Xbox Game Pass is a set of subscription tiers, not one product. In the U.S. storefront checked October 25, 2026, Essential costs $9.99 per month, Premium $14.99, Ultimate $22.99, and PC Game Pass $13.99. Essential, Premium, and Ultimate are the tiers Microsoft identifies for cloud gaming; PC Game Pass is presented as a PC library plan rather than a cloud plan. Your best choice depends on whether you play on console, PC, or supported streaming devices, how large a catalog you want, and whether day-one releases or extras matter. Cloud play requires an eligible plan, supported game, supported region and device, a compatible controller, and a reliable connection. Recurring billing is normally enabled, but you can turn it off before the next billing date; refund eligibility is narrower than cancellation.
What are the Xbox Game Pass plans and prices?
Microsoft’s U.S. storefront displayed four plans on October 25, 2026. Prices, catalogs, release timing and promotions can change, and the amounts below are not universal prices for every country.

| Plan | Displayed U.S. price | Library and release details shown | Cloud allowance announced for November 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99/month | 50+ games, online console multiplayer and in-game benefits | 5 hours/month |
| Premium | $14.99/month | 200+ games; select new Xbox-published games within one year | 10 hours/month |
| Ultimate | $22.99/month | 500+ games; select day-one releases; EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics | 15 hours/month |
| PC Game Pass | $13.99/month | 300+ PC games, day-one releases and EA Play | Not listed among the cloud plans; no allowance stated |
The game counts are snapshots of what the storefront displayed, not permanent guarantees. Individual games can leave, rotate between tiers, or be restricted by region. “Select” day-one or first-year releases do not mean every Xbox-published game arrives on the same date.
Which Game Pass plan should I choose?
Choose according to the devices you actually use and the value you place on catalog size, release timing and bundled services.
#1 Best Overall
- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Choose Essential for a lower-cost console subscription
Essential is aimed at console players who mainly need online multiplayer, a smaller included catalog and in-game benefits. Its announced November 2026 cloud allowance is the smallest, so it is a poor fit if streaming is your primary way to play.
Choose Premium for a broader catalog and earlier access
Premium raises the displayed U.S. price to $14.99 and the catalog claim to 200-plus games. Microsoft says select new Xbox-published games arrive within one year, rather than promising day-one access to all first-party releases. The announced cloud allowance is 10 hours per month.

Choose Ultimate for the largest bundle
Ultimate is the most expensive tier at the displayed U.S. price of $22.99 per month. It lists 500-plus games, select day-one releases, EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, plus the highest announced cloud allowance at 15 hours monthly. Those extras only have value if you use the relevant catalogs or benefits.
Choose PC Game Pass if your play is Windows-only
PC Game Pass lists 300-plus PC games, day-one releases and EA Play for $13.99 per month in the U.S. storefront. The comparison does not list it among Microsoft’s cloud gaming plans, so do not assume that subscribing to PC Game Pass alone grants cloud play. Check the current plan description for your country before paying.
Can I play Game Pass games in the cloud?
Yes, but only when every requirement is met: an eligible subscription, a cloud-supported game, a supported region, a supported device, a compatible controller and a connection suitable for streaming. Cloud gaming is not a guarantee that every title in your library can be launched remotely.

