It is usually caused by a stale session, wrong account, outdated client, clock or network problem, or a temporary service outage—not automatically by a ban or missing purchase.
The message “Sorry, we can’t validate your login” means Minecraft could not complete the Microsoft/Xbox account or session check required for an online feature. In Bedrock Edition, that check supports multiplayer, Realms, Marketplace, skins, and featured servers. On Windows, the Minecraft Launcher also relies on Microsoft and Xbox services to confirm the account, game license, and related features.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →It does not automatically mean that you are banned, that your purchase has disappeared, or that the server is permanently broken. The usual causes are a stale sign-in token, the wrong Microsoft account, an outdated game, an inaccurate device clock, a network or VPN problem, a temporary Microsoft/Xbox outage, or an issue affecting only one server.
Try these fixes first
- Close Minecraft completely, not just to the console or phone’s suspended-app screen. Reopen it and try the same feature again.
- Sign out of Microsoft and sign back in. On the Launcher, use the gamertag or account menu to log out, close the Launcher, reopen it, and authenticate again. In Bedrock, use the in-game account settings.
- Check that you are using the account that owns Minecraft. This is especially important if you have more than one Microsoft account.
- Update Minecraft and the Launcher. A featured server can reject an older Bedrock client even when other parts of the game work.
- Set the device’s date, time, and time zone to automatic, then restart the device.
- Test another online feature or another network. Try Marketplace, Realms, or a different server. If possible, test a phone hotspot with VPNs and proxies disabled.
- Check Microsoft/Xbox and Minecraft service status. If authentication services are unavailable, local repairs will not restore login validation until the outage ends.
Do not start by deleting worlds or repeatedly reinstalling the game. Account, service, time, and network checks are faster and more diagnostic.

First determine what is actually failing
| What you observe | Most likely direction |
|---|---|
| Only one featured server shows the message | Server maintenance, a server-specific authentication problem, or an incompatible game version |
| Several servers fail, but single-player works | Microsoft/Xbox authentication, account session, network, or an outdated client |
| Marketplace, Realms, skins, and multiplayer all fail | A broader account-session or Microsoft/Xbox service problem |
| The Launcher cannot validate ownership on Windows | Wrong account, mismatched Microsoft Store/Xbox sign-in, or damaged Launcher/Store components |
| The error affects multiple devices or networks | A service outage or account-side problem is more likely than a local installation fault |
This distinction matters. A single-server failure is not proof that Minecraft is globally down, while a simultaneous failure of Marketplace, Realms, and multiple servers points away from one server’s settings.
1. Refresh the Minecraft login session
Authentication tokens can become stale after a password change, account switch, long period of suspended gameplay, or a temporary service interruption. Signing out and back in forces Minecraft to request a fresh session.
Windows Launcher
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Open the account or gamertag menu.
- Choose the sign-out option.
- Close the Launcher completely.
- Open it again and sign in with the intended Microsoft account.
Bedrock Edition
Open Minecraft’s account settings and sign out of the Microsoft account, then authenticate again. On PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices, Minecraft may use a code-based Microsoft sign-in flow. Complete that flow with the account that owns or is entitled to the game, then return to Minecraft and retry the feature.
On Xbox, sign out of the console profile and sign back in. If the error remains, restart the console rather than relying only on the game’s quick-resume or suspended state.
2. Confirm the correct Microsoft account
A gamertag alone is not always enough to identify the Microsoft account being used. Players with multiple accounts can be signed into one account in Minecraft and another in the Microsoft Store or Xbox app.
Verify the account that actually owns Minecraft by checking the original purchase-confirmation email or the account’s Microsoft Order History. Do this before buying the game again. A missing license in the current session can be an account mismatch or a temporary license-service failure, not a lost purchase.
Windows account alignment
On Windows, check that the same Microsoft account is active in all three locations:

- The Minecraft Launcher
- The Microsoft Store
- The Xbox app
If these apps use different accounts, the Launcher may be unable to validate ownership or access services such as Realms and parental controls. Sign out of the apps that have the wrong account and sign back in consistently. Avoid changing accounts repeatedly without noting which one owns the game.
3. Update Minecraft and the Launcher
An old client can fail server-side compatibility or authentication checks. Update Minecraft through the normal update mechanism for your platform, update the Launcher where applicable, and restart the game after the update finishes.
The Hive, a featured Bedrock server, has reported validation problems affecting older Bedrock versions. One report concerned versions below 1.20, while a later report identified Bedrock 1.21.93 or later for a related issue. These are server-specific reports, not a universal requirement for every Minecraft server or every current release. If only that server fails, check its own support or status information for the version it currently requires.

4. Synchronize the device clock
Microsoft authentication uses time-sensitive security tokens. If the device has an incorrect date, time, or time zone, a token can be treated as invalid or expired.
On Windows, open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, enable automatic time and automatic time zone where available, and use the operating system’s synchronization control. Restart Minecraft afterward.
On consoles and mobile devices, enable network-provided time if the platform offers that setting, then restart the device or game.

