The standard disc-based Xbox Series X now costs CAD $999.99 on the Microsoft Store Canada, compared with its CAD $599.99 launch ERP in November 2020. That is a nominal increase of CAD $400, or approximately 66.7%. The rounded “$1,000” description is accurate for the current list price, but “record-breaking” needs qualification: Microsoft also lists a separate Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition at CAD $1,149.99. The evidence supports a record high for the standard Series X listing, not an all-edition or all-retailer record.

Why did the Xbox Series X price rise in Canada?
Microsoft’s June 25, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement attributed a worldwide console price update to higher component costs. Team Xbox wrote: “Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.” Microsoft also said the wider consumer-electronics industry was facing a components crisis and that consoles are typically sold for less than their manufacturing cost.
Those are Microsoft’s stated reasons, not independently audited manufacturing-cost figures. The announcement specified a US$150 increase for 1TB models and said the 2TB model would be sunset, but it did not publish the final Canadian-dollar prices. The Canadian storefront is therefore the appropriate source for the current CAD amount rather than converting the US-dollar adjustment directly.

Is this the highest Xbox Series X price ever?
It is the highest listed price found for the standard Xbox Series X configuration in the cited Canadian storefront check. It is not the highest price among every Series X edition: Microsoft lists an Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition at CAD $1,149.99. That limited edition is a separate, collectible product, so the broad claim that the Xbox Series X has reached an all-time $1,000 ceiling needs that distinction.
What Xbox consoles can Canadian buyers choose instead?
The current Canadian comparison is not simply “disc Series X versus no console.” Buyers can trade optical media, graphics capability, storage and edition design against price.

| Model | Canadian list price checked | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X, 1TB disc | CAD $999.99 | 4K UHD Blu-ray drive, highest standard Series performance |
| Xbox Series X, 1TB Digital Edition | CAD $949.99 | CAD $50 less, but no disc drive |
| Xbox Series S, 512GB | CAD $649.99 | Lower-cost, digital-only model with less storage and performance |
| Xbox Series S, 1TB | CAD $749.99 | More storage than the 512GB version, still a lower performance tier |
| Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition | CAD $1,149.99 | Separate limited edition; highest listed price in this comparison |
Should you buy the CAD $999.99 disc model or the digital edition?
Choose the disc model if you own physical Xbox games, buy used discs, watch 4K UHD Blu-rays or want the option to resell physical games. The CAD $949.99 Digital Edition saves CAD $50 only if you are comfortable purchasing and accessing games digitally and have no need for an optical drive.
Both Series X variants occupy the same broad performance class in the supplied Canadian comparison; the decisive difference here is the drive, not a lower advertised Series X tier. Also account for the cost of games, subscriptions, storage and a second controller when comparing the real setup price.

- Confirm the edition: Make sure the listing says standard 1TB Series X, Digital Edition or X25 Limited Edition.
- Check the drive: The digital model cannot play discs, while the standard model includes a 4K UHD Blu-ray drive.
- Budget storage: Microsoft recommends the 1TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S when internal capacity is insufficient.
- Verify the seller and stock: Microsoft’s storefront list price is the clearest reference for the current Canadian amount; retailer pricing and availability can differ.
- Separate price from total cost: Add any required games, online service, extra controller and storage expansion to your personal budget.
What happened to the earlier Canadian prices reported in 2026?
A June 25, 2026 MobileSyrup report described pre-change Canadian prices of CAD $729.99 for the 1TB disc model and CAD $679.99 for the Digital Edition, while noting that Xbox had not yet confirmed Canadian post-change prices. Those figures belong to the pre-August reporting window and should not replace the CAD $999.99 and CAD $949.99 Microsoft Store listings checked in October.
Frequently Asked Questions
When did Microsoft announce the 2026 Xbox console price update?
Xbox Wire announced the worldwide update on June 25, 2026, with the change scheduled to take effect August 1. The announcement gave US-dollar adjustment bands rather than a final Canadian-dollar figure.
Also popular on Amazon
Does the standard Canadian Series X include a controller?
Yes. Microsoft’s Canadian product listing says the standard 1TB Series X includes one Xbox Wireless Controller. A second controller is an additional purchase for local multiplayer.
Can I expand Xbox Series X storage later?
Microsoft recommends its 1TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S. Expansion adds capacity but increases the overall cost beyond the console’s list price.
Why is the X25 Limited Edition more expensive than the standard model?
It is listed as a separate limited edition at CAD $1,149.99. The supplied pricing evidence does not establish a full specification or production-cost breakdown for that edition, so its higher price should not be treated as the standard model’s MSRP.