Which plans include cloud gaming?
Microsoft’s cloud FAQ identifies Essential, Premium and Ultimate as cloud gaming plans. PC Game Pass is not listed in that cloud-plan group in the cited comparison, so verify eligibility in your local storefront rather than inferring it from the size of the PC catalog.
Which devices are supported?
Microsoft lists Windows PCs; Apple and Android phones and tablets; Xbox consoles; select smart TVs; Amazon Fire TV; and select Meta Quest headsets among supported device categories. “Select” matters: support can depend on the exact model, operating system, app or browser, country and account. Check the current Xbox device and region eligibility pages before buying hardware for streaming.
Do I need an Xbox console?
No. A supported phone, tablet, PC, television, streaming device or headset can be enough, provided the game, region and service are eligible. You still need a compatible controller unless the particular game and interface explicitly support another input method.
What do I need to set up Xbox cloud gaming?
Prepare the subscription, device, controller and network before troubleshooting the game itself.
- Confirm plan and region. Make sure your account has Essential, Premium or Ultimate and that cloud gaming is available where you are. The title must also be supported for streaming.
- Use a supported device. Install or open the current Xbox cloud experience on a listed Windows, mobile, console, smart-TV, Fire TV or Meta Quest device. Compatibility varies by model and software version.
- Connect a controller. Microsoft requires a compatible controller over Bluetooth or USB. Pair it in the device’s Bluetooth settings or connect it with a data-capable USB cable, then confirm that the operating system recognizes button input.
- Provide enough bandwidth. Microsoft’s best-performance guidance is 10 Mbps on mobile devices and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs and tablets. These are guidance figures, not a promise of a fixed resolution or latency.
- Prefer a stable link. Microsoft recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data. Stay near the wireless access point, pause heavy downloads and avoid congested networks when possible.
- Launch a supported title. Open the cloud section, select a game marked as playable in the cloud and wait for the stream to initialize. A title that is installed locally or included in the catalog is not automatically cloud-enabled.
Streaming quality also depends on location, device and other factors. Possible differences from local play include video resolution, audio outputs, cloud-save storage behavior, companion-app support and compatibility with accessories or peripherals.

How many cloud-gaming hours do I get?
Team Xbox announced that monthly included cloud time would change beginning in November 2026: 5 hours for Essential, 10 for Premium and 15 for Ultimate. Because the current date is October 25, 2026, check your account and local terms to see whether the change has taken effect when you read this.
| Plan | Announced included cloud time | What is known about extra time |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 5 hours per month | Team Xbox said additional hours would be purchasable; price and market details were to be announced before the change. |
| Premium | 10 hours per month | Additional-hour pricing, eligible games and market availability were not yet specified in the announcement. |
| Ultimate | 15 hours per month | Additional-hour pricing, eligible games and market availability were not yet specified in the announcement. |
The announcement estimated that the change would affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers, a figure published by Team Xbox in 2026. It did not establish whether unused time rolls over, whether allowances are shared across family members, or how a partial session is counted. Look for those details in the terms shown for your account.
What happens if I exceed my included cloud hours?
Team Xbox said members would be able to buy additional cloud time through the Xbox Store. The September 3, 2026 announcement did not provide prices, a universal purchase schedule, eligible games or availability for every market. Do not budget for a specific top-up amount until your local store displays it.
If you stream frequently, compare the expected hours with the plan’s allowance before subscribing. Downloading games to a console or PC, where available, avoids consuming cloud time but requires the necessary hardware, storage and game license conditions.

Cloud play sends video from a remote server while your controller inputs travel back, so it is more sensitive to network conditions than an installed game. Microsoft specifically notes that performance varies with connection, location, device and other factors.

- BOLD STYLE, BUILT TO PERFORM — Define your swagger with a wild, head-turning design. Stay elegantly on target with textured triggers built for every moment.
- RUBBERIZED GRIPS — Hold on to the action with rubberized grips on the back cases, designed for comfort and control during long gaming sessions.

