No. Deleting a game from your PS5 removes its installed files to free storage; it does not remove access to a digital game you bought. You can download that game again from the library on the account that owns it. A disc game can be installed again by inserting its disc. Saved data is managed separately, so make sure you delete the game—not its save—if you want to preserve your progress.
What deleting a PS5 game removes
Deleting a game or app removes its installed game/application data from console storage. It is different from deleting saved data, and it does not undo a digital purchase. PlayStation Support confirms that deleted games and applications remain accessible and that purchases can be downloaded again from the game library: PlayStation’s PS5 storage-management guide.

This answer applies to removing installed files from storage. Account access problems, a game being delisted, license issues, or a publisher ending online services are separate matters and may affect whether a game can be downloaded or played.

- Open Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps.
- Select the game or application you want to remove, then choose Delete.
- Check that you are in the game/application storage controls, not the saved-data controls.
Saved data has its own menu: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4). The options there include uploading or deleting saved data from console storage. Avoid choosing a delete option in that menu if you want to keep the local save.

How to reinstall a deleted game
Digital game
Sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the game, open your game library, select the title, and download it again. Re-downloading requires access to the owning account and an available download; deleting the installed copy does not transfer ownership to another account.
Disc game
Insert the game disc to install it again. You need to keep the disc, and the console must have a compatible disc drive. The disc may also be required to launch the game.

Protecting saved data before you remove a game
If you want an extra copy of your progress, check the save’s sync status before relying on cloud recovery. PlayStation Plus cloud storage can upload and download PS5 and PS4 saved data, but a save that has not uploaded may not be available to restore. See PlayStation’s cloud-storage instructions for the service and sync controls.

PlayStation lists cloud-storage limits of up to 100 GB of PS5 saved data and 100 GB of PS4 saved data, with a limit of 1,000 PS4 save files. PlayStation does not state a publication year for those figures on the cited support page. Cloud availability is not a guarantee that a particular game’s online progress or server-side data can be recovered; behavior varies by game.

| Option | What it means | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Delete and reinstall a digital game | Remove its installed files, then download it again from the library. | Use the account that owns the game and allow time and storage for another download. |
| Delete and reinstall a disc game | Remove the install, then install again from the disc. | Keep the disc and use a console with a compatible disc drive. |
| USB extended storage | Store game data on an external USB drive. | PS5 games stored on USB extended storage must be moved to console storage or M.2 storage to play. |
| Compatible M.2 SSD | Add internal storage for PS5 game data. | The SSD must meet PlayStation’s requirements. It is optional; it is not needed to retain access to a digital purchase. |
For USB and M.2 storage details and current compatibility requirements, use PlayStation’s storage guide. PlayStation’s transfer guidance also distinguishes saves from game installs: PS5 saved data cannot be copied to USB, so do not treat a USB drive as a backup route for PS5 saves.
