In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, use Reforge to give an equipped armor piece the appearance of another armor item while keeping its combat stats. First complete the Master Armorers questline to unlock Yoana at Crow’s Perch; then use her Reforge service to choose an appearance you have already acquired or registered. This built-in feature is specific to Remastered, not the original pre-Remastered release.
What is Reforge in The Witcher 3?
Reforge is the Remastered edition’s appearance-over-stats system for equipment. It changes the visible model of the armor item you select without changing that item’s combat statistics. In practical terms, you can keep the armor that works for your build and display the design of another armor item you prefer. You do not have to choose between a useful stat profile and a more attractive set.

CD PROJEKT RED described the feature this way: “You can now Reforge your equipment to change its appearance without affecting its stats.” That sentence captures the important distinction. Reforge is not an upgrade, a replacement, or a way to reroll armor attributes. It is an appearance operation applied to an existing piece of equipment.
The appearance is not a free choice from every armor design in the game. You need to have acquired or registered the look you want to use. Reforge changes the selected item’s visual model; it does not replace the process of obtaining the source armor or its relevant diagram. If a design is not in your available appearance collection, Yoana cannot simply create it from a menu.

Because the service works on the item you select, it is useful for both small adjustments and complete outfit planning. You can change only Geralt’s chest piece, for example, or work through every armor slot one by one for a coordinated look. The feature does not imply that one confirmation automatically changes the rest of the outfit.
Is Reforge available in every version of The Witcher 3?
No. Reforge is a feature of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. The original pre-Remastered release did not include official, built-in appearance-over-stats customization. That edition offered dyes for recoloring eligible armor, but it did not provide the same in-game model-swapping service.

If you are playing the older release and search every blacksmith for Reforge, there may be no quest, menu, or merchant interaction to unlock. In that version, changing an armor model independently of its statistics required mods rather than an official service. Dyes could alter color, but they were not a substitute for a full visual-model change.
If you are buying or reinstalling the game specifically for this feature, look for the Remastered edition rather than assuming that every copy of The Witcher 3 has the same customization menu. The built-in route described here is tied to the Remastered version.
What do you need before changing Geralt’s armor appearance?
Before visiting Yoana, make sure you meet each of these requirements:
- The correct edition: You must be playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered.
- The Master Armorers questline: Start and complete the questline obtained through the blacksmith at Crow’s Perch.
- Yoana unlocked: Completion makes Yoana available as the master armorer who handles armor Reforge.
- An available appearance: Acquire the source armor or relevant diagram and ensure the desired look is acquired or registered in your appearance collection.
- A selected target item: Reforge is applied to a particular equipped armor piece, not to an abstract outfit setting.
These requirements solve different parts of the problem. Owning the Remastered edition provides the feature, while the Master Armorers questline provides the correct service provider. Neither one automatically unlocks every armor appearance. The appearance you want must still be available in your collection.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
It helps to decide what you are changing before opening the service. Geralt’s chest armor, gloves, trousers, and boots are separate pieces for this purpose. Knowing the target slot prevents confusion when the menu asks you to select an armor item.
How do you unlock Yoana’s Reforge service?
- Go to Crow’s Perch. The Master Armorers questline is obtained through the blacksmith there.
- Start the Master Armorers questline. Follow the quest objectives rather than expecting Reforge to appear immediately after meeting a random armorer.
- Complete the questline. The service becomes available after the quest is completed, not merely after it is accepted.
- Return to Yoana. She is the master armorer responsible for armor Reforge once the questline has unlocked her service.
Yoana’s role is specific. She is the person to visit for Geralt’s armor appearance. The questline is therefore both an unlock requirement and a way to identify the correct NPC. If you have finished other crafting quests but have not completed Master Armorers, that progress does not by itself establish that Yoana’s Reforge service is active.
How do you change Geralt’s armor look without dyes?
Once Yoana is unlocked and the desired design is available, use this sequence:

- Confirm that you are in Remastered. Reforge is not part of the original pre-Remastered release.
- Complete Master Armorers at Crow’s Perch. The blacksmith there directs you into the questline that unlocks Yoana.
- Return to Yoana. Speak with the master armorer rather than an ordinary merchant or a weapon specialist.
- Open the Reforge service. Choose Reforge instead of a dye-related option.
- Select the armor piece. Pick the equipped chest, glove, trouser, or boot item whose visible appearance you want to change.
- Review the available appearances. Choose a look you have already acquired or registered in your appearance collection. A design that has never been acquired or registered will not be available merely because you know its name.
- Confirm the Reforge. The selected item keeps its original combat statistics while displaying the chosen visual model.
After confirmation, inspect the item and Geralt’s appearance to make sure you changed the intended slot. If you want another piece to match, repeat the process for that piece. Reforge should be treated as a selected-item operation, so changing one armor component does not necessarily restyle every other component.
This route answers the common question, “Can I keep my armor stats but use another armor’s appearance?” In Remastered, yes: keep the equipped item as the statistical foundation and use Reforge to assign an appearance you have collected.
Who handles armor and who handles weapons?
Yoana handles armor. Once Master Armorers is complete, use Yoana for the visible model of Geralt’s chest armor, gloves, trousers, and boots.
Éibhear Hattori handles weapons. Hattori’s Reforge service is for weapons, not for the armor slots on Geralt’s body. If you visit Hattori while trying to change a chest piece, the absence of the expected armor option is not necessarily a bug; it is a merchant-role mismatch.
This division is one of the simplest ways to avoid a wasted trip. Use the armor specialist for armor and the weapon specialist for weapons. Unlocking one master craftsman does not turn the other into a universal Reforge provider, and the official feature description limits the service to the two master craftsmen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat does Reforge change, and what stays the same?
Reforge changes the visible appearance of the selected item. It does not turn that item into the source armor mechanically. The equipped piece remains the item whose combat statistics are being used.
| Part of the item | Result after Reforge |
|---|---|
| Visible model | Changes to the acquired or registered appearance you select. |
| Combat statistics | Remain those of the equipped item. |
| Existing dyes | Preserved according to CD PROJEKT RED’s feature announcement. |
| Appearance collection | Not automatically expanded; the desired look must already be acquired or registered. |
| Other armor slots | Not automatically restyled; handle each selected piece separately as needed. |
That separation is why Reforge is useful for build-conscious players. You can retain the statistics of a favored item while presenting a different visual model. The service does not ask you to sacrifice the item’s combat role simply because you prefer another set’s design.
Reforge also does not replace acquisition. If you want the appearance of a particular armor set, first obtain the source armor or relevant diagram and verify that the look has been registered. Unlocking Yoana gives you the tool; it does not populate the tool with every possible design.
Dyes versus Reforge: which customization method should you use?
Dyes and Reforge address different kinds of customization. A dye recolors eligible armor. Reforge changes the selected item’s visible model to another acquired appearance. If your goal is specifically to change the overall armor design without dyes, Reforge is the relevant Remastered feature.

