Yes—Ubisoft’s layoffs are still happening in 2026, and the company’s own figures show a continuing, multi-year rightsizing program rather than one isolated round. Ubisoft employed 16,590 people at the end of March 2026, about 1,200 fewer than a year earlier. In October, the company announced 70 planned cuts in Singapore and proposed closing RedLynx, which could affect up to 52 employees. The reductions are tied to a strategic reset: fewer projects, greater concentration on established franchises and recurring revenue, and a fixed-cost program scheduled to run through March 2028.
Why is Ubisoft laying off so many people?
Ubisoft says the cuts respond to a more selective AAA market, rising development costs, intense competition in shooters and the difficulty of building new brands. The company is also reducing the number of games and teams it funds at the same time, so a project cancellation or delay can remove an entire layer of staffing rather than just trimming a single department.

The January 2026 reset reorganized production and publishing around five Creative Houses, supported by a Creative Network, Core Services and a reshaped headquarters. The houses combine development and publishing responsibility around major properties such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six, The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, For Honor, The Crew, Anno, Prince of Persia and Just Dance. That structure is intended to concentrate investment on fewer franchises and maintain a steadier release cadence.
Ubisoft’s savings plan is a central driver. The company reported more than €200 million in annualized savings versus fiscal 2022–23 in its September 2024 half-year release, then set an additional €200 million reduction target in January 2026. Its stated goal is about €500 million in cumulative fixed-cost savings by March 2028, bringing fixed costs to an estimated €1.25 billion run-rate from €1.75 billion in fiscal 2022–23.

Are Ubisoft layoffs still happening in 2026?
Yes. The latest publicly reported actions are the October 2026 Singapore downsizing and the proposed RedLynx closure. They follow studio closures, restructurings and headquarters reductions announced earlier in the year.
October 2026: Singapore and RedLynx
Ubisoft planned to remove 70 positions at Ubisoft Singapore to align the studio with production needs. The studio is not being shut down; Ubisoft said it remains part of the company’s global production organization.

The proposal was subject to Finland’s mandatory change-negotiation process, so those jobs should not be counted as completed departures. Reporting said RedLynx had no current project and that resizing the studio alone was judged unsustainable.
June 2026: closures and a broader reduction wave
Reporting in June said Ubisoft was closing its Winnipeg and Belgrade studios, restructuring Barcelona around Rainbow Six and cutting roles in Global Publishing. That wave was reported as affecting up to 380 positions. Separate reporting described about 100 Red Storm job losses in March and up to 200 proposed reductions at Ubisoft’s Paris headquarters. These figures are reported or proposed totals, not a single confirmed company-wide count.

How much has Ubisoft’s workforce shrunk?
Ubisoft’s published headcount snapshots show a sustained decline:
| Reporting date | Employees worldwide | Change noted by Ubisoft |
|---|---|---|
| September 2023 | 19,410 | Baseline in the published comparison |
| September 2024 | 18,666 | Down 744 year over year; more than 2,000 lower over 24 months |
| March 2025 | 17,782 | Down about 1,230 year over year and about 3,000 from September 2022 |
| March 2026 | 16,590 | Down about 1,200 year over year |
These snapshots show net employment at particular dates. They do not identify every departure, and they include normal hiring, attrition, transfers and acquisitions alongside layoffs.

XDefiant and its studios
Ubisoft discontinued XDefiant on 3 December 2024 after concluding that it could not attract and retain enough players to compete in the free-to-play shooter market. The decision closed the San Francisco and Osaka production studios and began winding down Sydney. Ubisoft said 143 people were departing in San Francisco, while 134 were likely to depart across Osaka and Sydney.
The January 2026 portfolio reset
Ubisoft discontinued six games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and delayed seven others. Halifax and Stockholm were closed, while Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive were placed under restructuring plans. Fewer active projects mean fewer teams can be maintained while the company waits for a later release window.

What do Ubisoft’s financial results say about the pressure?
For fiscal 2025–26, Ubisoft reported €1,525.1 million in net bookings, down 17.4%, and an IFRS operating loss of €1,322.3 million. It reported €118 million in fixed-cost savings versus the previous fiscal year and about €325 million in cumulative reductions since fiscal 2022–23.
Ubisoft’s forecast calls for a lighter release slate in fiscal 2026–27, a cash-flow low point during that period and an expected rebound beginning in fiscal 2027–28 as a larger pipeline reaches market. The forecast explains why management is cutting costs now, but it does not guarantee that the recovery will prevent further workforce actions.
How should the different layoff numbers be interpreted?
There is no authoritative public figure for exactly how many people Ubisoft has laid off worldwide. Public statements combine completed closures, announced reductions, proposed cuts, consultation-stage plans, voluntary-departure programs and headcount snapshots taken months apart.
Eurofound’s European Restructuring Monitor lists 502 planned job losses for the tracked Ubisoft restructuring event after adding the October actions to the June wave. That is the clearest consolidated planning figure available, but it is not a verified total of completed departures and does not replace Ubisoft’s global headcount reports.

Is Ubisoft shutting down studios permanently?
Some closures are complete or reported as complete, while others remain proposals or restructurings. XDefiant’s San Francisco and Osaka production operations were closed, Sydney was wound down, and Halifax and Stockholm were announced as closed in the January reset. Winnipeg and Belgrade were reported closed in June, whereas RedLynx’s closure remained subject to Finland’s consultation process in October; Singapore was downsized rather than closed.
The pattern shows why “studio shutdown” and “layoff” are not interchangeable. A closure can include transfers, severance, voluntary departures and contractors, while a restructuring may leave a smaller studio operating around one franchise.
What happens next for Ubisoft employees and players?
Ubisoft’s final savings phase is scheduled to continue through March 2028, so restructuring pressure may persist while the company works toward its fixed-cost target. That does not establish that another specific layoff round will occur; it means the program’s timetable extends beyond the October announcements.
For players, the practical effect is a narrower portfolio and greater emphasis on established franchises and live-service ecosystems. A smaller number of projects can mean longer gaps between releases, but Ubisoft’s stated objective is to support a sustained cadence of higher-priority titles rather than maintain every project announced in earlier plans.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can Ubisoft report savings while posting a large operating loss?
Fixed-cost savings reduce the expense base over time, while an IFRS operating loss also reflects revenue timing, write-downs, development costs and other accounting items. A lower cost run-rate therefore does not guarantee a profitable quarter or fiscal year.
Are all of the announced Ubisoft reductions confirmed layoffs?
No. The public record includes completed closures, announced reductions, proposed positions, consultation-stage plans and voluntary-departure measures. Those categories have different legal status and should not be added together as if every job had already disappeared.

Ubisoft said it was working with Singapore’s Skills & Workforce Development Agency and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute to facilitate job placements. The company also acknowledged the impact on employees and said it valued both affected teams.
Why does the release schedule matter to Ubisoft’s staffing decisions?
A lighter near-term slate reduces the amount of production work available before the larger fiscal 2027–28 and 2028–29 pipeline arrives. Management is using that gap to consolidate teams and concentrate spending instead of carrying every project at full staffing.
