On April 26, 2015, GameSpot reproduced a notice from Konami’s official P.T. website. The notice said: “The distribution period of P.T. (Playable Teaser) on PlayStation Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.” That sentence established an end date for distribution, but it did not explain why the listing was being withdrawn.

The wording matters because it is the clearest official statement identified about the delisting. It confirms that the Store distribution period was scheduled to expire; it does not say that a licensing dispute, a technical problem, a sales decision or any other specific cause prompted the action.

No official reason was given in the notice
Contemporary coverage did not identify a separate Konami statement that supplied a reason. It is therefore inaccurate to present a particular explanation as confirmed policy. The safest conclusion is narrower: Konami announced the expiration, and the cited notice gave no reason for it.

How the Silent Hills cancellation fits the story
P.T. was a free, downloadable PlayStation 4 teaser for Silent Hills, the planned horror game associated with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. The teaser’s removal happened during the collapse of that project, so news reports naturally connected the two events.
That timing supplies important context, but context is not the same as an official explanation. Contemporary reporting linked the delisting to the cancellation of Silent Hills; Konami’s reproduced notice did not say, “We are removing P.T. because Silent Hills has been cancelled,” nor did it describe the internal decision-making. Any account that states the cancellation as Konami’s published reason goes beyond the evidence.
The distinction also explains why rumors about contracts, personnel disputes or licensing arrangements should be treated cautiously. Those subjects may appear in broader stories about the project, but they do not establish the reason for the Store takedown unless Konami directly documented that connection.

This sequence resolves an apparent contradiction in old articles. The April 30 report described a short-lived state immediately after the Store listing vanished. The May 6 reports described a later state in which the server-side download was disabled. Both reports can be accurate for the dates on which they were published.
Why having claimed P.T. did not preserve a download
Digital ownership is often discussed as though one status controls everything, but the historical reports distinguish several separate systems. A title can disappear from a public Store page while an account still displays an entitlement, and an entitlement can remain visible even when the server no longer delivers the content package.

The practical lesson is that an old library entry is not proof that a download server still exists. The account record and the content file are related, but they are not interchangeable. A user can retain evidence that P.T. was once associated with an account while receiving an error when the console tries to retrieve the game.
Could someone who claimed it before April 29 redownload it?
The brief window described on April 30
Yes, apparently for a short period. Game Informer’s April 30 report said that a person who had previously secured P.T. could select it in the console library and download it again. The publication said it tested the process, making this more than a purely speculative forum claim.
That report should be read as a time-specific observation, not as a permanent entitlement rule. It showed that the download path still worked immediately after the public distribution period ended for at least one tested claimant. It did not establish that every account would succeed, that the servers would remain available, or that the behavior would continue after April 30.
The May 6 server-side change
Within the following week, the situation had changed. On May 6, GameSpot reported that P.T. was no longer downloadable from PlayStation’s servers, even when the player had previously added it to the library. Game Informer separately reported Konami confirmation that the teaser had been fully removed.
For the historical question, the later evidence is decisive. A prior claimant may have been able to redownload during the short interval covered by the April 30 report, but by May 6 the normal PlayStation download flow was no longer available to those claimants.

Can P.T. still be downloaded through official channels?
What the evidence supports
The evidence supports a no for normal official redownload. The title is not treated as an ordinary Store download, and the later 2015 reports specifically said that even prior claimants could no longer retrieve it from PlayStation’s servers.
This answer is about the standard account-and-server process: opening the library, selecting P.T. and asking PlayStation to download the package. The reports do not provide a current account-by-account test, so it would be misleading to promise that every console will display exactly the same error or menu state today. They do establish that the official redownload route was disabled in May 2015.
What an old library entry does and does not prove
- It may show historical ownership: an account can retain a record that the teaser was previously added.
- It does not guarantee a transferable file: the download package must still be available from the service that delivers it.
- It does not prove a console has a working installation: a listing in a library is different from data already stored on the hard drive.
- It does not establish that another account can obtain the game: the reports concerned people who had claimed it before removal.
What about copies that were already installed?
The cited reporting does not settle the present-day status of every installation. A copy that remained on a console after the servers stopped offering downloads is a different case from a user trying to install the game again. The evidence here neither verifies that all retained installations still launch nor says that all of them fail.
Several variables could affect an individual console without changing the historical conclusion: whether the original storage device was replaced, whether the game was deleted, whether the account was changed, and whether the system is the same one on which the teaser was installed. None of those scenarios creates a documented official recovery path. They simply explain why two owners might see different local results.
If P.T. is already installed, deleting it is consequential because the normal server download was reported as unavailable. The available evidence does not promise that reinstalling, transferring or restoring the game will work after removal. Owners should therefore avoid treating an installed copy as easily replaceable software.

What about unofficial recovery methods?
Various community claims have circulated about moving hard drives, using backups or modifying consoles. The evidence summarized here does not verify any of those methods, their legality, their safety or their ability to produce a playable copy. They should not be presented as an established answer to whether P.T. can still be downloaded.
There is also no basis here for recommending a particular file, seller, download site or account-transfer service. A file offered outside the official PlayStation system could be incomplete, altered, malicious or tied to an account the user does not control. Even if a workaround appears to function for one person, that result would not overturn the documented fact that Konami’s official distribution ended and that server redownload was later disabled.
For a reader deciding whether to follow an online guide, the useful questions are practical rather than promotional:
- Does the guide identify a legitimate source for the game data?
- Does it explain what happens to the user’s account, console warranty and saved data?
- Is the result independently documented for the same PlayStation model and system software?
- Does it distinguish restoring an existing local backup from downloading the game from PlayStation’s servers?
None of these checks turns an unofficial method into an officially supported one. They simply prevent a rumor about one successful setup from being mistaken for a guaranteed download option.

Older stories often appear inconsistent because they were written during a rapidly changing service state. Use the publication date and the specific action being described.

- Check whether the story reports a test or a prediction. Game Informer’s April 30 article described a tested redownload, whereas later reports described server removal.

The distinction is important because the title’s disappearance is often discussed as a mystery with a single definitive explanation.
