The first-party XBOX Nano Controller is Microsoft’s compact wireless gamepad, built around an internal rechargeable battery, Xbox Wireless, and Bluetooth. You need a separate USB-C cable to charge it. Xbox documents wireless and Bluetooth play, but does not currently confirm USB-C wired gameplay. It works with Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, Android, iOS and compatible smart TVs, while the warranty duration and claim process have not been published on the reviewed Xbox or Microsoft Store pages.
Xbox Nano Controller at a glance
The XBOX Nano Controller is an entry-level, rechargeable controller in a smaller-than-standard shell. Xbox Wire describes it as Xbox’s smallest controller, measuring a little over 5 inches in length and weighing 3.5 ounces. The U.S. launch price is $49.99, with availability beginning in November 2026 in listed markets. Microsoft says additional markets will follow, so both price and release timing can differ by country.

How do you charge the Xbox Nano Controller?
Charge it through the USB-C port using a compatible USB-C cable. The official Xbox specification says, “Requires USB-C cable for charging (sold separately),” and the Microsoft Store listing repeats that the cable is not included with the controller. The rechargeable battery is built into the controller, so you do not remove or replace a battery pack during normal use.

- Obtain a suitable USB-C charging cable. Check the package contents before buying: Xbox’s published specification makes clear that the controller itself does not supply the cable.
- Insert the USB-C connector into the controller’s charging port without forcing it. Connect the other end to a powered USB port or another charger that is appropriate for the cable and device.
- Leave the controller connected while the battery charges. Xbox’s published pages do not state a charging time, battery capacity, or a guaranteed playtime figure, so do not plan around an unofficial estimate.
- Disconnect the cable when you are ready to play wirelessly, then pair the controller through the connection method supported by your device.
Neither the product specification nor the launch announcement gives a battery-life rating, charge-time target, LED sequence, or low-battery warning procedure. Those details may appear in a later manual or support article. Until they do, the reliable purchasing requirement is simply that you budget for a separate USB-C cable.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If it does not appear to charge
- Try another known-good USB-C cable and another powered USB port. A cable that fits physically is not proof that it is working correctly.
- Inspect the port for debris and make sure the connector is fully seated. Do not scrape inside the port with metal tools.
- Allow a depleted controller some time on power before attempting to pair it.
- If charging still fails, keep your receipt and contact the seller or Microsoft support through the regional support route supplied with your purchase. Xbox has not published a Nano-specific fault procedure in the material available for this launch.
Can you use the Xbox Nano Controller wired while it is plugged in?
That feature is not confirmed. Xbox documents USB-C as a charging requirement, while it separately lists Xbox Wireless for Xbox consoles and Bluetooth for Windows 10/11 PCs, tablets, iOS, Android and compatible smart TVs. The reviewed first-party pages do not say that connecting USB-C changes the controller into a wired USB data controller.
For buying and setup decisions, treat wireless or Bluetooth as the documented gameplay connections. A USB-C connection may power or charge the controller, but you should not promise yourself wired input, reduced latency or play without pairing until Microsoft publishes a manual or support page that explicitly confirms data use over USB.
What to do if you connect the cable during a game
- Connect the USB-C cable and check whether the controller continues responding through its already-established wireless connection.
- Do not assume that continued power means the console or computer is receiving USB input; charging and data are separate functions.
- If the controller stops responding, reconnect it wirelessly using the device’s normal Xbox Wireless or Bluetooth pairing flow.
- Use a different cable only to rule out a cable fault; it does not establish that the Nano supports wired gameplay.
This distinction matters when comparing the Nano with a controller designed and sold as wired. A wired product normally advertises its USB data connection and often includes a permanently available cable. The Nano’s official description does neither.

Can two people play multiplayer with the Xbox Nano Controller?
Yes, the controller is intended for solo play and for sharing games with friends and family. Xbox’s launch material gives Minecraft Dungeons II as a concrete example: the game can bring together up to four heroes for local co-op in the living room or for online play. “Up to four” is a limit for that game mode, not a universal limit imposed by the Nano’s hardware.
What you need for local multiplayer
- One compatible controller for each local player. The Nano can serve as a primary controller, a shared controller or a backup, but one unit does not create multiple simultaneous inputs.
- A game that supports local multiplayer on the platform and edition you are using. The game, not the controller alone, determines the number of local participants.
- Enough console, PC or television pairing capacity for the selected controllers. Device and game limits can differ.
- Separate game accounts or profiles if the game requires them for joining, progression or online access.
Local co-op versus online multiplayer
Local co-op means players use the same screen and connect their controllers to the same host device. Online multiplayer can involve players on other devices and may require the game’s own online service or subscription. The Nano’s compatibility does not guarantee that every game supports either mode, cross-play or four players.
Which devices does the Xbox Nano Controller work with?
Xbox lists the XBOX Nano Controller for XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX on PC, Windows, Android and iOS. Xbox describes Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth as the ways it connects across compatible devices. Compatibility remains dependent on the device, operating-system version, game and connection method.

