Xbox Series X Stock: U.S. Availability, Prices, and Where to Buy

Xbox Series X is still officially sold in the U.S., but it is not uniformly in stock. Microsoft lists the 1TB Carbon Black, 1TB Digital Edition, and 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition; actual availability changes by model, retailer, seller, condition, and ZIP code. The fastest reliable check is to start with Microsoft’s catalog, then confirm the exact offer through shipping and checkout.

Xbox Series X stock: the direct answer

Xbox Series X is still an officially sold console in the United States, but that does not mean every model is continuously in stock. The latest official catalog and retailer evidence show uneven availability by SKU, seller, condition, and ZIP code. Microsoft lists the 1TB Carbon Black, 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White, and 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition, while refurbished and marketplace offers appear intermittently.

Use the Microsoft Xbox catalog as the starting point, then verify the exact retailer offer through shipping and checkout. A product page, a search result, or a tracker listing is not proof that a console is currently shippable to your address.

Current U.S. Xbox Series X models and prices

Microsoft’s U.S. catalog currently lists these starting prices. Prices below are catalog prices rather than a guarantee of live inventory, tax, shipping, or a retailer’s marketplace price.

Model Drive and storage Catalog starting price What to know
Xbox Series X 1TB Carbon Black Disc drive and 1TB SSD $649.99 The standard Series X configuration for buyers who want physical games and discs.
Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition No optical disc drive and 1TB SSD; Robot White $599.99 The least expensive new Series X configuration, but every game purchase must be digital.
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Disc drive and 2TB SSD $799.99 Twice the listed storage of the 1TB models and a $150 premium over the standard disc model.
Certified-refurbished 1TB Digital Edition No optical disc drive and 1TB SSD $499.99 when available A $100 reduction from the new Digital Edition, but inventory is intermittent.
Certified-refurbished 1TB Series X Disc drive and 1TB SSD $549.99 when available A $100 reduction from the new standard model; the checked Microsoft listing displayed out of stock.

The official product materials describe Series X as supporting 4K gaming, up to 120 frames per second, Quick Resume, and backward compatibility across four Xbox generations. Those capabilities describe the Series X platform; they should not be confused with a promise that every game runs at 4K or 120 FPS.

If you are beginning with the official purchase route, the Microsoft catalog’s Xbox Series X console listing is the best place to confirm which configurations Microsoft currently recognizes and whether a retailer-selection or Microsoft Store path is offered.

Which Series X model makes sense?

  • Choose the 1TB Carbon Black model if you own physical Xbox games, buy used discs, want a disc drive, or want the least expensive new disc-equipped Series X.
  • Choose the 1TB Digital Edition if your library is already digital and saving $50 compared with the standard model matters more than disc support. It has no optical drive, so a disc-based game cannot be added later through an accessory.
  • Choose the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition if you expect to keep a large installed library and also want a disc drive. It costs $200 more than the new Digital Edition and $150 more than the new 1TB disc model, so the extra storage is the main practical reason to pay the premium.
  • Consider certified refurbished only when the actual listing is available and the savings justify the reduced certainty of inventory. A refurbished console should not be treated as available merely because Microsoft’s catalog contains a refurbished product page.

Where to check Xbox Series X stock

  1. Start with Microsoft’s Xbox console catalog. It shows the current official configurations and may provide a retailer-selection path. Check whether the specific model can be added to the cart and shipped to your ZIP code.
  2. Search retailers by exact model. If Microsoft does not show a shippable unit, check Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop, and Amazon using the model name rather than a broad search such as Xbox stock. Search separately for the 1TB Carbon Black, 1TB Digital Edition, and 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition.
  3. Inspect the seller and condition. A retailer’s product page may combine first-party inventory with third-party marketplace offers. Confirm whether the seller is the retailer itself, Microsoft, or another company. Also check whether the console is new, open-box, used, or refurbished.
  4. Continue through checkout. Shipping availability, delivery estimates, taxes, and return terms can change after a ZIP code is entered. Treat an item as practically in stock only when the order can proceed for your location on the live page.
  5. Compare the complete offer. Check the final price, seller, warranty, return window, included controller, disc-drive status, storage size, and regional compatibility before paying.

What the current retailer evidence actually shows

The checked Best Buy page for the standard 1TB Series X identifies model RRT-00001, but the visible purchasing evidence was supplied by marketplace sellers rather than confirmed ordinary Best Buy inventory. The page named United Technology as the seller and showed new and open-box offers ranging from $629.99 to $899.99. Those figures should not be presented as Best Buy’s official price or Microsoft’s MSRP. Before buying, inspect the seller, condition, warranty, and return policy.

  • UP TO 120 FPS GAMEPLAY — Enjoy smooth, responsive gaming with frame rates up to 120 FPS, powered by XBOX Velocity Architecture, a custom NVMe SSD, and DirectX Raytracing for a heightened level of realism.
  • 512GB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 512GB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.
  • QUICK RESUME — Seamlessly switch between multiple games and resume exactly where you left off. No more waiting through title screens and loading bars.
  • FOUR GENERATIONS OF DIGITAL GAMES — Play thousands of digital games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX with backward compatibility. Many titles are enhanced for better visuals and performance. Smart Delivery ensures you always get the best version for your console.

