Witchbrook is scheduled for digital release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, at an announced launch price of $24.99. That does not mean a US pre-order is open: check the listing for your console and Nintendo Account region, and proceed only if Nintendo offers Proceed to pre-order. The game’s estimated size is about 1.2 GB on the US Nintendo listing, but estimates differ by region. Here’s how to check availability, understand the download timing, and make room without confusing an ordinary Switch microSD card with Switch 2 storage.
Can I pre-order Witchbrook on Switch yet?
Do not assume you can. Chucklefish announced a January 28, 2027 digital launch for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but the regional listing evidence does not establish that US pre-orders are open. Nintendo Australia’s Switch listing showed Wish list now, while the retrieved US Switch 2 listing identified a digital edition without exposing an actionable pre-order button. Those are observations of particular listings, not a guarantee that every country or console version has the same status.

To check your own availability:
- Open Nintendo eShop on your Switch or use Nintendo’s website, then search for Witchbrook.
- Confirm the listing is for the console generation you own. Nintendo has listings for both Switch and Switch 2; a page labelled for Switch 2 is not, by itself, confirmation that you selected the original Switch version.
- Check that the Nintendo Account and eShop region match the region whose listing and price you intend to use.
- Read the action shown on the listing. A Wish list control saves the item to a list; it is not an order. Start a pre-order only if the page offers Nintendo’s Proceed to pre-order button, then follow the checkout prompts.
Nintendo’s pre-order instructions describe that process for eligible games generally. The instructions do not confirm Witchbrook’s availability in a particular eShop. No pre-order opening date, retailer, or bonus has been announced in the cited information.

What is confirmed about the release?
Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality announced on October 27, 2026: “Witchbrook is coming on January 28th, 2027 to PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5.” Nintendo’s US listing also gives January 28, 2027. This is a scheduled release date, not confirmation that the game has shipped. The publisher has announced a digital launch price of $24.99; that is the announced price, not a promise that every regional eShop will display the same amount in local currency.
Older Witchbrook pages may still show earlier 2026 timing. Use the January 28, 2027 date from the publisher’s current release announcement and the Nintendo listing when planning a purchase. A date on a retailer page, social post, or old screenshot should not override the current platform listing.

What happens after I place a pre-order?
Nintendo says eligible digital pre-orders are charged no earlier than seven days before release. After payment, the system pre-loads the game, but a pre-load is not a playable early-access copy.
- Checkout: Complete the Nintendo checkout only after the listing gives you the pre-order option. Review the displayed version, region, and amount before confirming.
- Payment window: Nintendo says the payment is processed no earlier than seven days before release. That rule does not establish an exact Witchbrook charge date or time.
- Pre-load: After payment, the game can download before launch. It appears on the HOME Menu but remains unavailable to play until the release and a small unlock update.
- Launch: Connect the console to the internet when the game becomes available so it can receive the unlock update. The general Nintendo guidance does not promise an exact Witchbrook unlock time.
Nintendo allows cancellation before payment and pre-load. If payment fails, the pre-order can be cancelled. Check Nintendo’s current pre-order support page for the applicable account and cancellation details rather than treating the general seven-day rule as a Witchbrook-specific schedule.
Because Nintendo’s rule says “no earlier than seven days,” a charge could occur later than that threshold depending on Nintendo’s processing. Keep the payment method valid during the period in which Nintendo may process the order. If a pre-order is cancelled after a failed payment, you would need to purchase the released game again rather than assuming the pre-load will become playable.
What do I need to download Witchbrook?
For a digital purchase or pre-order download, have access to the Nintendo Account and eShop you intend to use, an internet connection, and enough free storage on the console or supported storage card. You do not need Nintendo Switch Online just to download the game or play its solo mode; the paid membership applies to online play.

That means the listed local mode is for one player; the online player count is not a promise of local couch co-op. Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online play. Neither online membership nor extra storage should be treated as a requirement for solo play.
If you buy a released digital title rather than pre-ordering, Nintendo says its download begins after purchase. A pre-order follows the payment and pre-load sequence above. Nintendo’s general digital pre-order guide explains the eligible-title flow, while the title’s own eShop listing is the place to verify Witchbrook’s current status.
Before starting, plug in the console or make sure it has sufficient battery, use a reliable internet connection, and close software that may compete for bandwidth. These are practical precautions rather than Witchbrook-specific requirements. The decisive checks are account access, eShop availability, internet access, and free storage.

