To change who can see your Xbox activity, open Xbox’s Privacy & online safety settings, sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile, and use the Online Status & History section. Set Others can see your game and app history to Everybody, Friends, or Block. If you also want to hide the game you are playing now, change Others can see if you’re online separately.
Those controls address activity visibility, but Xbox does not clearly establish that blocking game-and-app history also hides achievements. Treat achievement privacy as a separate item to verify from another account after saving your choices.

The most dependable documented route is Xbox’s web settings page. You do not need an Xbox console to reach this page, but you do need to sign in with the Microsoft account used by the Xbox profile whose visibility you want to change.
- Open xbox.com/en-US/user/settings/privacy-and-safety.
- Sign in when Xbox prompts for your Microsoft account. An unsigned visitor is redirected to sign-in and then returned to the settings address.
- Confirm that the signed-in account is the profile you intend to edit. Microsoft accounts can be associated with different Xbox profiles, so do not assume the browser’s existing session is the right one.
- Find Online Status & History.
- Locate Others can see your game and app history, choose the audience you want, and complete any confirmation or save action shown by the current page.
- If you want to control your live presence as well, review Others can see if you’re online in the same area. That is a separate setting.
The wording above comes from an October 2025 U.S. Special Operations Command guide that reproduces Xbox privacy controls. Xbox can revise labels or page layout, so follow the equivalent label if capitalization or surrounding text differs on the live page.

The Xbox-owned privacy-and-safety page is an account-settings entry point: it can send an unsigned visitor to Microsoft sign-in and return to the settings address afterward. The signed-in controls themselves were not accessible during review, so the labels and choices described here are based on the October 2025 guide, not a live test of the authenticated page in 2026. Treat the current page as authoritative if its wording or available choices have changed.
This is an account task, not a hardware task. You can use the web route without buying a console, controller, or game. Make sure you are editing the Xbox profile whose sharing you want to change before selecting an audience; privacy choices made under another account will not address the intended profile.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat do Everybody, Friends, and Block mean for game-and-app history?
These three choices set the intended audience for past game-and-app activity. They do not, by themselves, decide whether people can see that you are online right now or what you are currently running.
| Setting | Audience for game-and-app history | When it fits | Does not decide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everybody | Anyone covered by the profile’s visibility can see the history. | Use when you are comfortable making your play history broadly visible. | Your separate online-presence and current-game setting. |
| Friends | Your Xbox friends are the intended audience. | Use when you want friends to see your past activity but not a wider audience. | Whether a friend can see you online at this moment. |
| Block | Blocks the documented audience for game-and-app history. | Use when you want the narrowest documented history audience. | Whether achievements remain visible, or whether your current game is visible. |
The guide’s wording is Decide who can see your game and app history. It describes the audience choices as Everybody, Friends, and Block. Because this is a privacy control for past activity, changing it should not be treated as a replacement for the separate online-status control.
Choose between these options based on the audience you actually want for history. Everybody is the broadest of the documented choices; Friends narrows the intended audience to your Xbox friends; and Block is the most restrictive documented choice for this history control. The guide does not describe these options as a switch for every piece of profile information, so do not assume one selection governs all profile details.
Also avoid substituting a setting about seeing other people’s Xbox profiles. That setting describes your ability to view other profiles; it is not the audience choice for your own past game-and-app activity. Read each setting’s subject and direction before changing it: “who can see your history” is different from “whose profiles can you see.”
How do I hide the game I am playing on Xbox?
Change the online-presence control as well as the history control. In Online Status & History, review Others can see if you’re online; the surrounding Xbox controls also address the game or app you are using now.
Think of the two decisions as a timeline:
- Now: whether people can see that you are online and the game or app currently in use.
- Earlier: whether people can see your game-and-app history.
For example, setting history to Block while leaving online visibility open can still disclose your current presence. Conversely, limiting online visibility does not automatically remove older activity from a profile. Review both controls before leaving the page.
If your goal is only to hide what you are playing at this moment, focus on the online-status/current-activity choice and leave the history audience as you intend it. If your goal is to limit both what is happening now and what you played previously, review both settings. Neither choice should be treated as a universal privacy switch for achievements or every item on your profile.
Does blocking game history hide Xbox achievements?
Xbox’s documented history choices do not establish a guaranteed achievement outcome. An October 2025 U.S. government guide says Xbox profiles may include game history and achievements, but it does not show that achievements follow the same audience setting or confirm a separate achievement toggle.