- PLAY ACROSS EVERY SCREEN — Quickly pair with, play on, and switch between devices including console and PC. Stream games across mobile, gaming handhelds, Smart TVs, and supported VR headsets with XBOX Cloud Gaming.
- Test on 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a strong mobile-data connection rather than a crowded 2.4 GHz network.
- Meet the 10 Mbps mobile or 20 Mbps console, PC and tablet guidance, while recognizing that speed alone does not measure latency or packet loss.
- Stop large downloads, updates and video streams on the same connection.
- Move closer to the router, use wired Ethernet where practical, and restart the network equipment if the connection has become unstable.
- Try the same game on another supported device to separate a device-specific issue from a service or network issue.
A stable connection cannot remove every limitation. Resolution, audio paths, saves, companion apps and peripherals may differ from the locally installed version, and a game can be unavailable for streaming even while it remains downloadable.
How do I cancel Game Pass or stop the next charge?
Microsoft says recurring billing is enabled by default. Turning off recurring billing prevents the next renewal while normally allowing access through the period you already paid for; canceling and refunding are separate decisions.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- Open the account’s subscriptions or services page and select the Game Pass subscription.
- Choose Manage, then the option to turn off recurring billing or cancel. Microsoft can change the exact wording by region and account type.
- Follow the confirmation screens and save the displayed end date or confirmation message.
- If you use an Xbox console, open the account’s subscription-management area and make the same change there; the available labels can differ by console software version.
Make the change before the next billing date. Removing the app, uninstalling games or disconnecting a payment card does not itself turn off the subscription. If you cannot see the subscription, check that you signed in with the purchasing account and that it was not billed through a separate retailer or platform.
Can I get a refund after Game Pass renews?
Microsoft’s cloud FAQ describes a narrow route for the most recent recurring charge: cancel and submit a refund request within 30 days after payment. It limits that opportunity to once per Microsoft account per subscription product, and eligibility can also depend on local law and the applicable terms.
Therefore, turning off renewal is not the same as receiving money back. Submit the official support request promptly, include the payment date and subscription product, and read the terms shown for your location. Do not assume that an older charge, a promotional purchase or a charge made through another seller qualifies.

What are the main trade-offs between local and cloud play?
| Consideration | Cloud play | Installed play |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Needs a supported streaming device and controller; no console or gaming PC is necessarily required. | Needs compatible hardware, storage and the ability to install the game. |
| Network | Requires a reliable connection and is affected by latency, congestion and location. | Once installed, play is far less dependent on continuous bandwidth, although online features still need a connection. |
| Catalog access | Only cloud-enabled titles in supported regions can launch. | Catalog and license rules still apply, but the game can be downloaded when included and compatible. |
| Quality and accessories | Resolution, audio, saves, companion apps and peripherals can differ from local play. | Uses the capabilities of the local hardware and supported accessories. |
| Usage limit | Essential, Premium and Ultimate have the announced monthly allowances beginning November 2026. | No cloud-hour allowance is consumed by a locally installed session. |
How should I check my plan before subscribing?
- Confirm currency and taxes: the quoted prices are U.S. storefront displays from October 25, 2026; your country can show different amounts, taxes or billing intervals.
- Read the current catalog: counts such as 50-plus, 200-plus, 300-plus and 500-plus are snapshots, not lifetime promises.
- Check release wording: “select” day-one or within-one-year access excludes some releases.
- Verify cloud eligibility: confirm your region, device model and the specific games you intend to stream.
- Review renewal: note the next billing date immediately after signup and decide whether recurring billing should remain on.
- Plan for announced limits: if you stream more than 5, 10 or 15 hours monthly, wait for local top-up pricing before assuming the subscription fits your budget.
What is the practical verdict on Game Pass in 2026?
Essential is the economical console-oriented option, Premium is the middle ground for a larger catalog and earlier access to select Xbox-published games, Ultimate is for players who will use its broad catalog, day-one selection and bundled services, and PC Game Pass is the focused choice for Windows gaming. Cloud gaming can extend access to supported devices, but it is conditional on game, region, controller and network compatibility and now has announced monthly allowances. Turn off recurring billing before the next renewal if you do not want another charge, and treat any refund as a limited policy exception rather than an automatic result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does PC Game Pass automatically include Xbox cloud gaming?
Microsoft’s plan comparison does not list PC Game Pass among the cloud gaming plans. Cloud eligibility can change by market, so check the current description attached to your account instead of assuming that the PC catalog includes streaming access.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I use a keyboard and mouse for every cloud game?
The cloud FAQ requires a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller. Support for keyboard, mouse or other peripherals is game- and device-specific, so confirm compatibility before relying on those inputs.
Do unused cloud hours carry over to the next month?
The September 2026 announcement did not state a rollover policy. Look for an allowance and expiration explanation in the terms shown by your local Xbox Store or account page.
Will canceling immediately remove the games I installed?
Turning off recurring billing concerns the next renewal and does not itself uninstall files. Access to subscription games ends when the paid period or another entitlement ends, while your locally stored files can remain until you remove them.
