Activision’s current account-management guidance allows you to unlink an individual platform account once every 12 months. If your request is refused, the public guidance does not say why that particular request failed. It does describe two policy reasons a request can be blocked: an account under active enforcement may be restricted from unlinking, and requests may be denied when suspicious login or unlinking activity is detected. Below is what each cause means, how to tell them apart, and what to do next.
What the official rules say
Activision’s account-management page sets the core rule: you may unlink an individual platform account once every 12 months. The limit applies per platform account, so unlinking one console or store account does not reset the clock for another.
The linked-provider list on the account page has changed between versions. The current page names PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Blizzard, and Nintendo, while an earlier version also listed Ubisoft. If you are trying to unlink an account from a provider that is not on the page you are looking at, check the version you are viewing before assuming the option is unavailable.

Activision Support, Managing Your Activision Account (earlier version). A denial under this wording does not prove that an enforcement action or suspicious activity exists on your account. It only tells you that these are the published conditions under which a request can be blocked.

Why a request can be refused
Four separate situations can produce a failed unlink. They look similar from the outside, but each has a different fix.

Because the published guidance does not state which of these applies to a given account, Support is the only route that can confirm the actual reason.

Steps to take when unlinking fails
- Sign in to the Activision account that currently has the platform account linked. Open the ACCOUNT LINKING section, select UNLINK beside the platform account, confirm, and continue. Trying from a different Activision account will not work, because the link is tied to the account it was made on.
- Check the 12-month window. If you unlinked this platform account within the past 12 months, the request will be refused by design. Record the date so you know when the next attempt is allowed.
- If you cannot sign in, use the recovery route for your situation. Activision describes signing in through a linked platform account and updating account credentials. If the account email is inaccessible, contact your email provider first. If you still cannot restore access, contact Activision Support.
- If the unlink control is missing or the request is refused, open Activision Support, use the issue selector, and choose “I can’t unlink an account.” Support can review the account and tell you whether a restriction applies.
- If an account you do not recognize is linked, or you see suspicious activity, unlink the unrecognized account, change your password, and use Activision’s hacked-account recovery if the problem continues. Do this before retrying the unlink on any other account, since suspicious activity is one of the published reasons for denial.
What happens to your progress
Cross-progression games store progress on the Activision account, not on the platform account. If a platform account is linked to a different Activision account, its progress will not carry over to that other account.
Progress and owned content are not lost. Relinking the platform account to the original Activision account restores access to that progression and content. Unlinking does not move progress into a new Activision account, so do not expect a fresh account to inherit it.

Phrasing that matches Support’s menu
If you search Activision’s help pages or open a ticket, these phrasings match the options Support offers:
- “I can’t unlink an account”
- “I don’t have access to the email for my Activision Account”
- “My Activision account was hacked”
The hacked-account recovery guidance routes linking and unlinking problems to the account-management article and asks you to submit a support ticket if you need further help.
