The Xbox-associated Wu-Tang Clan action RPG reported in 2023 was called Project Shaolin. Insider Gaming described a fast-paced melee RPG with Wu-Tang music and characters, but those details were attributed reporting—not officially confirmed specifications. The report gave no confirmed release date, and a later Wu-Tang game announcement does not establish that the two projects are the same.
What is the new Xbox Wu-Tang game called?
In an exclusive published December 6, 2023, Insider Gaming referred to the project as Project Shaolin. The report said the game was associated with Xbox and Wu-Tang Clan. It did not establish that Project Shaolin was a final title, nor did it provide an official announcement from Xbox or the developer. Insider Gaming’s report is the source for the name and the development details below.
What gameplay did the report describe?
According to Insider Gaming’s sources, Project Shaolin was a third-person, fast-paced melee action RPG with combat tied closely to music. The report described four weapon styles, including single and dual swords, and said players could explore freely in a bright, colorful, anime-like world.
The same report said all nine Wu-Tang Clan members would be playable as temporary buffs, potentially granting abilities such as ultimate moves or increased health. It also described loot and gear collection, with a social hub called the “Neighborhood” where players could reportedly sell loot, listen to music, and show off their fashion.

The report said the game was expected to feature a large catalog of Wu-Tang music, much of it reimagined by producer and DJ Just Blaze. These are reported plans, not confirmed product features; the gameplay footage Insider Gaming said it had seen was not published.
Is Project Shaolin still coming out?
There is no confirmed release date in the reviewed sources. Insider Gaming reported that the project was in alpha when its story was published in December 2023. It could not obtain an accurate release date; its suggestion that release might be at least a year or two away was an estimate made at that time, not a current forecast. The reviewed sources do not establish whether Project Shaolin later received an official name, remains in development, or was canceled.

Is Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver the Xbox game?
That has not been established. Brass Lion Entertainment announced Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver on June 6, 2025, describing it as a co-op action RPG in which players wield Wu-Tang powers to save Shaolin. The announcement describes up to three co-op players, customizable fighting styles and fashion, a social hub, and a dynamic soundtrack featuring classic Wu-Tang songs and new material overseen by Just Blaze. It says the game is coming to consoles and PC, with full release plans to follow. Brass Lion’s announcement does not identify the game as Project Shaolin or say that Xbox is publishing it. The shared themes and studio connection do not by themselves prove the projects are the same.

No. Shaolin vs Wutang is a separate one-on-one indie combat game. Xbox Wire identifies its developer as Jae Lee/GodSpeed Games and its publisher as Digital Tribe, and lists it as available for Xbox One in 2020. Xbox Wire’s listing distinguishes it from the reported Project Shaolin RPG.
