Open a layout
- Move the pointer over a window’s maximize button. Windows 11 displays the available layouts, with different numbers and shapes of zones depending on your display.
- Choose a zone for the current window. The remaining zones appear as suggestions through Snap Assist.
- Select another window from the suggestions to fill the next zone, and continue until the layout is complete.
You can also press Win+Z to open the layout chooser without touching the mouse. For direct placement, drag a window to the left or right edge, a corner, or the top of the display. Dragging to the top is documented as a Windows 11 version 22H2 capability.
Restore a complete workspace

How do I turn on and use Clipboard history?
Clipboard history keeps multiple copied items instead of replacing the previous item every time you press Copy. It is useful for game commands, configuration snippets, chat replies, URLs and troubleshooting steps that you need to paste repeatedly.
- Press Win+V.
- Select Turn on when Windows asks to enable clipboard history.
- Copy text normally. Press Win+V again to see recent entries, then select one to paste it.
- Use the controls beside an entry to pin it for reuse or delete it. Pinned items remain available until you remove them.
Sync text between your PCs
For text to follow you across Windows devices, open Settings > System > Clipboard and enable clipboard history across devices. The PCs must use the same Microsoft account or the same work account; this is not a universal transfer channel for unrelated accounts. The setting is best for short text that you intentionally reuse, not for moving large files.

Clear copied data
You can remove individual entries from the history panel or clear clipboard data from the Clipboard page in Settings. Clear it after handling passwords, license keys or private messages, especially on a shared gaming PC. Clipboard history is an implementation feature with operational limits documented by Microsoft, so avoid treating it as permanent storage.
What does a Windows 11 Focus session do?
Focus is a built-in interruption control. A session can enable Do not disturb, hide taskbar badges and flashing, show a countdown timer and notify you when the period ends.
Start Focus from Settings
- Open Settings > System > Focus.
- Choose the session length and start it.
- Enable the options for Do not disturb, hiding taskbar badges or suppressing flashing if you want a quieter desktop.
Use the Clock app
You can also start and configure a session through the Clock app, which provides the timer controls. If Clock was uninstalled, Microsoft says it must be reinstalled before Focus can be used through that app. Focus does not pause a game’s network activity or mute in-game audio; it targets Windows notifications and taskbar distractions, so configure those separately inside the game or launcher when necessary.
Can Windows 11 be controlled by voice without an internet connection?
Yes. Voice access provides hands-free PC control and dictation after its language model is installed. Microsoft describes it as a Windows 11 feature that lets everyone control a PC and author text using only their voice and without an internet connection. It is available in Windows 11 version 22H2 and later.
Set up Voice access
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Speech.
- Turn on Voice access.
- Complete the initial language and microphone setup and allow the required language model to install.
- Use spoken commands to open or switch apps, navigate webpages, read and author email, and dictate text.
Voice access is especially practical when your hands are occupied with a controller, when a temporary injury makes keyboard use difficult, or when dictating notes while testing a game. Recognition quality still depends on microphone placement, language selection and background noise.

What is Voice Isolation?
A July 2026 preview release note describes Voice Isolation, background-noise filtering and a no-filtering mode in Voice access speech-recognition settings. Because that information comes from a preview release, treat these controls as servicing-level dependent: they may not appear on every stable Windows 11 installation.
How does Nearby sharing transfer files between Windows PCs?
Nearby sharing sends documents, photos and links between nearby Windows PCs using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It is designed for local transfers, not remote access over the internet.
- Enable Nearby sharing on both computers from Settings > System > Nearby sharing, or open Quick Settings and turn it on there.
- Choose whether to share with Everyone nearby or only Your devices. The narrower option is safer in a shared space.
- In File Explorer, select a file and use the Windows share control. For a link or photo, use that item’s Windows share control and choose the nearby PC.
- Accept the incoming transfer on the receiving computer.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support are required on both PCs. Wi-Fi is preferable for larger transfers when the computers are connected to the same network; Bluetooth is useful for discovering nearby devices and handling smaller items. If a PC does not appear, check that Nearby sharing is enabled on both machines, they are physically close, and neither adapter is disabled.
What does Microsoft PowerToys add to Windows 11?

Which hidden features help most in a gaming PC setup?
Choose based on the bottleneck you encounter rather than enabling everything. The following combinations cover common gaming-desk tasks without adding unnecessary background tools.
- Game plus chat and guide: Use Snap or FancyZones to reserve stable areas for the game-support windows. Borderless-window mode may be required because some exclusive-fullscreen games do not participate in desktop layouts.
- Repeated commands or configuration edits: Clipboard history keeps several snippets available, while pinning preserves the ones you use every session.
- Competitive or story-focused play: Start Focus to suppress Windows notification badges and flashes before launching the game.

Snap layouts are missing
- Confirm you are using Windows 11 and that Snap is enabled under Settings > System > Multitasking.
- Try Win+Z instead of the maximize-button flyout.
- Update Windows if top-edge dragging or other 22H2-era behavior is absent.
Clipboard history is empty
- Press Win+V and select Turn on; copying before activation does not populate a history.
- For synchronization, verify that every device uses the same Microsoft or work account and that the cross-device option is enabled.
- Remember that clearing the clipboard or removing an entry cannot be undone.
Voice access cannot hear you
- Check the selected microphone and language in Settings > Accessibility > Speech.
- Finish installing the language model; offline operation depends on that local model.
- Reduce background noise and check microphone permissions before testing commands.
Nearby sharing cannot find the other PC
- Turn the feature on for both computers and select an appropriate visibility option.
- Confirm Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are available and enabled on both systems.
- Move the PCs closer and place them on the same Wi-Fi network for larger transfers.
Focus controls are unavailable
Start from Settings > System > Focus if the Clock app is missing. Reinstall Clock if you specifically need its Focus session interface.

Can Windows 11 Snap layouts work with three monitors?
Yes, each monitor can use its own Snap layout, and windows can be moved between displays. The exact layout choices depend on display size, resolution and scaling, so the flyout may differ from one monitor to another.
Does clipboard history save copied files as well as text?
Clipboard history is primarily intended for copied text and supported image content; it is not a file-transfer archive. Use File Explorer sharing or Nearby sharing when you need to move an actual file between PCs.
Can Voice access understand commands while a game is running?
It can control other Windows apps when the desktop and microphone remain available, but a game may capture input or run in exclusive full-screen mode. Test it in the game’s display mode and assign in-game voice-chat controls separately.
Will Nearby sharing use my internet data plan?
