The XBOX Nano Controller is a compact, rechargeable wireless gamepad for Xbox consoles and a range of Bluetooth devices. Xbox has confirmed USB-C charging, but its published specifications do not confirm that the USB-C port carries gameplay input. Multiplayer capability depends on the game; Xbox specifically cites up to four heroes in Minecraft Dungeons II local or online co-op.
The US Microsoft Store lists the controller at $49.99 with a November 4, 2026 release date and pre-order availability. Country, retailer, tax and shipping differences can change the final price or timing.

What the Xbox Nano Controller is
Xbox describes the XBOX Nano Controller as a small wireless controller intended to fit in nearly every pocket and budget. James Hunter, General Manager of Xbox Accessories, introduced it with the line: “Today, we’re introducing the XBOX Nano Controller, designed to fit nearly every pocket and budget.” The launch information says the controller is a little over five inches long, weighs 3.5 ounces and includes all 18 standard gameplay inputs.
Those measurements make the Nano substantially more travel-oriented than a conventional full-size pad, but they do not by themselves prove that every player will find it comfortable. Hand size, preferred thumbstick spacing, grip style and the type of game you play all matter. Xbox has not published a separate ergonomic test or a universal hand-size recommendation.

Which devices are compatible?
Xbox lists the Nano Controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, Android devices and iOS devices. The same connectivity information distinguishes Xbox Wireless from Bluetooth: Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless, while Windows PCs, tablets, iOS, Android and compatible smart TVs can connect through Bluetooth.
| Device category | Connection identified by Xbox | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox Wireless | Use the console’s Xbox Wireless pairing process. |
| Xbox One | Xbox Wireless | Compatibility is listed for Xbox One; console software and accessories settings can affect pairing. |
| Windows 10/11 PC | Bluetooth | Bluetooth capability and the PC’s Windows version must support the controller. |
| Android phones and tablets | Bluetooth | Android hardware and OS support vary by model and version. |
| iPhone and iPad | Bluetooth | iOS or iPadOS version and device support can affect functionality. |
| Compatible smart TVs | Bluetooth | Only smart TVs that support the controller and the relevant game or cloud app will work. |
“Compatible” does not mean that every feature works identically everywhere. Xbox cautions that some mobile and Bluetooth functionality may not be supported on every device or software version. A phone can discover a controller yet still lack support for a particular button, vibration feature or game. Check the game’s own controller requirements when a mobile title does not respond as expected.
How to connect the Nano Controller
Xbox consoles
- Turn on the Xbox console and the controller.
- Start the console’s normal wireless-controller pairing process, then put the Nano into pairing mode using the controller’s pairing control.
- Choose the controller when it appears in the console’s device prompt and wait for the connection to complete.
- Launch a game and verify movement, buttons and menus before handing the controller to another player.
The exact on-screen wording can differ between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S system updates. If pairing fails, move the controller close to the console, make sure its internal battery has charge and remove other nearby wireless devices that could complicate discovery.
Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Open Settings and select Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on and choose Add device, then select Bluetooth.
- Put the controller into pairing mode and select it when its name appears.
- Open the game or controller test page and check every required input.
Windows may remember an earlier pairing. If the Nano appears in the saved-device list but will not connect, remove that entry, restart Bluetooth and pair again. A PC without Bluetooth needs a compatible Bluetooth adapter; Xbox’s compatibility listing does not include a specific adapter model.

Android, iOS and tablets
- Open the device’s Bluetooth settings and enable Bluetooth.
- Put the controller into pairing mode.
- Select the controller from the list of available devices.
- Open the intended game and confirm that its controller-support setting is enabled.
Mobile operating systems can restrict controller features by version. If the controller pairs but a game ignores it, update the device and game where possible, disconnect other gamepads and check the game’s support documentation before assuming the Nano is defective.
Compatible smart TVs
Smart-TV support is conditional rather than universal. The television must expose Bluetooth controller pairing, and the game or cloud-gaming application running on it must accept a gamepad. Pair through the TV’s Bluetooth-accessory menu, then test inside the specific app. A TV that can pair Bluetooth headphones is not automatically guaranteed to support a controller.
Charging: what USB-C does and does not establish
The Nano has an internal rechargeable battery. Xbox states that a USB-C cable is required for charging and that the cable is sold separately, so the listed package should not be treated as including a charging lead unless a retailer explicitly says otherwise.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Use a suitable USB-C cable and connect it to the controller’s USB-C port.
- Connect the other end to a compatible powered USB source.
- Leave the controller connected until its charging indicator or the console’s accessory status shows that charging is complete.
- Disconnect the cable when you are ready to return to wireless use.
Xbox has not published a battery-capacity figure, charging time or battery-life estimate in the material available for this launch. Do not use a battery-hours claim from another controller as a substitute. Battery duration will vary with use, wireless conditions and the age of the cell.

