Xbox’s product information verified in 2026 lists the memory and included SSD capacities; its product-page specifications list the processor and battery capacities. These are device specifications, not benchmark results. If choosing between them, consider how much space your installed games need and how much you value battery capacity alongside the processor tier. The available data does not establish current retail prices, so a price comparison should be checked against current listings rather than inferred from the hardware names.
One naming caution: the current Xbox catalog also lists an Ally X20. Do not assume that “X20” is another name for the Ally X, or apply the Ally X’s listed specifications or accessory-fit details to it without checking the exact model listing.
How can you play games on an Xbox Ally?

Check the game’s store listing and current Xbox support information before relying on any one route. Catalogs, subscription benefits, eligible regions and supported devices can change. Does Game Pass work on the Xbox Ally?

Can you play Steam, Battle.net or other PC games?
Supported Windows games from Steam, Battle.net and other PC storefronts can be part of the handheld’s game library. Their presence in a unified library is a way to launch and organize installed games, not a transfer of ownership between storefronts. A title may still require its original launcher, account, update process or sign-in.

Some games are designed primarily for mouse and keyboard or have launcher screens that are awkward to navigate with a gamepad. Xbox’s Game Bar Gamepad Cursor can help move a cursor through interfaces that need mouse-like input, but that does not guarantee every menu or game supports controller play. Check both the game’s control needs and its compatibility information before installing it as a handheld-first experience.
How do you check whether a game works well?
Check two separate signals: Handheld Compatibility describes usability on a handheld, while Windows Performance Fit gives an expected performance category. Neither is a guarantee that a game will suit every preference, setting or future update.

Read Windows Performance Fit separately
Xbox’s compatibility guidance describes “should play well” as an expectation of around 30 frames per second or better, and “should play great” as around 60 FPS or better. These are category expectations, not a measured guarantee for every scene, graphics setting, power profile or update. Xbox says actual performance varies. A strong performance expectation also does not automatically mean that controls, text size or launcher flow are comfortable on a small screen.

Xbox reported on April 30, 2026, that more than 1,000 PC games immediately “play great” on handheld through its compatibility program. That is Xbox’s characterization at that date, not an independent count or a promise that every game in a personal library will qualify.

How long does the Xbox Ally battery last?
The listed capacities are 60Wh for the Ally and 80Wh for the Ally X, but those numbers are not play-time estimates. There is no universal runtime figure established here: battery use changes with the game and the power and frame-rate profile.
Xbox says Default Game Profiles are supported on both models and apply tailored settings when the device is on battery. Its November 25, 2025 example says the Default Game Profile for Hollow Knight: Silksong can add nearly an hour compared with Performance mode while delivering smooth 120 FPS. That is a vendor example for one game and profile, not a general runtime promise or an independent battery test.
For a practical decision, compare the capacities as a hardware distinction, then think about your likely games and whether you expect to play away from a charger. A demanding game or a higher-performance setting can change consumption; a game-specific profile may make a different trade-off. Do not convert a single example into a forecast for another title.
Can you dock an Xbox Ally to a TV or monitor?
Yes. A compatible USB-C dock can connect the Windows handheld to an external display and provide power and ports, depending on the dock. Docking changes where the PC’s output appears; it does not turn the device into a console or change game compatibility and licenses.
Xbox’s April 30, 2026 docking update describes switching output to the TV, adjusting display output, and handling a paired controller more smoothly. Xbox’s guidance is: “For the smoothest experience, pair your controller before docking.” It also describes Game Bar display controls and improved recognition of additional controllers.

The documented docks do not have identical feature claims. Xbox credits HDR10 support to both its 100W Charger and Bulwark docks, while it specifically identifies VRR support for the Bulwark. Xbox lists a SanDisk microSD card intended for the ROG Xbox Ally (X) in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. Those are listed accessory capacities, not storage included with either handheld.
