linked here, sign in to any other Ubisoft accounts you may have created or used, and check their Linked accounts pages for the same platform account.
- If you find the account that holds the link, note its sign-in email so you can use it for the unlinking steps below. If you cannot find it, go to the Support section later in this article.
Ubisoft’s menu labels can change over time. If the labels on your screen differ from the ones above, look for the equivalent linking option on the Account Information page.

How linking is normally started
Ubisoft describes two routes. The first is the Account Information webpage: open Linked accounts, choose the platform, select Link, and follow the prompts. The second is to launch a game and sign in to Ubisoft Connect, which starts the linking process from the game. Some platforms have their own linking instructions, and Ubisoft points users to those when they apply. The linking instructions are in the Linking other accounts to your Ubisoft account article.
The Xbox and PC Game Pass fix
For the “This profile is already linked to another user” message, Ubisoft’s stated remedy is to unlink the existing Ubisoft account from the Xbox account and then link the Ubisoft account you want to use. - Sign in to the Ubisoft account that currently holds the Xbox link.
- Unlink the Xbox account from it, following Ubisoft’s unlinking instructions for that platform. Read the warnings in the next section before you do this.
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account you want to use, open Linked accounts, choose Xbox, select Link, and follow the prompts.
- Return to the game on PC Game Pass and sign in again to check whether the error still appears.
This fix applies to the Xbox account that is already attached to the wrong Ubisoft account. If you want to connect a different Xbox account to a Ubisoft account that was previously linked to an Xbox account, Ubisoft directs you to contact Support instead.
What you can lose by unlinking
Ubisoft warns that linking and unlinking external accounts can have a lasting effect on games and subscriptions. Before you unlink, check the following:

- Platform-store content. You may lose access to content purchased through the platform store while the link is removed.
- Relinking requirement. You may need to relink the same platform account to regain access, so keep track of which platform account you used.
- Subscriptions. Subscription access tied to a platform can be affected. Confirm the situation before you act.
- No transfer of ownership. Unlinking does not move purchases, progression, or saves to the account you link next. Ubisoft’s guidance describes linking and access conditions and does not promise that content or saves will follow a new link.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
Use the table below to decide whether you can fix the problem yourself or need Support.

When you contact Support, give the exact error text, the platform and profile involved, and the Ubisoft account email you use to sign in. This helps Support identify which association is blocking the link.

Crossplay and cross-progression
Linking an account does not by itself give you access to a game. Ubisoft describes crossplay as playing with friends on different platforms, and cross-progression as accessing game progression across linked platforms where you own the game.