Use the history control for the purpose it names: limiting game-and-app history. For achievements, verify the result rather than promising that Block removes them.
- Set the desired history and online-presence audiences.
- Complete the page’s displayed save or confirmation action.
- View the profile from a different account that represents the audience you are checking, such as a friend account or an account that is not connected to you.
- Check the profile’s achievement and activity areas separately. If an item remains visible, return to the privacy page and look for a control specifically describing achievements or profile details.
This check is a practical way to confirm what another account can see; it is not a guarantee that every Xbox surface, game-specific service, or future interface will display the same information. Avoid assuming that a hidden history list and hidden achievement details are identical.
The distinction matters because a profile may contain both history and achievements, but their presence together does not prove they use the same visibility rule. The guide does not establish that choosing Block for game-and-app history also removes achievement details, nor does it verify a dedicated achievements audience control. If achievements are the reason you are changing settings, make that the specific item you test rather than judging only whether a game-history list has disappeared.
What is the difference between my profile visibility and viewing other people’s profiles?
They are different privacy decisions. A setting that controls whether you can see other people’s Xbox profiles does not set the audience for your own game-and-app history.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The October 2025 guide describes profiles as potentially containing game history and achievements, but it does not verify a one-to-one achievement switch. When reviewing the page, read the subject of each setting:
- Your activity: controls such as Others can see your game and app history concern what other people can see about you.
- Your current presence: controls such as Others can see if you’re online concern your live status and current game or app.
- Other people’s profiles: a “see other people’s Xbox profiles” control concerns your ability to view them, not the audience for your own history.
Choosing the wrong category can leave your intended audience unchanged, even if the page accepts the setting.
When checking a privacy page, ask who is the subject of the sentence and what is being shared. “Others can see your…” describes visibility of your information. “See other people’s…” describes your viewing access. These similar-looking profile controls are not interchangeable, and changing one should not be treated as confirmation that the other has changed.
How do I manage a child’s Xbox privacy settings?
Parents and guardians can use the official Xbox Family Settings app to manage child gaming accounts. Xbox describes controls for communication, friends, multiplayer, and activity reporting, with support for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One console gaming.

For a child’s public-facing activity, review the child profile’s privacy and online-safety choices through the Microsoft family-management flow, then use the Xbox web settings page when Xbox directs you there. Keep parental activity reports and public profile visibility as separate checks.
The app’s purpose is broader family management, not a dedicated achievement-privacy report. A daily or weekly activity report tells a parent what a child played during that period; it does not establish what friends or other Xbox users can see on the child’s profile. Likewise, restricting the audience for public history does not establish whether the parent’s report will still show that activity.
For a parent, that means two separate questions may need attention: what the adult managing the family can review through Family Settings, and what the child’s profile presents to other people. The official FAQ explicitly says there is no child version of the app and that a child cannot sign into it using a child account. The app is intended for the parent or guardian managing the child account, and its listed console coverage is Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
What should I check if the setting does not seem to work?
Most apparent conflicts come from editing the wrong account or changing only one of the two activity controls. Work through these checks in order.
The page keeps sending me to sign-in
That is expected for an unsigned visitor. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the target Xbox profile, then confirm that the page returns to the privacy-and-safety settings address. If a browser has several Microsoft sessions, sign out of the unintended one before trying again.
I changed history, but people still see my current game
Review Others can see if you’re online. Game-and-app history describes past activity; online status and the game or app in use now are separate decisions.

I changed online visibility, but old games still appear
Review Others can see your game and app history. Limiting current presence does not establish that older history is removed.
An achievement is still visible
The available documentation does not confirm that the history audience governs achievements. Check for a profile or achievement-specific control in the current interface and verify from another account after saving. Do not infer a privacy result from the word “history” alone.
I changed “see other people’s profiles”
That setting concerns whose profiles you can view. Return to your own activity controls and change the audience for Others can see your game and app history instead.
The labels do not exactly match the guide
The guide is an October 2025 edition, while Xbox can update its web interface. Match the meaning of the control—history, current presence, or profile viewing—rather than relying only on capitalization or a nearby menu position.

