DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO does not currently advertise general cross-play. Bandai Namco states that the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions cannot play together, and its official pages do not promise matchmaking between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo hardware. As of the official materials reviewed on October 8, 2026, no broader cross-play support has been announced.
Switch and Switch 2 cannot play together
This is the one compatibility limit the publisher states explicitly. Bandai Namco Entertainment’s official Japanese product page for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 releases says that Switch 2 software and Switch software cannot cross-play. The statement covers local communication play as well as online play, so a Switch 2 owner and a Switch owner cannot link up on either route.

If your group is split between the two Nintendo consoles, you will need everyone on the same Nintendo version to play together.
PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam: no cross-play announced
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam are all listed as current platforms in Bandai Namco’s official materials, and the publisher describes online multiplayer for the game. Those pages, however, do not list which platform pairings can match with each other. They also do not state that PS5 cannot play with Xbox or Steam as a publisher policy.

The accurate position is therefore that cross-platform play between these systems is not announced. It is neither confirmed nor ruled out in a permanent sense, and the publisher has not said whether it plans to add it.

Online play is not the same as cross-platform play
Several official references mention multiplayer, and it is easy to read them as implying matchmaking across systems. They do not. The Japanese specification lists online play for one to two players on Switch and Switch 2. That figure describes how many players can take part in an online session on each system, not whether those systems can meet each other.

Bandai Namco’s Nintendo Switch launch announcement also describes local and online multiplayer. Local play means players in the same room on the same system, and it is a separate question from cross-platform online matchmaking.
Why the Nintendo versions are handled separately
A November 7, 2025 notice from Bandai Namco Europe, titled “Notice Regarding the Updated Version and Split-Screen Versus Play Using a Single Console,” shows that the Nintendo version was treated as its own release. According to that notice, the Nintendo version includes updates distributed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam through January 21, 2025, and later changes will be applied to the Nintendo version through future updates.

That notice documents version differences at the time it was published. It does not, on its own, establish every matchmaking boundary between platforms, so use the platform pairing table above as the current position rather than inferring rules from update timing.
What to do if your friends are on different systems
- List the platform each player will use: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Steam.
- If any two players are on Switch and Switch 2, they cannot play together, online or locally.
- If your group spans platforms that are not Nintendo, do not assume that you can match online. Cross-play is not announced for those combinations.
- To play together reliably, have everyone on the same platform, or on the same Nintendo version if you are using Nintendo hardware.
- Before buying, check Bandai Namco’s official pages for DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, because platform support and online features can change with updates.
Choosing a version for shared play
If the main reason you want the game is to play with a particular group, the platform they already own should decide your purchase. For readers evaluating the Nintendo options, the Nintendo Switch edition and the Nintendo Switch 2 edition are both current, but they are not interchangeable for multiplayer. Pick the version that matches the console your regular opponents use.