Can you play with the Nano plugged in?
Microsoft’s published specifications identify Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth as connection methods and mention USB-C for charging and Xbox Accessories app use. They do not state that USB-C carries gameplay input. Therefore, wired gameplay should be treated as unconfirmed: plugging in the cable may charge the controller or enable accessory-app communication, but Xbox has not promised that a game will receive inputs through the cable.
If you need a guaranteed wired controller for a particular setup, wait for an explicit Microsoft statement or confirmation for the exact software and platform. Do not buy the Nano on the assumption that a charging cable automatically turns it into a wired gamepad.
Multiplayer and player counts
The Nano can be used for solo play or shared play, but the controller itself does not set a universal player limit. Each game decides how many local or online players it supports, and every simultaneous local player normally needs a separately connected controller.

Before planning a couch session, check the game’s player-count and platform-support information.

Setting up a local session
- Connect each Nano or other compatible controller to the host console or device.
- Start a game mode marked local, couch or split-screen multiplayer.
- Have each participant press the game’s join or profile button when prompted.
- Confirm that the game shows the expected number of players before beginning.
Online co-op can have different requirements, such as separate accounts, subscriptions or invitations. Those requirements belong to the game and platform service, not to the Nano’s hardware specification.
Is it suitable for smaller hands?
The strongest evidence is physical rather than clinical: Xbox says the controller is a little over five inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces. A shorter, lighter body can reduce reach for someone who finds a full-size controller tiring, and its pocket-oriented design may appeal to children, travelers or players with limited grip strength.
There are also trade-offs. A compact shell can place sticks, triggers and face buttons closer together than a player expects. Larger hands may feel cramped, while players accustomed to a full-size controller may need time to adjust muscle memory. Xbox has not published stick spacing, trigger travel, shell width, vibration behavior or a formal accessibility assessment, so comfort cannot be guaranteed from length and weight alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Consider the Nano if reach and carrying weight are your main concerns.
- Try the complete control layout in a game that uses all 18 standard inputs before committing to long sessions.
- Check return terms when buying for a child or for someone with specific hand-mobility needs.
Price, release date and regional availability
The US Microsoft Store lists a price of $49.99 and a November 4, 2026 release date, with pre-order availability shown in the listing. Those figures describe the US store listing in 2026. Prices, taxes, shipping, stock and release timing can differ in other countries and at other retailers.
Best Value

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
A pre-order listing is not the same as proof that every region will receive stock on the same day. Confirm the seller’s delivery estimate, supported platform wording and included contents. In particular, budget separately for a USB-C charging cable because Xbox says it is required and sold separately.
Specifications Xbox has not confirmed
Several details commonly requested in controller shopping guides are not established by the published Nano information:
- No official battery-life duration in hours.
- No USB-C wired-gameplay confirmation.
- No published confirmation of vibration or rumble behavior.
- No universal multiplayer player limit.
- No complete statement that every Bluetooth feature works on every listed phone, tablet, PC or smart TV.
These omissions do not mean the features are absent; they mean they should not be promised as specifications. Treat retailer copy that supplies a precise battery number, rumble claim or wired-mode guarantee as unverified unless Microsoft or Xbox updates its documentation.
Quick Recap
Practical buying checklist
- Match the controller to your platform: Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless, while the listed PC, mobile, tablet and compatible-TV connections use Bluetooth.
- Confirm your operating-system version and the game’s controller support.
- Plan for a separate USB-C cable.
- Decide whether wireless play is acceptable because wired gameplay is not confirmed.
- For multiplayer, check the individual game’s local and online player limits.
- For smaller hands, weigh the 3.5-ounce, slightly-over-five-inch design against the lack of published ergonomic measurements.
- For a US purchase, use $49.99 and November 4, 2026 only as the Microsoft Store reference, then verify your region’s current listing.