How big is Witchbrook on Switch?
The US Nintendo listing estimates 1.2 GB for each Switch generation. Nintendo Australia’s listing estimates 1.1 GB for each. These are regional listing estimates, not confirmed final installed sizes or measurements of a released game; consult your own eShop page and leave some extra room for updates.
| Listing | Original Nintendo Switch | Nintendo Switch 2 | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| US Nintendo listing, observed October 2026 | 1.2 GB estimated | 1.2 GB estimated | Regional estimate; not a final measured installed size |
| Nintendo Australia listing, observed October 2026 | 1.1 GB estimated | 1.1 GB estimated | Regional estimate; not a final measured installed size |
The figures differ by region, but that alone is not evidence of different game builds. Nintendo’s US product listing and Australian Switch listing are the relevant checks for those regional estimates. No final game size or independent performance measurement is established here. Do not buy a storage card solely because of the estimate: first check how much space your console actually has available and account for your other downloads.
Allow more room than the displayed estimate when planning. Updates, downloadable content, or system overhead can change the free-space requirement, and Nintendo labels both regional figures as estimates. The listing in your own eShop is the best current figure for your account and console version.
How do I check or free storage on an original Switch?
On an original Switch, including Lite and OLED models, check available room at System Settings > Data Management. Nintendo’s system tools let you archive or delete downloaded software, or move eligible software between the console and a compatible microSD card.
Archive a game to free space but keep its HOME icon
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Data Management, then Manage Software.
- Choose software you are not currently playing and select Archive Software. Quick Archive is available for handling multiple titles.
Archiving removes downloaded software, freeing its occupied storage, while retaining the game’s HOME Menu icon. Select that icon later to download the software again. Archive is useful when you want to keep a visible reminder of a game without keeping its download on the console.
Archiving does not create a second copy and does not turn a game into a playable shortcut. You still need an internet connection and sufficient space to redownload the software. Keep the Nintendo Account that purchased the title available, because the account and virtual-game-card checks are part of Nintendo’s redownload process.
Delete software or move it to a card
Deleting downloaded software also removes its HOME Menu icon. Nintendo says deleting or archiving software does not delete its save data, so those actions are distinct from erasing a game’s progress. If you want the game installed but stored on removable media, use System Settings > Data Management > Move Data Between System / microSD Card for eligible existing software.
Archive and delete both remove the downloaded program; the difference is whether the HOME icon remains. Moving keeps eligible software installed while changing where its program data is stored. None of these actions should be confused with deleting save data, which is a separate operation. Confirm the selected title before accepting a delete or move command, especially if several family profiles use the console.
Original Switch models accept microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards. Nintendo specifies microSDXC support up to 2 TB and says a system update is required to use microSDXC. Downloadable software can be stored on the card, but game saves remain in system memory. An ordinary Nintendo Switch microSDXC card may be useful if your existing free space or broader game library calls for it; it is not established as necessary for Witchbrook’s estimated footprint.

Expansion is therefore a library-management choice, not an automatic Witchbrook expense. Check the number in Data Management first. A card makes more sense if several large downloads compete for space; for a console with ample free room, the estimated 1.1–1.2 GB listing may not justify a purchase by itself.
Does Switch 2 use the same microSD card?
No. Nintendo Switch 2 requires a microSD Express card for removable storage of downloadable games. A regular microSD card used with an original Switch cannot serve as Switch 2 game storage simply because it fits the general microSD category.
Check that the product is explicitly marked microSD Express before buying. Nintendo says supported microSD Express cards can be up to 2 TB. Switch 2 has 256 GB of built-in storage, with some of that capacity reserved for system use; usable space will therefore be less than the headline capacity.
This is the key purchasing distinction: an original-Switch microSDXC card and a Switch 2 microSD Express card are not interchangeable for game storage. Do not rely on packaging that only says “microSD.” Look for the Express standard and confirm compatibility with Switch 2. Nintendo has not established that Witchbrook requires an Express card; the card is relevant only if the console’s available space and wider library make expansion useful.
Move eligible software on Switch 2
For installed software that can be moved, use System Settings > Data Management > Move System / microSD Express Card Data. Not all data is movable: some update data and game saves cannot be moved. Nintendo’s support FAQ states, “Game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card.” Save data stays in system memory, and deleting downloaded software does not delete save data.
Because some data remains on the system, the card’s advertised capacity is not a promise that every Witchbrook-related file can be transferred. Follow the move tool’s eligibility result rather than assuming a whole title will relocate. If you remove downloaded software to make room, Nintendo’s save-data rule still applies: deleting the program does not erase progress.
As on the original Switch, expansion is an option rather than a requirement established by the Witchbrook estimate. Check the free space in Data Management first. If you do need expansion for Switch 2 game downloads, choose a Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card, not an ordinary microSD card.
What if a purchased game does not appear or download?
Start with Nintendo’s general download checks; these are not evidence of a Witchbrook-specific fault. Nintendo recommends checking the HOME Menu download indicator, internet connection, free storage, and Virtual Game Cards.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Look for the download indicator on the HOME Menu and allow an in-progress download to finish.
- Confirm the console is connected to the internet.
- Open System Settings > Data Management and check for enough free space. Archive or delete other downloaded software if you need room, remembering that deleting removes the software icon while save data remains.
- Check Virtual Game Cards for a title that can be redownloaded.
- Verify that you are viewing the same Nintendo Account that made the purchase and that the listing corresponds to your console generation and region.
Nintendo’s missing or unplayable downloaded software guidance covers this general route. If Witchbrook has not yet released, a pre-loaded copy is expected to remain non-playable until its release and unlock update; that is different from a failed download.