| Customization method | Edition support | Visual result | Stats | Unlock or acquisition requirement | Built in? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dye | Available as an armor-color option where supported. | Recolors eligible armor; it does not provide the broader model swap described for Reforge. | No combat-stat change is described for recoloring. | An eligible armor item and a dye. | In-game color customization. |
| Reforge | The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. | Uses another acquired or registered armor appearance on the selected item. | Preserves the equipped item’s combat statistics. | Complete Master Armorers, unlock Yoana, and have the desired appearance available. | Official in-game service. |
| Mods | Relevant to the original release when official Reforge is absent. | Can provide appearance-over-stats changes outside the built-in system. | Depends on the mod rather than an official feature guarantee. | Install and configure an appropriate mod for the edition and platform. | Not the official built-in route. |
The methods are not mutually exclusive. CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement says dyes already applied to equipment are preserved through Reforge. That means a player can use a dye for color and Reforge for the model, provided the item and appearance meet the relevant requirements. Reforge is simply the answer when recoloring alone is too narrow.
How should you plan a complete outfit?
Start with the item whose statistics you most want to keep. Reforge that piece first, then decide whether the remaining slots should match its visual style. Because the operation is tied to a selected item, a full coordinated outfit requires checking each slot rather than assuming one change applies globally.
For example, you might keep a strong equipped chest piece, assign it the appearance of an armor design you have registered, and then separately choose appearances for gloves, trousers, and boots. If only the chest piece is reforged, the other three pieces retain their existing looks. This is useful when you want a deliberate mixed set, but it also explains why a supposedly complete visual change may appear unfinished.
Before confirming each operation, check three things: the target slot, the appearance selected, and the fact that the target item—not the source appearance—is the item whose stats remain active. A short checklist avoids accidentally changing a different piece or assuming that acquiring an appearance replaces your equipped gear.
Why can’t you find the Reforge option?
Work through the following checks in order. They separate edition, unlock, merchant, and collection problems.
- No Reforge service appears anywhere: Confirm that the game is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. The original pre-Remastered release did not include the official built-in feature.
- You have not completed Master Armorers: Return to the blacksmith at Crow’s Perch and complete the questline. Yoana’s service is tied to that progression.
- You are speaking to the wrong crafts-person: Yoana handles armor; Éibhear Hattori handles weapons. Hattori is not the place to change Geralt’s chest, glove, trouser, or boot appearance.
- The desired look is absent: Acquire the source armor or relevant diagram, then check that the appearance is registered in your available collection. Knowing about a design does not make it selectable.
- Only one piece changed: This is expected when you selected only one item. Reforge the other armor pieces individually if you want them restyled too.
- You expected a dye menu: Reforge is a separate service. Use it when you want a model change, not merely a color adjustment.
Unlocking Yoana makes the service available; it does not automatically add every armor look to your collection. Conversely, possessing an appearance does not bypass the need to unlock the correct master armorer. Check both conditions instead of treating either one as sufficient on its own.
Does Reforge remove or overwrite dyes?
According to CD PROJEKT RED’s feature announcement, dyes already applied to equipment are preserved through Reforge. Reforge therefore does not represent a choice between color customization and model customization. You can retain an existing dye while changing the item’s visible model, subject to the appearance and item being eligible in your game.
This distinction matters when a player sees a color they like but dislikes the armor’s silhouette or design. A dye solves the color problem; Reforge solves the model problem. If you need both changes, apply or retain the dye and use Reforge for the appearance operation.

No. Reforge is applied to the armor item you select. Changing the chest piece does not automatically restyle the gloves, trousers, or boots. For a matching outfit, repeat the service for every slot you want to change. For a deliberately mixed outfit, reforge only the pieces that should share the chosen visual language.

Can you use an appearance you have not acquired?
No. The feature is designed around appearances you have already acquired or registered. Acquire the source armor or relevant diagram and make sure the look appears in your available collection before returning to Yoana. Reforge is not a preview system that grants access to every armor model.
Is Reforge the same as transmog?
“Transmog” is the common gaming term for changing an item’s appearance independently of its attributes. Reforge is the in-game name for that function in Remastered. Guides may use either word, but they are describing the same appearance-over-stats idea here.
Can you keep a powerful build while using a different set’s look?
Yes. That is the central purpose of Reforge. The equipped item retains its combat statistics while displaying an acquired or registered appearance selected through Yoana. The source appearance supplies the visual model; it does not replace the statistics of the item you chose to reforge.
Can another save or account provide the appearance?
The available appearance must be acquired or registered in your own collection. The feature description does not establish cross-save or account-wide sharing, so do not assume that an appearance from another save or account will appear in Yoana’s list.
Is Reforge available on every platform?
The feature is identified as part of the Remastered edition, but the feature description does not specify platform-by-platform availability. Check that your platform is running the Remastered version and that your installation is current before troubleshooting the merchant or questline.
Does every blacksmith offer Reforge?
No. The official description limits Reforge to the two master craftsmen. Yoana is the armor specialist, while Éibhear Hattori is the weapon specialist. Ordinary blacksmiths and armorers should not be expected to show the same service.
What is the shortest reliable route?
Verify Remastered, complete Master Armorers at Crow’s Perch, return to Yoana, select Reforge, choose the acquired or registered appearance, and confirm it on the specific armor item. If the option or appearance is missing, check the edition, quest completion, merchant role, and collection status in that order.

Do I need dyes to use Reforge?
No. Reforge changes the selected armor item’s model without requiring a dye. Dyes and Reforge are separate systems, and dyes already applied are preserved according to CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement.
Where do I unlock armor Reforge?
Complete the Master Armorers questline obtained through the blacksmith at Crow’s Perch, then use Yoana’s service.

The Bottom Line
To change Geralt’s armor design without relying on dyes, play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, complete Master Armorers at Crow’s Perch, and use Yoana’s Reforge service. Select an acquired or registered appearance for the specific armor piece you want to change. The model changes, the equipped item’s combat stats remain intact, and any existing dyes are preserved.