This is a sensible diagnostic step, not a guaranteed Minecraft-specific cure. Official Minecraft troubleshooting emphasizes restarting and refreshing the sign-in session; community reports are the main reason to include clock synchronization when those steps do not work.
5. Test the network without changing everything permanently
Normal web browsing does not prove that the network path required by Minecraft, Microsoft, Xbox, or a featured server is working. VPNs, proxies, custom DNS, firewalls, antivirus network filters, router rules, and restrictive NAT can interfere with authentication.
Use controlled tests:
- Switch temporarily from Wi-Fi to Ethernet, or from Ethernet to Wi-Fi.
- Try a mobile hotspot to determine whether the home network is the variable.
- Disable a VPN or restrictive proxy temporarily.
- Return custom DNS to automatic for the test.
- Restart the router and the device.
- Review firewall and antivirus rules for Minecraft, the Launcher, Xbox services, and the Microsoft Store.
- Check the router’s NAT status and undo unusual port or filtering changes made shortly before the problem began.
Do not permanently disable antivirus or firewall protection. If a controlled test identifies security software as the cause, restore protection and create an appropriate application exception instead. If the error follows you to another network, stop changing router settings and investigate the account or service status.
Windows Launcher: repair the related components
When the problem is limited to Windows ownership validation or the Launcher, repair the Windows components before reinstalling the entire game.

- Update Windows, the Microsoft Store, the Xbox app, and the Minecraft Launcher.
- Use the Windows app settings to repair the Minecraft Launcher if that option is available.
- Reset the Microsoft Store cache by opening the Windows Run dialog, entering
wsreset.exe, and waiting for the Store to reopen. - Restart Windows and try the Launcher again.
Menus can differ between Windows releases and Launcher versions. If repair does not help and the Launcher installation itself is damaged, reinstall the official Launcher. Back up local worlds first, particularly before resetting or removing applications.
Reinstalling the Launcher does not fix a Microsoft/Xbox outage, a wrong account, or a blocked network. It is most useful when you also see Launcher crashes, damaged installation behavior, or other local application errors.

Bedrock on Xbox
Sign out of the Xbox profile and back in, then fully restart the console and Minecraft. Check whether other Microsoft-connected features work. If only one featured server fails, update Bedrock and consult that server’s support information.

Bedrock on PlayStation, Switch, and mobile
Use Minecraft’s in-game Microsoft account controls to sign out and sign back in. Complete the code-based sign-in flow with the intended Microsoft account. Update Minecraft through the platform’s store, enable network time if available, and test another network if the error persists.
On platforms where the game is suspended in the background, close it completely before retrying. A suspended session can preserve an expired authentication state.
Java Edition
The exact wording is more commonly associated with Bedrock or server contexts, but Java players can encounter related authentication and session-validation failures. Sign out and back into the Java Launcher, confirm the account owns the game, update the Launcher, and test the connection with VPN, firewall, and antivirus variables checked.
If the failure occurs only when joining one Java server, the server may be unavailable or unable to communicate with the authentication services. If the Launcher itself reports a license or ownership problem on Windows, use the same Microsoft Store, Xbox app, and account-ownership checks described above.
When should you wait instead of reinstalling?
Wait and try again later when the error appeared suddenly, affects several devices or networks, prevents Marketplace and Realms from loading as well as multiplayer, or is being reported by many players. Those patterns are consistent with a Microsoft/Xbox or Minecraft service problem. Repeated reinstalls cannot repair an authentication outage.
Use official Xbox and Minecraft status channels for confirmation. A third-party outage monitor can show whether other players are reporting failures, but it is useful context rather than official proof of an outage.
When to contact support
Contact Minecraft, Microsoft, Xbox, or the affected server’s support team when the problem continues after the account, update, time, and network checks—or when the evidence points to a server-specific problem.

What this message does—and does not—prove
- It does not prove a ban. The message describes a failed validation attempt, not a confirmed enforcement action.
- It does not prove that your purchase vanished. Check Order History and the active account before repurchasing.
- It does not prove Minecraft is globally offline. One server may be down, under maintenance, or enforcing a different version requirement.
- It does not make third-party repair utilities necessary. Start with official account, operating-system, network, and support tools.
Optional Minecraft reference material
A Minecraft guide book can be useful for learning gameplay, multiplayer setup, and platform differences after the login problem is resolved. It will not repair Microsoft authentication, restore a license, or bypass a server outage, so treat it as supplementary reference material rather than a troubleshooting solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does “Sorry, we can’t validate your login” mean I was banned?
No. The message only says Minecraft could not complete account or session validation. A ban is one possibility only if you receive a separate enforcement notice; this error by itself is not proof of one.
How do I know whether I am using the account that owns Minecraft?
Check the Microsoft account signed into Minecraft, the Launcher, Microsoft Store, and Xbox app. Then verify the purchase in the account’s Order History or the original purchase-confirmation email.
Can an outdated Minecraft version cause this error?
Possibly. An outdated Bedrock client can be rejected by an individual featured server. Update Minecraft, but treat version requirements reported by a particular server as server-specific rather than universal.
Recommended Free Tools
Can my Wi-Fi, VPN, or DNS cause the login-validation error?
Yes, but only as a diagnostic step. VPNs, custom DNS, firewall rules, antivirus filters, restrictive NAT, or a blocked network path can interfere with authentication. Test another network and restore security protection after testing.
How can I tell whether Minecraft’s servers are down?
If Marketplace, Realms, and multiple servers fail on more than one device or network, a service outage or account-side issue is more likely. Check official service-status information and avoid repeated reinstalls while authentication services are unavailable.
The Bottom Line
In most cases, “Sorry, we can’t validate your login” is a temporary authentication or account-session failure. Fully restart Minecraft, sign out and back in, verify the owning Microsoft account, update the game, synchronize the clock, and test another network. If all online features fail across devices or networks, check service status and wait; if only one server fails, investigate that server’s version requirements and support information.
