GoldenEye 007 is not available as a 2023 release on PS5. The officially announced modern versions are for Xbox and Nintendo Switch, and the sources explaining those releases do not give a specific reason for leaving PlayStation out. The game’s rights are shared among several companies, which helps explain why re-releasing it required coordination—but does not establish that any one company blocked a PS5 version.
Which platforms got the 2023 release?
Nintendo announced GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members on January 26, 2023. The game originally debuted on Nintendo 64 in 1997. Nintendo’s release announcement identifies it as part of the Nintendo 64 collection.

Why isn’t it on PS5?
The exact reason is unknown. The official announcements identify Xbox and Nintendo platforms but do not explain why PlayStation was not included. The available evidence does not show that Sony rejected the game, that Nintendo vetoed a PlayStation release, or that any particular rights holder demanded an Xbox or Switch-only arrangement.

There is relevant context: a U.S. Copyright Office filing describes the 2023 Xbox and Nintendo reissue as a joint agreement involving Microsoft, Nintendo, Rare Limited, MGM, EON Productions, and Danjaq LLC. It also says the game’s complicated rights had held up earlier reissue efforts. The Copyright Office filing supports the conclusion that bringing the game back required coordination across multiple rights interests. It does not say that Sony was involved in negotiations or explain why a PS5 version was absent.
Nintendo’s release notice separately credits Nintendo and Rare and identifies Danjaq and MGM in connection with certain audiovisual components and James Bond indicia. Those credits illustrate the different interests attached to the game; they do not explain the platform list. Nintendo’s notice includes the copyright information.

Does the canceled Xbox 360 remaster explain the PS5 omission?
No. It is a separate historical episode, not evidence of why the 2023 release skipped PlayStation. Ars Technica interviewed former Rare developers Ross Bury and Mark Edmonds about a nearly completed Xbox 360 remaster that was canceled. Their recollections include a Nintendo objection in that project’s history, but they are not an official account from current rights holders and do not establish what happened in discussions about the 2023 release or PS5. Ars Technica’s retrospective concerns that canceled project.

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is a separate game, not a PS5 port of the 1997 Nintendo 64 original. Activision’s release material identifies Reloaded as its own James Bond game. Activision’s release page covers that title; it does not establish PS5 availability for the 2023 version.
If you want to play the original release, a Nintendo 64 cartridge is a physical option, but it requires Nintendo 64 hardware and cannot be played on PS5. Nintendo identifies the original game as a 1997 Nintendo 64 release. Nintendo’s announcement gives that release history.
