If Xbox Cloud Gaming sends you back to the sign-in page, the problem is usually an Xbox web-session failure rather than your controller, internet speed, or console hardware. The most common triggers are blocked Microsoft authentication cookies, an extension or privacy filter interfering with sign-in, a stale browser profile, an account or region mismatch, or an Xbox service problem. Start by checking Xbox service status, then test a private window or clean browser profile. If that works, repair the normal browser profile; if the loop survives different browsers, devices, and networks, use Microsoft’s account recovery tools and contact Xbox Support.
Why does Xbox Cloud Gaming keep signing me out?
Xbox Cloud Gaming relies on a chain of Microsoft account and Xbox web tokens. A page can appear to accept your password, load for a while, and then lose the token that proves you are signed in. A Microsoft Q&A report describes Xbox.com loading for 20–30 seconds before returning to the unsigned-in home page; the same account still worked in the Microsoft account site and Xbox app, but Store, Remote Play, and Cloud Gaming were blocked. That timing is a reported symptom, not a measured rate for all players.

Expired or failed web authentication token
A token can become invalid after a password change, security event, account-service error, or a corrupted browser session. The visible result is a redirect loop even though the credentials are correct.
Cookies or tracking protection blocking Microsoft sign-in
Xbox.com, Microsoft account pages, and the Cloud Gaming client may use more than one Microsoft domain during authentication. Strict cross-site cookie blocking, tracking protection, VPN filtering, or custom DNS rules can prevent the final token from being stored. The page then treats each visit as a new, unauthenticated session.

Extensions and ad blockers
Content blockers, script blockers, privacy extensions, and some security suites can modify the sign-in flow. An extension may allow the password form but block a redirect or cookie that Xbox needs afterward.
Region, age, or family-account restrictions
Microsoft support discussions identify account and console region mismatches, age limits, and family-account controls as possible causes. These are diagnostic possibilities, not universal explanations: a sign-out loop can occur without any restriction on the account.
Xbox-side account or service issue
An account flag or an outage affecting Xbox profile or gaming services can interrupt authentication on every local device. Check service status before repeatedly clearing data or changing account settings.
What should I do first when Cloud Gaming signs me out?
Use this order because it moves from a reversible check to broader tests, while avoiding unnecessary account changes during an outage.
- Check Xbox service status. Look for incidents involving account, profile, identity, or gaming services. If those systems are degraded, wait for recovery rather than repeatedly resetting your browser or account.
- Test a private window or clean browser profile. Open Xbox Cloud Gaming in a private window with no extensions, or create a fresh browser profile. Sign in with the account you normally use for Xbox. If Cloud Gaming works there, the fault is confined to the original profile.
- Temporarily remove blockers. For the test only, disable ad blocking, tracking protection, VPN or custom-DNS filtering, and similar security features. Allow the cross-site cookies required by Microsoft authentication. Turn protections back on one at a time after identifying the setting that breaks sign-in.
- Try another browser, device, and network. Use a supported browser on a phone or another computer, and test a phone hotspot instead of your usual Wi-Fi. A failure on one browser suggests a local profile problem; failure everywhere points toward the account or Xbox service.
- Run Microsoft’s account sign-in helper. Enter the account identifier it requests and follow the recovery steps it provides. Then verify that Xbox.com, the Xbox app, and Microsoft Store are all using the same Microsoft account.
- Check region and restrictions. Confirm that the Microsoft account region and Xbox console region match. Review age, family, and parental controls that could limit cloud access.
- Allow for “sign out everywhere” delays. If you recently used Microsoft’s sign-out-everywhere control, wait before judging the result. Microsoft says, “Signing out may take up to 24 hours.” That operation does not sign an Xbox console out.
- Escalate if the loop is universal. When a clean profile, another browser, another device, and another network all fail, contact Xbox Support under Account & profile / Can’t sign in. Describe the redirect loop, the 20–30-second load if that matches what you see, and that Cloud Gaming is affected.
How do I tell whether my browser profile is the problem?
A private-window result is the fastest way to separate a damaged profile from an account-wide failure. Private mode starts without most stored cookies and usually prevents extensions from running, so a successful test strongly implicates local browser state.

If the private window works
Close every Xbox and Microsoft tab, then clear cookies and site data for the Xbox and Microsoft account domains in your regular profile. Do not wipe all browsing data unless necessary; removing only the affected sites preserves unrelated sessions. Reopen the browser and sign in again.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNext, inspect extensions. Re-enable them one at a time, testing Cloud Gaming after each change. The extension that brings back the redirect is the likely conflict; update it, change its site permissions, or leave it disabled for Xbox authentication.
If the private window also fails
Repeat the test in a different supported browser. If another browser succeeds, reset or recreate the original profile rather than changing account security settings. If all browsers fail on the same computer, test a second device and a different network to determine whether the issue follows the account or the network path.
What settings can block Xbox authentication?
Authentication can fail when a privacy control prevents a required redirect or cookie. Make temporary, targeted changes and restore your protections after testing.
- Cross-site cookies: Permit the Microsoft and Xbox domains involved in sign-in. Blocking every third-party cookie can stop the final session from being saved.
- Tracking prevention: Set the browser’s protection to its standard or balanced level for one test. If that fixes the loop, add a narrowly scoped exception rather than disabling protection globally.
- Ad and script blockers: Pause them for Xbox.com and the Cloud Gaming page. A page that displays normally can still fail if a background authentication request is filtered.
- VPN and custom DNS filters: Disconnect the VPN and bypass filtering DNS briefly. A phone hotspot is a practical comparison because it changes both the route and DNS provider.
- System security software: Some endpoint products inspect browser redirects. Use their web-protection pause only long enough to test, then restore it and configure an exception if appropriate.
Never leave security controls disabled as a permanent “fix.” The goal is to identify which control interferes, then create the smallest exception or use a different browser profile.