Retail trackers can help identify stores to check, but they are directional snapshots. The current Windows Central tracker reports retailer-by-retailer differences and notes pricing changes effective August 1, 2026. Linked offers may be affiliate or marketplace listings, and retailer stock can change faster than an editorial tracker. Use a tracker to find a candidate store, then verify the live product page and checkout status.

Amazon is another retailer to check, but a generic Amazon search is not enough. Confirm the listing’s seller, condition, fulfillment, warranty, and total price. A marketplace listing at a high premium is not evidence that Microsoft or the retailer has raised the official console price.

Certified refurbished, open-box, and used are different

These categories should not be lumped together:

  • Microsoft Certified Refurbished: Microsoft describes these as previously used units that are screened, repaired, tested, cleaned, and repackaged. They are sold exclusively through the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft describes a 90-day console warranty subject to the terms of the particular listing.
  • Open-box: A returned or opened unit whose condition, included accessories, and warranty depend on the retailer’s grading and policy.
  • Used or previously played: A pre-owned console whose wear, controller condition, remaining warranty, and included cables may vary significantly by seller.

The checked certified-refurbished 1TB Series X page showed out of stock, so refurbished inventory is a possible lower-cost route rather than a dependable source of stock. When comparing an offer, verify that the controller is included, the disc drive matches what you need, the console is intended for your region, and the return period is long enough to test it.

Why the listed price may look different from older guides

Microsoft announced on June 25, 2026 that U.S. Xbox console prices would increase effective August 1, 2026, citing higher storage and memory costs. The announcement also referenced buy-now-pay-later, financing, previously played-console, and certified-refurbished programs as additional purchasing routes. The availability and terms of those programs can vary, so do not assume that an installment option or previously played unit is offered on every console page.

For that reason, older articles may show prices that no longer match the current U.S. catalog. The safest comparison is between the current official catalog price and the final, delivered price for a specific retailer offer—not between a current marketplace listing and an old MSRP.

Do you need an Xbox Series X storage expansion card?

The 1TB internal SSD can fill quickly, especially with large Series X|S games. Microsoft identifies Storage Expansion Cards for Xbox Series X|S as compatible accessories designed to add capacity while matching the console’s custom-SSD performance.

Seagate and WD_BLACK C50 expansion cards remain the relevant product families to investigate. Prices and stock for 1TB and 2TB cards are volatile, and some listings may be unavailable or supplied by marketplaces. A standard USB drive can still be useful for storing games, but it does not provide the same direct-play behavior for optimized Series X|S titles. In practice, you may need to move an optimized game to the internal SSD or a compatible expansion card before playing it.

When budgeting for a console, decide whether the Digital Edition’s lower entry price still works after adding storage. Also check the box contents before buying additional equipment: the Xbox Wireless Headset, Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, an extra Xbox Wireless Controller, and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable are adjacent purchase options, but you may not need them immediately or may already have compatible accessories.

Xbox Series X stock buying checklist

  • Identify the exact model: 1TB Carbon Black, 1TB Digital Edition, or 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition.
  • Decide whether you need an optical disc drive before choosing the Digital Edition.
  • Compare the offer with Microsoft’s current U.S. catalog price.
  • Confirm the seller is first-party or understand the marketplace seller’s terms.
  • Confirm new, open-box, used, or certified-refurbished condition.
  • Check included controller, cables, storage capacity, warranty, and return window.
  • Enter your ZIP code and verify that the console is shippable before treating it as in stock.
  • Be cautious with offers materially above catalog pricing unless the premium is justified by guaranteed availability, condition, or included extras.
  • Recheck the final total immediately before placing the order because stock and marketplace pricing can change.

Bottom line

Xbox Series X has not disappeared from the U.S. market: Microsoft still lists three current configurations, starting at $599.99 for the 1TB Digital Edition, $649.99 for the 1TB disc model, and $799.99 for the 2TB Special Edition. The real stock situation is uneven. Check the exact SKU through Microsoft and major retailers, verify the seller and condition, and rely on a successful ZIP-code checkout—not a static listing or tracker page—as proof that a console is available to buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Xbox Series X discontinued?

No. Microsoft’s U.S. catalog still lists the 1TB Carbon Black, 1TB Digital Edition, and 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition. However, an official product page does not guarantee that every model is immediately shippable to every ZIP code.

What is the cheapest Xbox Series X?

The new 1TB Digital Edition is the least expensive listed configuration at $599.99. Certified-refurbished models are listed at lower prices when available: $499.99 for the Digital Edition and $549.99 for the 1TB disc-equipped Series X.

Does a Best Buy Xbox Series X listing mean Best Buy has it in stock?

Not necessarily. The checked Best Buy page identified a third-party marketplace seller, United Technology, with new and open-box offers from $629.99 to $899.99. Check the seller, condition, warranty, and return terms instead of assuming the offer is first-party Best Buy stock.

Do I need an Xbox Series X storage expansion card?

A compatible Storage Expansion Card is the best fit when you want additional capacity with the console’s custom-SSD performance. Standard USB storage can be useful for storing games, but it does not provide the same direct-play behavior for optimized Series X|S titles.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Xbox Series X is still officially sold in the U.S., but live stock varies by model, retailer, seller, condition, and ZIP code. Verify the exact offer and checkout availability before treating any listing as in stock.
