The 2024 refresh of the Xbox Wireless Headset adds Dolby Atmos at no extra cost and raises Xbox’s advertised battery estimate from up to 15 hours to up to 20 hours. Xbox also says it improved auto-mute and voice isolation and updated Bluetooth to version 5.3. The 20-hour figure is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee of real-world runtime.
What changed in the 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset?
Microsoft announced the refreshed Xbox Wireless Headset on October 22, 2024. The update covers audio, battery life, microphone features and Bluetooth connectivity; it is distinct from the Xbox Stereo Headset and other Xbox-compatible models.

Does the Xbox Wireless Headset include Dolby Atmos?
Yes. Xbox says Dolby Atmos is available with the refreshed headset at no extra cost. Atmos is a spatial-audio format, but whether you hear it depends on supported content and compatible hardware; the feature does not mean every game, device or audio source uses Atmos. Xbox also lists DTS Headphone:X among supported audio technologies, but that format may require an additional purchase, an app download and supported hardware. Dolby’s headset information provides Dolby Access context; its general app trial language should not be mistaken for Xbox’s specific claim that Atmos is included with this headset.
How long does the battery last, and how long does charging take?
Xbox advertises up to 20 hours per charge. That is a ceiling estimate, not a promised runtime: Microsoft says battery life varies significantly with distance from the console, accessories and usage, and says its battery testing used pre-production units. The current US Xbox product page also estimates about four hours of use from a 30-minute charge and about three hours for a full charge when the headset is not in use. Actual results can vary with the setup and how the headset is used.
