What does “exclusive” mean in this comparison?
“First-party” describes the publisher or studio relationship. “Console-exclusive” asks whether a game is available on a competing console under the stated release arrangement. PC availability is a separate question, so a game can be unavailable on PlayStation or Xbox while still launching on Windows or Steam.

How does Xbox’s current exclusives strategy work?
Xbox now has two overlapping lanes: games it labels console-exclusive and games it publishes across Xbox, PC and, selectively, PlayStation. That makes the Xbox catalog potentially easier to access without buying an Xbox console, but it also means the Xbox brand alone does not identify the hardware you need.
Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution
The June 7, 2026 Xbox Games Showcase used explicit, non-timed language for Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution. The showcase announced October 6, 2026 for Gears of War: E-Day. Halo: Campaign Evolved
Halo: Campaign Evolved illustrates why franchise ownership and console exclusivity are different. PlayStation’s FAQ states that Astro Bot is exclusively available for PS5. The company describes it as a 3D action-platformer that uses DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, and says its scope includes more than 50 planets. Those are PlayStation’s descriptions and feature claims, not independent review scores or performance measurements.
For hardware-focused buyers, PlayStation also names a DualSense ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition controller. The accessory is separate from the game’s platform status and should not be treated as evidence that the game is available only in a particular bundle.
SAROS
The SAROS FAQ says the game is exclusive to PS5 consoles and gives April 30, 2026 as its release date. PlayStation describes it as a single-player action game from Housemarque. Ghost of Yōtei

Are Halo and Forza still Xbox exclusives?

That answer applies to the named releases, not every game in either franchise. A series can contain older entries, remasters or future projects with different platform arrangements. Check the exact edition and release announcement whenever a franchise is the main reason for a purchase.
Does a PC release mean a PlayStation game is on Xbox?
No. PC and competing-console availability are separate axes. A PlayStation Studios game can receive a Windows port without appearing on Xbox, just as an Xbox game can launch on Steam and PlayStation without losing its Xbox publishing identity.

Start with a must-play list
Write down three to five specific titles, not just franchises. For example, Astro Bot and SAROS provide explicit PS5-specific reasons in the cited material, while Gears of War: E-Day provides an Xbox console-exclusive example. If you already own a Windows PC, Play Anywhere or a Steam release may change the value of an Xbox console. A PC port attached to a PlayStation Studios game does not imply Xbox access. Confirm cross-save and multiplayer policies separately.
Compare purchase, subscription and physical options
Decide whether you want a permanent digital license, a disc, or temporary catalog access. For Ghost of Yōtei, PlayStation names a Standard Edition Blu-ray disc. How should you choose between Xbox and PlayStation?
- Name the exact games. Separate must-play titles from games you would only try if included in a subscription.
- Classify each release. Mark it as Xbox-console exclusive, PS5-exclusive, multiplatform, PC-only alongside console access, or uncertain pending a store check.
- Audit your current hardware. A Windows PC may already cover an eligible Xbox Play Anywhere purchase or a Steam release.
- Check the commercial path. Compare disc, digital and subscription access, including catalog removal and membership requirements.