A missing HOME icon does not necessarily mean the purchase disappeared. A title may need to be redownloaded, may be archived, or may be available through Virtual Game Cards. Check the indicator and Data Management before purchasing again. If the listing still offers only a wish-list control, there is no completed pre-order to download.
Can an eShop Card pay for Witchbrook?
Nintendo documents eShop Cards as a way to add funds to a Nintendo Account balance. You can use an available balance toward a purchase when the card and account region are compatible, but the balance must cover the checkout total shown for your region. A card is a general funding method, not a Witchbrook-specific voucher or confirmed discount.
Check the displayed currency and final amount before confirming. The announced $24.99 price is for the digital launch and should not be treated as a universal conversion. An eShop Card also does not change whether a regional listing has opened pre-orders.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShould I wait for a physical edition?
Chucklefish has announced physical Standard and Collector’s Editions for after the initial digital launch, but has not specified their platforms or detailed availability. The announcement does not establish that either edition will be available on Switch, that orders are open, or that a particular edition includes a full game card.
If a physical Switch edition matters to your decision, wait for the publisher to identify supported platforms and order details before treating it as a launch-day alternative. The currently specified Switch launch is digital. The publisher’s release-date announcement is the relevant source for any future clarification.
Do not infer a cartridge, download code, retailer bonus, or release-day stock from the words “Standard” or “Collector’s.” Those details have not been established. A later physical listing may also specify a different platform or format, so verify that it explicitly supports the Switch generation you own.
What should I do before launch?
- Search the eShop for the version matching your console and check the actual order button in your region.
- Use the price shown for your own region at checkout; the announced $24.99 digital launch price is not a universal currency conversion.
- Check free storage in Data Management and use archive, delete, or move options according to whether you want to retain the icon or keep the software installed.
- Choose removable storage only if your space needs call for it: original Switch uses compatible microSD formats, while Switch 2 game storage requires microSD Express.
- For online play with up to four players, plan for Nintendo Switch Online; solo play does not require that membership.
- If you pre-order, keep the payment method valid during Nintendo’s possible payment window and leave the console connected so the pre-load and launch update can complete.
- On release day, distinguish a non-playable pre-load from a failed download: the pre-loaded icon can remain locked until the scheduled release and a small unlock update.

Can I put an original Switch microSD card in Switch 2?
A regular card may fit physically, but Nintendo requires microSD Express for Switch 2 downloadable-game storage. An ordinary original-Switch microSD or microSDXC card should not be treated as Switch 2 game storage.
Is a 2 TB card required?
No. Nintendo lists support up to 2 TB for original-Switch microSDXC and Switch 2 microSD Express cards, but Witchbrook’s estimated 1.1–1.2 GB footprint does not establish a need for that capacity. Buy expansion only after checking your actual free space and library.
Will a physical cartridge be available on January 28?
That has not been confirmed. Standard and Collector’s physical editions are planned after the initial digital launch, with platforms, order timing, and format still unspecified.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a Nintendo eShop Card to pay for Witchbrook?
Nintendo documents eShop Cards as a way to add funds to an account balance. Whether that balance covers the full purchase depends on the amount available and the checkout total shown for your region.
Will the US and Australian size estimates mean different Witchbrook versions?
The listings establish different regional estimates, not different content or builds. The available figures do not explain why the displayed estimates vary.
Will Witchbrook be available on a physical Switch cartridge on launch day?
A launch-day Switch cartridge has not been confirmed. The announced Standard and Collector’s physical editions are planned for after the digital launch, and their platforms and formats have not been specified.
When will Nintendo charge a Witchbrook pre-order?
For eligible digital pre-orders, Nintendo says payment is processed no earlier than seven days before release. That establishes a earliest window, not an exact Witchbrook charge date.
Can I play a Witchbrook pre-load early?
No. Nintendo says a pre-loaded game appears on the HOME Menu but remains non-playable until release and a small unlock update.
Do I need extra storage for Witchbrook?
Not necessarily. The US listing estimates 1.2 GB and the Australian listing 1.1 GB for each Switch generation. Check your own eShop estimate and free space before buying a card.
What is the difference between archive and delete?
Both remove downloaded software without deleting save data. Archive retains the HOME Menu icon for redownloading; delete removes the icon.
Does Switch 2 save data move to the microSD Express card?
Nintendo says game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card. Save data remains in system memory even when eligible software is moved.
The Bottom Line
Check your own regional Nintendo listing rather than assuming Witchbrook pre-orders are open. The digital launch is scheduled for January 28, 2027 at an announced $24.99, with regional pricing and final size still subject to the eShop page. Plan around the estimated 1.1–1.2 GB download, archive or move existing software when needed, and remember that original Switch uses compatible microSD formats while Switch 2 requires microSD Express for downloadable-game storage.
