Steam’s recent-review label reflects a changing review window, so its count and positive share can shift as new reviews arrive and older ones leave that window. Search-result excerpts captured for this article showed the “Mostly Negative” label but inconsistent figures. They are not a reliable basis for claiming one exact, current percentage. Steam’s search listing was the source of those snapshots; a direct listing opened to an age-check page.

Keep that distinction in mind when comparing numbers elsewhere. GamesRadar reported a 47.7% SteamDB user-rating figure on December 4, 2025, during launch-period coverage. That is a dated launch snapshot, not the present recent-review share and not a measure of how many players disliked the map. GamesRadar’s launch-period report also discussed complaints about value and content.
Why are players calling the map “garbage”?
In Reddit discussions about the DLC, some players describe the Great Hollow as a harder map to read and plan around than Limveld. Their complaints are specific: its vertical routes do not translate cleanly to an overhead map, points of interest can be unclear or poorly marked, and bottomless pits can punish a route choice. Those problems feel more acute in Nightreign because an expedition’s shrinking circle puts a clock on exploration. These are individual community reactions, not a representative survey or an objective verdict on the map. The r/Nightreign discussions include both criticism and replies from players.

Other players argue that the layout becomes easier to navigate after learning its landmarks and routes, and that the original game also took time to understand. The disagreement is partly about what a map should do: critics want clearer guidance during a timed run, while defenders see discovery and route knowledge as part of the challenge. The discussions do not establish how common either view is.
Is the map the only reason reviews are negative?
No evidence here supports assigning the DLC’s Steam reception to one feature. The map is a prominent topic in the reviewed discussions, but launch-period coverage also described complaints about how much content players felt they were getting relative to expectations and price. A negative review may reflect the map, perceived value, or other parts of the experience; the available sources do not quantify those causes.

What does The Forsaken Hollows add?
The Forsaken Hollows launched on December 4, 2025, as add-on content for Elden Ring Nightreign. The base game is required. Bandai Namco lists the following additions:
- Two Nightfarers: Scholar and Undertaker.
- Two new third-day bosses, alongside new field bosses.
- New points of interest in Limveld.
- A new Shifting Earth condition that substantially changes Limveld’s geography.
The publisher announced availability on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Check that a listing matches your platform and that you own the base game before buying. Bandai Namco’s December 4, 2025 announcement gives the launch date, platforms, requirement, and content details. FromSoftware’s Steam Community announcement likewise describes two Nightfarers, two new bosses, and one new Shifting Earth.

How to judge whether the DLC fits your play style
The content list answers what is included; whether it suits you depends in part on how you feel about its navigation. If you prefer clearly signposted routes and quick reads during a timed run, the reported verticality, hazards, and unclear points of interest are relevant cautions. If learning a map over repeated expeditions is satisfying, players who say the Great Hollow becomes more legible may find its unfamiliarity less of a drawback.
For the value question, weigh the new characters, bosses, and map/event content against your expectations for an add-on. The existence of those additions does not settle whether the price feels worthwhile to a particular player. A Collector’s Edition is a physical package that includes the base game and The Forsaken Hollows along with other items; it is not a standalone physical DLC release. Availability and price depend on the seller and region.