How do I fix sign-out loops in the Windows Xbox app?
If the app, rather than a browser, is the client that keeps losing your session, work through Windows and Microsoft Store together. The app and Store must use the same account and up-to-date gaming components.
- Restart Windows and try the Xbox app once more.
- Check Xbox service status before making changes.
- Update the Xbox app and Gaming Services through Microsoft Store and Windows Update.
- Press
Win+R, enterwsreset.exe, and press Enter. Wait for the Microsoft Store cache reset to finish and for the Store to reopen. - Sign out of both Microsoft Store and the Xbox app. Close them, reopen the Store, sign in with the intended Microsoft account, then sign in to Xbox with that same account.
- If the app remains stuck, uninstall and reinstall the Xbox app. Microsoft Community guidance lists reinstallation as a client-side remedy when the app itself is failing.
These steps repair app and Store state; they will not correct an Xbox account flag or an outage that affects every client.
Can a region or family setting cause immediate sign-out?
Yes, an account and console region mismatch or an age and family restriction can prevent the service from completing authorization. Verify the settings rather than changing them repeatedly.
Region check
Review the country or region on the Microsoft account and the region configured on the Xbox console. They should represent the same market. Region changes can have service and content consequences, so do not switch regions merely as a trial; first confirm which setting is incorrect.

What does “sign out everywhere” do, and why am I still signed in?
Microsoft’s sign-out-everywhere command invalidates sessions across supported Microsoft services, but propagation is not immediate. Microsoft states that signing out may take up to 24 hours. An Xbox console is excluded from that operation, so the console can remain signed in while browsers and other devices are being cleared.
Do not press the command repeatedly during a Cloud Gaming troubleshooting session. Record when you used it, wait the stated window, and then perform one fresh sign-in. If the browser loop began before the command and remains after 24 hours on multiple devices, treat it as an account or service issue rather than a normal propagation delay.
Which fix should I try, and when?
The following comparison helps choose a next step without making a high-impact account change too early.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Fix or test | Client scope | Reversibility | What a successful result tells you | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private window or clean profile | Browser | Fully reversible | Stored cookies or an extension in the normal profile is implicated | You can reach the sign-in page but are redirected after login |
| Clear Xbox/Microsoft site data | Browser | Reversible, but removes those site sessions | The regular profile had stale or corrupt session data | Private mode works and you want to repair the normal profile |
| Disable blockers, VPN, or custom DNS briefly | Browser and network | Reversible | A privacy or routing control is interrupting authentication | Different network works, or protection settings are unusually strict |
| Another device and network | All clients | Fully reversible | The failure follows the account, not one installation | Several local browser tests have failed |
| Account sign-in helper | Microsoft account | Depends on recovery action | Microsoft detects an identifier, security, or recovery problem | Sign-in fails across browsers or credentials may be in doubt |
| Region and family review | Account and console | Review is reversible; changing region may have consequences | A policy or market mismatch may be blocking authorization | Other clients fail and the account is managed or recently moved |
| Xbox Support escalation | All clients | Neutral | Microsoft can inspect account-side flags unavailable to you | The loop survives clean profiles, devices, and networks |
When should I contact Xbox Support?
Contact support after you have checked service status and reproduced the problem outside the original browser profile. The strongest escalation case is a loop that occurs on multiple browsers, devices, and networks while the Microsoft account itself appears valid.
Choose Account & profile, then Can’t sign in. Include the account alias (without sharing your password), the browsers and devices tested, whether a private window changed the result, the network comparison, your region, and the approximate time of each attempt. Mention whether the Xbox app and Microsoft Store can sign in, because that distinction helps support separate a web-session problem from an account-wide failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Xbox Cloud Gaming sign me out only in one browser?
That pattern usually indicates profile data, an extension, or a browser privacy setting rather than a disabled account. Compare a private window with a fresh profile, then remove only Xbox and Microsoft site data and re-enable extensions individually.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will clearing cookies delete my Xbox games or saves?
Clearing browser cookies signs the website out and removes local session data; it does not delete cloud saves, installed console games, or your Microsoft account. You will need to authenticate again in the affected browser.
Can changing my Microsoft password stop the sign-out loop?
A password change can invalidate old sessions, but it is not a general remedy for blocked cookies or an Xbox outage. Change the password only when the account sign-in helper or Microsoft security activity indicates a credential problem.
Why does the Xbox console stay signed in after I choose sign out everywhere?
Microsoft’s sign-out-everywhere feature does not include Xbox consoles, and Microsoft says propagation to included services can take up to 24 hours. Sign the console out separately if you need to remove its local session.
Is a faster internet connection the fix for repeated Cloud Gaming sign-outs?
No. Bandwidth and latency affect stream quality, while an immediate return to the sign-in page is an authentication-session symptom. Test another network to identify routing or filtering problems, but buying networking hardware does not address the documented token and cookie causes.