Xbox consoles
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One are named platforms. On a console, use the Xbox Wireless connection described by Xbox. The product page’s platform listing does not mean every accessory feature or every game mode is identical across console generations; check the specific game and console software when a feature matters.

Windows 10/11 PCs are included in the published Bluetooth compatibility statement, and Xbox on PC is listed as a platform. A Windows machine still needs compatible Bluetooth hardware for Bluetooth pairing, and individual games can expose different controller settings or support levels.
Android and iPhone or iPad
Android and iOS are listed mobile platforms. Pairing and game support depend on the operating system, the game and whether the title accepts a physical controller. A game that runs on a phone is not automatically guaranteed to recognize every controller input.

Smart TVs and cloud play
Xbox says select Samsung TVs can use the Xbox app’s Gaming Hub for cloud play, with a controller connected in select regions. This is a regional and device-specific cloud-gaming example, not a claim that every smart TV supports the Nano. Confirm that your television model, region, Xbox app and game are supported before relying on it as a console replacement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What warranty does the Xbox Nano Controller have?
The reviewed first-party Xbox product page, Xbox Wire launch announcement and Microsoft Store listing do not state a warranty duration or publish a Nano-specific claim procedure. There is therefore no confirmed number of warranty years to quote for this controller yet. Coverage can also depend on the country where you buy it, the seller and the terms supplied with the unit.
How to protect a warranty claim
- Keep the purchase receipt, order confirmation and the controller’s serial or product information.
- Record the seller, purchase country and purchase date, because regional consumer-law rights may apply separately from a manufacturer warranty.
- Use the support and warranty route shown in the paperwork or on the regional Microsoft support site for your purchase rather than relying on a term published for a different controller.
- Describe the fault precisely: charging failure, pairing failure, button or stick problem, or physical damage. Do not assume that a cable or battery issue receives the same treatment as accidental damage.
Do not transfer warranty information from another compact Xbox-style controller to the XBOX Nano. The warranty term remains unpublished in the reviewed first-party materials.

Is the Xbox Nano the same as the PowerA Nano wired controller?
No. The names overlap, but they describe separate products from different manufacturers. The XBOX Nano Controller is Microsoft’s wireless, rechargeable model. The PowerA Nano Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox is a third-party wired controller with its own accessories and warranty.
| Feature | XBOX Nano Controller | PowerA Nano Enhanced Wired Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer and product type | Microsoft first-party compact wireless controller | PowerA third-party wired controller |
| Power and connection | Internal rechargeable battery; Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth are documented; USB-C is specified for charging | Detachable 10-foot USB cable for wired operation |
| Cable supplied | USB-C charging cable sold separately | Manufacturer manual says a detachable 10-foot USB cable is included |
| Warranty information | Duration and claim process not stated in the reviewed Xbox materials | Manufacturer manual states a two-year limited warranty |
The two-year term belongs to the PowerA manual and must not be presented as Microsoft’s warranty for the XBOX Nano. Likewise, the presence of a detachable data cable on the PowerA model does not prove that the XBOX Nano supports USB wired input.
Who should buy the XBOX Nano Controller?
The Nano makes the most sense if you want a very small, light controller and are comfortable playing wirelessly. Its documented platform range also makes it a candidate for a shared controller, a spare for a console, or mobile and compatible-TV cloud play.
Quick Recap
Good reasons to choose it
- You prefer a compact controller measuring a little over 5 inches and weighing 3.5 ounces.
- You want an internal rechargeable battery rather than disposable cells.
- You need Xbox Wireless for consoles and Bluetooth access to compatible PCs, phones, tablets or TVs.
- You expect to share a controller for supported local or online games.
Reasons to wait or verify first
- You require guaranteed wired play over USB-C.
- You need a published battery-life figure, charging time or included cable.
- You need a clearly stated warranty duration before purchasing.
- You are buying outside the initial listed markets and need confirmed local stock, pricing or release timing.
Xbox Nano Controller buying and setup checklist
- Confirm that your country and retailer have a November 2026 launch listing or a later official availability date.
- Check the local price instead of converting the $49.99 U.S. launch figure; Xbox says prices and availability vary by country.
- Buy a compatible USB-C charging cable, since Xbox says it is sold separately.
- Decide whether Xbox Wireless or Bluetooth is the correct connection for your device.
- Check the game’s controller and multiplayer support, especially if you need local co-op.
- Read the regional purchase terms and retain proof of purchase because a Nano-specific warranty duration is not yet published on the reviewed pages.
Common misunderstandings to avoid
- “Rechargeable” means a cable is included. It does not here; the official specification says the USB-C cable is sold separately.
- “USB-C” means wired gameplay. Xbox has documented USB-C for charging, not confirmed USB data input.
- “Up to four heroes” is a controller limit. The four-player example comes from Minecraft Dungeons II’s supported mode.
- “Xbox Nano” and “Nano wired controller” are interchangeable names. They can refer to Microsoft’s wireless product or PowerA’s separate wired product.
- A warranty term from another Nano controller applies automatically. Microsoft’s published Nano warranty duration is not stated in the reviewed materials.
