Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless; PCs, phones, tablets and supported TVs connect over Bluetooth. The controller has an internal rechargeable battery, but Microsoft requires a USB-C charging cable that is sold separately.
Microsoft Store information dated 2026 lists a US price of $49.99, a November 4, 2026 release date and preorder availability. Xbox Wire says preorders opened October 14, 2026. Because the product has not reached its listed release date as of October 20, 2026, retail stock and regional availability can change.

The key distinction is the wireless standard. The Nano is an Xbox Wireless accessory when used with Xbox consoles, while the same controller uses Bluetooth with Windows computers, mobile devices and supported televisions. A phone or TV appearing in a compatible category does not guarantee that every operating-system build, model or feature will work.

The XBOX Nano Controller is officially supported on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It connects to those consoles through Xbox Wireless rather than Bluetooth. That makes it a normal console controller for supported gameplay and system navigation, subject to the console and game’s own feature support.

How to use it with a Series console
- Turn on the Xbox Series X or Series S and the Nano Controller.
- Start the console’s standard Xbox Wireless controller-pairing flow and put the Nano into pairing mode using the controller’s hardware controls.
- Complete the on-screen pairing process. Once paired, select the Nano as the active controller for games and console menus.
The official compatibility statement establishes support for the Series X|S family, but it does not specify a different procedure for the X model and the S model. Treat them as the same compatibility class rather than assuming one model has a special feature set.
Xbox One compatibility
Xbox One is also officially supported through Xbox Wireless. The Nano therefore covers both the previous Xbox One generation and the current Series X|S generation without requiring a Bluetooth adapter for the console.
What Xbox One owners should check
- Pair the controller through the console’s ordinary Xbox Wireless process.
- Check the game’s own control support if a programmable shortcut or special input does not work as expected.
- Keep the USB-C cable available for charging; console compatibility does not make a cable part of the box contents.
Microsoft’s compatibility information does not separate Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X into different support categories. The published claim is for Xbox One generally.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC compatibility
Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs are supported through Bluetooth. That makes the Nano suitable for a laptop, desktop or tablet that has compatible Bluetooth hardware. The controller is not described as requiring a proprietary Xbox Wireless adapter for Windows in the published compatibility information.

Basic Bluetooth connection
- Turn on Bluetooth in Windows and open the system’s Bluetooth device-adding screen.
- Put the Nano Controller into Bluetooth pairing mode and choose it from the list of available devices.
- Wait for Windows to report that the controller is connected, then test it in the game or app you intend to use.
Windows labels can vary between releases and manufacturer utilities, so the exact wording of the Bluetooth screen may differ. The material point is that the PC connection described by Microsoft is Bluetooth on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Button mapping with Xbox Accessories
Microsoft says button mapping is available in the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 10 and Windows 11. A compatible USB-C cable is required for the app connection. Bluetooth alone is therefore not the complete requirement if you want to configure the controller in that app.
- Install or open the Xbox Accessories app on the Windows PC.
- Connect the Nano with a compatible USB-C cable.
- Use the controller profile and button-mapping controls shown by the app to assign supported shortcuts.
- Save the profile before disconnecting the cable, then test the assignments in the intended game or app.
The programmable Action Button can be customized for screenshots, gameplay capture and other shortcuts. The available assignments are controlled by the app and Microsoft’s supported profile options; do not assume that every keyboard command or game-specific action can be assigned.
Android and iOS compatibility
Android and iOS are listed as compatible through Bluetooth. This covers compatible phones and tablets, but Microsoft explicitly limits the statement to selected devices and versions and warns that some functionality may not be supported.

Connecting a phone or tablet
- Enable Bluetooth in the device’s settings.
- Put the Nano Controller into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Select the controller in the device’s available-Bluetooth-device list.
- Open the game or cloud-gaming app and choose the controller input option if the app provides one.
There is no complete official matrix of Android models, iPhone or iPad generations, operating-system builds, or supported mobile features. Consequently, “works with Android” and “works with iOS” should be read as platform-level compatibility, not a guarantee for every handset or every controller function.
Why mobile behavior can differ
- Individual games decide which controller inputs they recognize.
- Some operating-system versions or device models may not expose every feature.
- Shortcuts such as screenshots or capture may not map the same way outside the Xbox ecosystem.
- Bluetooth pairing can succeed even when a particular game does not support a controller.
If a phone sees the Nano but a game does not, first test another controller-compatible game or app. That separates a Bluetooth connection problem from an app-level input limitation.
Smart TV and cloud-gaming support
Compatible Smart TVs are supported over Bluetooth. Microsoft does not publish a complete model list, so TV compatibility must be checked against the television maker’s Bluetooth game-controller support and the app being used.

