The XBOX Nano Controller is the value pick for Xbox owners who want a genuinely wireless, rechargeable gamepad in a very small shell. Microsoft lists it at $49.99 ahead of its U.S. Microsoft Store release on November 4, 2026. Backbone One is the simpler phone-first option: it plugs directly into an iPhone or Android phone, needs no pairing or controller battery, and starts at a lower price on Backbone’s comparison page. Razer’s Kishi Ultra costs far more—$149.99 reported MSRP—but adds full-size ergonomics, Hall Effect triggers, haptics, audio output and support for tablets. The apparent $100 difference is therefore a comparison of different designs, not three interchangeable controllers.
What is the Xbox Nano Controller, and who is it for?
The XBOX Nano is a compact Xbox-compatible wireless controller rather than a telescoping phone grip. Xbox Wireless handles console connections, while Bluetooth supports compatible Windows PCs, tablets, iOS and Android devices, and selected Smart TVs. Microsoft describes a body a little over 5 inches long, a 3.5-ounce weight and 18 standard gameplay inputs.

The controller also has an internal rechargeable battery, so it is not powered by the phone during play. Microsoft says the USB-C charging cable required to recharge it is sold separately; budget for a cable if you do not already own one. Battery runtime is not published on the official announcement, so no reliable hours-per-charge comparison can be made.
When does the Nano become available?
The U.S. Microsoft Store listing shows November 4, 2026. Until that date, treat listings as pre-order or planned-availability information rather than proof that retail stock is shipping. Regional release timing and inventory can differ.

How does Backbone One differ from the Nano?
Backbone One is built around the phone as the primary screen. Its Lightning or USB-C plug connects directly to the handset, which avoids Bluetooth pairing and means the controller itself has no rechargeable battery to maintain. Pass-through charging lets you charge the phone while playing.
Backbone’s comparison page lists One from $69.99, while its Lightning second-generation product page lists $99.99. Connector, generation, sales and region can change the amount, so check the listing that matches your phone before buying. The One does not use Bluetooth; the wired connection is its defining trade-off.

The Backbone app brings together Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, Xbox, PlayStation and PC remote play, plus other controller-compatible services. That organization is useful if you move among cloud and remote-play apps, but the controller remains dependent on a phone with the correct Lightning or USB-C port.
Is Backbone One better for Xbox Cloud Gaming?
For a phone-only Xbox Cloud Gaming setup, usually yes: the direct wired connection removes a separate wireless pairing step and the app can surface supported services in one place. It does not replace an Xbox console controller, however, and it cannot connect to an Xbox over Xbox Wireless.

What does the Razer Kishi Ultra add for its premium price?
Razer positions the Kishi Ultra as a full-size mobile controller. Its documented hardware includes Hall Effect analog triggers, mecha-tactile buttons, extra bumpers, 3.5 mm audio and Sensa HD haptics on Android 12 or later and Windows 11. It connects over USB-C and supports 15 W pass-through charging.
Device coverage is broader than a typical phone clamp: Razer lists iPhone and Android support, USB-C PC play, iPad mini compatibility and Android tablets up to 8 inches. Those features explain why the Ultra is physically larger and why its reported $149.99 MSRP is not a like-for-like price against the Nano.

Which one should Xbox players buy?
Choose the XBOX Nano if
- You need direct Xbox console compatibility through Xbox Wireless.
- You want a pocketable controller under $50 with a built-in rechargeable battery.
- Small dimensions and a 3.5-ounce weight matter more than tablet support or advanced haptics.
Choose Backbone One if
- Your phone is the main gaming screen and you prefer a plug-and-play wired connection.
- You use Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW or remote-play services and want them organized in one app.
- You want pass-through phone charging and do not want to recharge a controller.
Choose Razer Kishi Ultra if
- You want a larger, console-like grip with Hall Effect triggers, tactile buttons and haptics.
- You need 3.5 mm headphones, USB-C PC play or support for an iPad mini/Android tablet up to 8 inches.
- You accept a premium price and have confirmed the current sale price and device fit.
What should you check before ordering?
- Confirm the target screen or console. Nano is the only option here with documented Xbox Wireless console support; Backbone and Kishi Ultra are wired mobile designs.
- Match the connector. Select Backbone’s Lightning model for older iPhones or USB-C for USB-C iPhones, Android phones and compatible devices. Kishi Ultra requires USB-C.
- Account for charging hardware. Nano needs a separately sold USB-C cable. Backbone and Kishi Ultra pass power through to the phone, but the phone still needs its own charger.
- Check software and regional details. Kishi Ultra haptics require Android 12+ or Windows 11, and Nano availability is initially listed for the U.S. Microsoft Store.
- Recheck volatile prices. The $49.99 Nano price is Microsoft’s stated launch price; Backbone prices vary by listing, and $149.99 for Kishi Ultra is a reported MSRP rather than a confirmed live checkout total.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Xbox Nano work with an iPhone?
Microsoft documents Bluetooth support for iOS, so the Nano can work with compatible iPhones as a wireless controller. It is not a physical phone mount, and the phone game or service must support a Bluetooth gamepad.

No. A controller can operate compatible locally installed games, remote-play software or other services without a Game Pass subscription. Xbox Cloud Gaming access itself depends on Microsoft’s current service requirements and account eligibility.
Can Backbone One connect to an Xbox console?
No. Backbone One is a wired mobile controller that connects to a phone through Lightning or USB-C. It can control Xbox remote play from the phone, but it is not an Xbox Wireless console gamepad.

What is the practical advantage of Hall Effect triggers?
Hall Effect sensing is designed to measure trigger position without the conventional contact method used in many controls. Razer lists the feature on Kishi Ultra; the specification alone does not establish a particular durability or accuracy improvement.
