Xbox 360 error 8015000A means the console failed to download an Xbox Live profile. The usual message is “Sorry, your Xbox Live profile can’t be downloaded at the moment. Try again later.” It can be caused by an Xbox service interruption, a local network problem, damaged cached data, or a problem on the legacy account-service path. The code alone does not prove that your password is wrong.
Work from least destructive to most disruptive: check service status, restart the network, clear the 360 system cache, then remove and redownload the profile using Delete Profile Only. If the same account works on Xbox One or newer hardware but fails on a physical 360 and backward compatibility, the problem may require account recovery or Xbox Support rather than another console reset.

What does Xbox 360 error code 8015000A mean?
8015000A is a legacy Xbox Live profile-download error. The 360 reaches the point where it needs to retrieve the profile, but the download does not complete. That failure can happen even when the Microsoft account password is correct and the account still signs in normally on newer Xbox hardware.
The on-screen wording varies slightly between “can’t be downloaded at the moment” and “can’t be downloaded right now.” Both messages describe the same basic operation: downloading the profile to the 360. They do not identify a single cause, and there is no published Microsoft statistic showing how often each possible cause occurs or how long a fix normally takes.

What the code does not prove
- It does not, by itself, prove that the password is incorrect.
- It does not establish that your saved games or achievements are damaged.
- It does not guarantee that deleting the profile, changing billing, or replacing a network accessory will solve the problem.
Because Xbox 360 services and account flows are legacy systems, a temporary service-side issue and an account-specific compatibility problem can produce the same code. That is why service and network checks come before deleting data.
What should I check before changing the console?
Check Xbox service status first, then verify that the 360 has a working internet connection. These checks are quick, reversible, and can prevent you from deleting a profile while Microsoft’s service is unavailable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
1. Check Xbox service status
Open the current Xbox service-status page on a phone or computer and look for alerts affecting account, profile, sign-in, or Xbox Live services. The official status page may load parts of its interface through JavaScript, so give it time to display all incident details. If an account or sign-in incident is active, wait for the incident to clear before making local changes.
A service incident can cause a profile download to fail even when your router, console storage, and credentials are fine. Retry after the status returns to normal; repeated attempts during an outage can make the error appear permanent when it is not.
2. Confirm the account works elsewhere
Sign in to the same Microsoft account on Xbox One, Xbox Series, or the Microsoft account website. This comparison is useful but not conclusive: a successful sign-in on newer hardware proves that the credentials are accepted there, not that the Xbox 360 profile-download route is healthy.
Write down the exact account address you are entering. If you use aliases, make sure you know which address is the actual Microsoft account and do not accidentally enter a different family member’s account.

On the 360, open the network settings and run the console’s connection test. A failure between the console and router points to a local network problem; a failure only during Xbox Live sign-in points more toward service or account handling. Correct obvious issues such as an unplugged cable, a disabled wireless network, or a router that has lost internet service before proceeding.

How do I power-cycle the network for 8015000A?
Power-cycling removes a stale router or modem session without changing your Xbox account or storage. It is a better first intervention than resetting the console.
- Turn off the Xbox 360.
- Unplug the router. If your internet uses a separate modem or gateway, unplug that device as well.
- Leave the equipment disconnected for several minutes so the previous network session fully ends.
- Reconnect the modem or gateway first, if you have separate devices, and wait for its normal internet lights.
- Reconnect the router and wait until it has internet service again.
- Turn on the 360, run its network test, and try Download Profile again.
If the profile downloads after the restart, the likely trigger was a temporary network or service session rather than a bad password. If the same error returns, continue with the cache procedure instead of repeatedly power-cycling.
How do I clear the Xbox 360 system cache?
Clearing the system cache is a reversible local cleanup step. It removes temporary system data; it is not the same as deleting a profile, saved game, or achievement.

- Press the Guide button on the controller.
- Open System Settings.
- Choose Storage.
- Highlight a storage device, but do not open it.
- Press the Y button to open Device Options.
- Select Clear System Cache.
- Confirm the operation when the console asks.
After the cache is cleared, restart the 360 and try the profile download once. The first startup can take slightly longer while temporary data is rebuilt. If the profile still cannot be downloaded, move to profile removal; do not clear the cache repeatedly expecting it to repair an account-side failure.
How do I remove and redownload the profile safely?
Remove the local profile only after service, network, and cache checks. The critical choice is Delete Profile Only. According to the troubleshooting guidance, this leaves saved games and achievements intact; deleting profile-associated content or saved data is a different and riskier operation.
- Press Guide.
- Go to Settings, then System, then Storage.
- Open the storage device that contains the profile.
- Choose Gamer Profiles.
- Highlight the affected profile and press Y.
- Choose Delete.
- Select Delete Profile Only, not an option that removes the profile and its associated content.
- Return to the dashboard.
- Choose Download Profile and enter the Microsoft account credentials.
Have the account address and password available before starting. If two-step verification or an unusual sign-in challenge appears, complete it on the device Microsoft presents. A profile that was removed locally will not appear on the dashboard until the download finishes.
What remains after “Delete Profile Only”?
The cited guidance says saved games and achievements remain on the storage device when you select Delete Profile Only. You may still need to sign in again before the console can associate new saves with the account. Never choose a broader delete option merely because the profile download failed.