Xbox Wire also says the controller can be used with the Xbox app on Samsung TVs with Gaming Hub in select regions. It describes US holiday offers pairing the controller with select Samsung TVs and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members, plus a separate US Meta Quest offer. Those promotions have regional eligibility, dates and terms that require verification; they should not be treated as universal Nano compatibility requirements or permanent benefits.

Using the Nano with a TV
- Open the TV’s Bluetooth-accessory settings.
- Put the Nano into Bluetooth pairing mode and select it from the TV’s device list.
- Launch the supported Xbox or cloud-gaming app and verify that controller input is enabled.
- If the TV pairs but the app does not respond, check the app’s supported-controller list and the TV’s firmware before assuming the Nano is defective.
The published information confirms compatible Smart TVs as a category, not every television model, region or cloud-gaming service.
Do you need to buy a USB-C cable?
Yes. Microsoft says the cable is required and sold separately. The Nano has an internal rechargeable battery, so the cable is needed to recharge it. Microsoft also specifies a compatible USB-C cable for connecting the controller to the Xbox Accessories app on Windows.
That creates two separate cable-related uses:
- Charging: recharge the controller’s internal battery.
- Windows configuration: connect to Xbox Accessories for button mapping and supported profile management.
The official product information does not state a cable length, charging wattage, battery capacity or recharge time. Do not infer those specifications from the controller’s USB-C connector.

Physical size, controls and programmable features
Xbox Wire describes the Nano as a little over 5 inches long and 3.5 ounces, calling it Microsoft’s smallest controller and saying it is lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones. Those measurements come from Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2026 announcement.

The controller has 18 standard gameplay inputs. It also includes a programmable Action Button that can be customized for screenshots, gameplay capture and other shortcuts. The Action Button’s assignments are a customization feature, not a promise that every platform or game will support every shortcut.

Price, release date and preorder timing
Microsoft Store information for 2026 lists the US price at $49.99 and the US release date as November 4, 2026. Xbox Wire says preorders began October 14, 2026, and Microsoft Store pages showed preorder availability.
Those are US listings. They do not establish a worldwide price, release date, retailer inventory or launch-day availability in another country. Since the listed release date is still in the future as of October 20, 2026, buyers should confirm the store’s current delivery estimate and whether the USB-C cable is included before ordering.
Common compatibility problems and fixes
The Xbox does not find the controller
- Confirm that the console is an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One model covered by the official support statement.
- Repeat the console’s Xbox Wireless pairing flow with the controller close to the console.
- Charge the internal battery with a compatible USB-C cable before trying again.
Windows pairs over Bluetooth but Xbox Accessories does not see it
- Connect the Nano to the PC with a compatible USB-C cable.
- Open Xbox Accessories after the wired connection is established.
- Check that Windows recognizes the controller before attempting button mapping.
A phone or tablet connects but a game ignores input
- Verify that the game supports Bluetooth controllers.
- Test another supported game or app to determine whether the issue is app-specific.
- Remember that Microsoft’s mobile support applies to selected devices and versions, and some functionality may be unavailable.
The Smart TV pairs but cloud gaming does not respond
- Confirm that the TV is a compatible model and that its Bluetooth settings show the controller as connected.
- Check the cloud-gaming app’s controller support and the TV’s software version.
- Do not assume that a promotion or Xbox app feature available in one region is available in another.
Is the Nano a good fit for your setup?
Choose it when you need one small, light controller that officially spans Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11, mobile devices and compatible Smart TVs. Its 3.5-ounce body, just-over-5-inch length and programmable Action Button are the clearest differentiators documented by Xbox Wire.
Plan for an extra USB-C cable, and treat mobile and TV support as conditional rather than universal. The official information does not provide a complete device matrix, battery-life figure or cable specification, so those details should not be assumed when deciding whether it fits a particular phone, television or travel setup.