I am managing a child account
Use the adult account in the Xbox Family Settings app for parental controls and reports. A child account cannot sign into that app, and a report showing play activity should not be treated as proof of public achievement visibility.
If the web page continues to show an unexpected result, consult Xbox’s current support entry for managing online-safety and privacy settings. The available support interface can require JavaScript and may present instructions that vary by console generation or account type.
A further check is to separate what you intended to hide from what you tested. If the concern is current presence, test whether the account can see that you are online or what you are playing now. If the concern is historical activity, inspect the history area. If the concern is achievements, inspect those separately. This avoids treating one visible or hidden item as proof about all three categories.
The October 2025 guide reproduces the phrase “Decide who can see your game and app history,” but exact capitalization and layout should be checked against Xbox’s current signed-in page. Xbox’s support article may also show a JavaScript-required shell, so avoid assuming that a particular console menu sequence applies to every account or interface version.
Which privacy combination should I choose?
Choose each audience according to the information you are willing to expose, not according to a single “private” switch.
You want friends to follow your gaming activity
Set game-and-app history to Friends. Decide separately whether those friends should see your online status and current game. This preserves a social audience for past activity without automatically making the same choice for live presence.
You want the narrowest documented history audience
Set game-and-app history to Block, then inspect online-presence visibility independently. Finally, verify what a different account can see, especially if achievements are the concern.
You want broad public activity sharing
Set history to Everybody and review the online-status choice so your live presence matches your intent. Remember that broad history visibility and achievement visibility are not proven to be the same control.

You only want to hide what is happening right now
Change the control for whether others can see that you are online and what you are using. Do not change history unless you also want to restrict older game-and-app activity.
A useful way to make the choice is to write down the audience for each item before changing anything: who should see past game-and-app history, who should see current online status and the game or app in use, and whether achievement details need a separate check. The documented choices in the guide apply to history. The current-presence decision is separate, and achievements remain an item to verify rather than a result to infer.

What Xbox’s documented controls do—and do not—establish
The documented settings clearly distinguish current presence from past game-and-app history and provide Everybody, Friends, and Block as history audiences. They do not, in the available material, establish a dedicated achievement audience selector or guarantee that blocking history removes achievement details from every profile view.
That distinction matters when you promise privacy to yourself, a friend, or a child. Change the named control, complete the page’s confirmation, and verify the resulting view from the audience you are trying to protect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Xbox return me to the sign-in page before showing privacy settings?
The web settings route requires an authenticated Microsoft account. Sign in with the account tied to the intended Xbox profile; with multiple Microsoft sessions open, the wrong session can return you to a different profile’s settings.
Can I hide my current game without changing my old activity?
Yes, treat live presence and history as separate decisions. Review the control for whether others can see that you are online and the game or app in use, while leaving the history audience unchanged if older activity may remain visible.
Are Xbox Family Settings activity reports visible to everyone?
The app’s daily and weekly reports are parental-management information for the adult managing a child account. They should not be interpreted as a public profile feed or as proof that achievements are exposed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy can someone view another Xbox profile when I restricted my activity?
Profile viewing and activity sharing are different settings. A control about seeing other people’s profiles governs your viewing access; it does not replace the audience choice for your own game-and-app history.
Who can see my Xbox game history?
The documented history choices are Everybody, Friends, and Block. Select the audience that matches your intent for past game-and-app activity, and review online-status visibility separately.
Can my friends still see my Xbox achievements if I block game history?
The documented material does not establish whether achievements follow the game-history audience or confirm a separate achievement control. After changing and saving settings, check the profile from a different account and inspect achievements separately.
How do I change my child’s Xbox privacy settings?
A parent or guardian can use Xbox Family Settings for child-account management, including communication, friends, multiplayer, and activity reports. Children cannot sign into the Family Settings app with a child account. Keep parental reports separate from the child profile’s public activity settings.
Do I need an Xbox console to change these settings?
The Xbox privacy-and-safety web page is an account-settings route, so a console is not required to reach it. Sign in with the Microsoft account for the Xbox profile you intend to edit.
The Bottom Line
Use Xbox’s web privacy page to choose an audience for game-and-app history, then review online status and current-game visibility separately. The documented history choices are Everybody, Friends, and Block; they do not establish what happens to achievements. Verify achievement visibility from another account, and keep a child’s Family Settings activity reports distinct from public profile visibility.