Why does my profile work on Xbox One but not on Xbox 360?
Newer Xbox consoles and the Xbox 360 do not necessarily use identical profile-download paths. If the account signs in on Xbox One or Xbox Series but fails on a physical 360, the credentials may be valid while the legacy 360 service path is failing.
Compare both 360 environments
If possible, test the account on a physical Xbox 360 and through an Xbox One or Xbox Series console’s backward-compatibility environment. Failure in both 360-related environments, while newer-native Xbox services work, is a strong reason to treat the case as a legacy account or service-path problem rather than a single console’s cache.
This comparison is a diagnostic clue, not a published root-cause rule. The available guidance does not provide an official explanation or a guaranteed remedy for every account that behaves differently across generations.
Check for account restrictions
Confirm that the account is not waiting for a security verification, recovery-code step, or a sign-in decision that only appears on a newer device. Family-account restrictions, a changed email alias, or a recently updated security method can also make an old console’s sign-in flow behave differently. Resolve any account notice before attempting another profile download.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can toggling recurring billing fix 8015000A?
There are user reports that changing a subscription’s recurring-billing setting helped a related legacy profile-download failure, but this is anecdotal and should not be treated as an established fix for 8015000A.
A Microsoft Q&A author reported that turning Game Pass Ultimate recurring billing on and then off restored profile download for error 8015190A, not 8015000A. The author also wrote, “My subscription stays active until its end date, so nothing was lost.” A separate forum search result describes a similar 8015000A claim, but that report is not proof that billing state caused the error or that the change will work for another account.
If you decide to test the account state
- Open the Microsoft account’s subscription and billing settings on a browser.
- Record the current renewal date and billing state before changing anything.
- If recurring billing is already off, do not enable it solely because of this error unless you understand the renewal implications.
- If you make a temporary change, return the setting to the state you want and verify the subscription’s end date.
- Retry the 360 profile download once; do not repeatedly toggle billing.
Do not cancel an active subscription or assume that a billing change repairs Xbox Live authentication. Use this option only after the non-destructive console and network steps, and only if you can manage the renewal setting safely.

What account recovery and support steps are available?
If the profile still cannot be downloaded, use Microsoft’s account-recovery process rather than guessing passwords. Microsoft documents recovery codes and directs people who cannot sign in to Sign-in Helper and Contact Support. These routes are appropriate when you cannot complete verification, have lost access to a security method, or see an account-specific block.

Do not send a password or recovery code in a public forum or to an unverified person. Support may ask you to confirm account ownership, but legitimate support does not need you to publish secret credentials.
Should I reset the Xbox 360?
A console reset belongs at the end of troubleshooting, not the beginning. The secondary guidance shows a reset option labeled Reset and keep my games & apps, but menu wording and the consequences of each reset choice can vary by console software. Read the confirmation screen on the actual 360 before accepting it.
A reset can remove local settings and force you through setup again without fixing a server-side or legacy-account problem. It also takes longer to recover than clearing a cache or redownloading one profile. Use it only after service status is normal, the network is reliable, cache clearing and profile redownload have failed, and Xbox Support has not identified an account-side issue.
Do I need a wireless adapter or Ethernet cable?
Network hardware is relevant only when the 360 cannot maintain a reliable connection. An original Xbox 360 does not have built-in Wi-Fi and can use an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E models include built-in Wi-Fi.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Xbox 360 model | Built-in Wi-Fi | Useful network test |
|---|---|---|
| Original Xbox 360 | No | Use a wired connection or a compatible Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter |
| Xbox 360 S | Yes | Compare wireless with a direct Ethernet connection |
| Xbox 360 E | Yes | Compare wireless with a direct Ethernet connection |
A Cat6 Ethernet cable is a generic diagnostic option when you want to bypass wireless interference. It is not a treatment for an account-authentication failure. If the console passes network tests and the same account fails on multiple 360-related environments, buying an adapter is unlikely to address the underlying problem.

Stop and escalate when the pattern points away from the console
Stop repeating local fixes when the service is operating, the network test passes, the cache has been cleared, and a fresh profile download fails on more than one 360-related environment. That pattern is consistent with a legacy account or service path that needs Microsoft-side investigation. A reset, a new cable, or repeated password changes cannot repair a server-side account record.
Which common mistakes make 8015000A harder to fix?
- Deleting the wrong content: Choosing a broad delete command instead of Delete Profile Only can create a separate save-data problem.
- Assuming a newer console proves the 360 is broken: Cross-generation sign-in success narrows the problem but does not identify the cause.
- Changing billing without recording the original state: A subscription setting can have renewal consequences unrelated to the profile error.
- Resetting during an outage: A reset cannot restore an unavailable Xbox service and may add setup work.
- Trying many passwords: Repeated guesses can trigger security checks while leaving the actual legacy-service problem untouched.
- Buying network hardware too early: An adapter helps only when the console lacks a usable connection; it does not repair profile authorization.
Keep a short log of each attempt and its result. That record prevents circular troubleshooting and gives support the precise sequence needed to distinguish a local failure from an account-side one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will clearing the Xbox 360 cache delete my games?
Clearing the system cache removes temporary console data and is separate from deleting a profile or saved game. You may see longer startup or update activity afterward while the cache is rebuilt.
Can I download the profile to a USB drive instead?
The documented procedure uses the storage device that already contains the Gamer Profiles folder, followed by Download Profile from the dashboard. A USB device can be useful as Xbox 360 storage, but changing storage media does not bypass an account or service-path failure.
Why does the error appear only on one Xbox 360?
A single-console failure can result from cached data, local storage, or that console’s network configuration. Testing the same account on another 360 or in backward compatibility helps separate a hardware-local problem from a legacy account-path problem.
What should I do if I cannot complete Microsoft account verification?
Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper and recovery-code process rather than repeatedly entering credentials. If recovery cannot be completed, contact Xbox or Microsoft Support and provide the 8015000A message plus the devices and steps you have already tested.
