TEMPUR described its NASA Punk styling and joystick controls, and reported plans for later exhibitions and a charity raffle, but its account does not confirm those events took place or establish that the chair was ever sold.
What was the TEMPUR Starfield gaming cockpit?
It was a bespoke collaboration between TEMPUR and Xbox, created to celebrate Starfield and its space-exploration theme. TEMPUR’s October 8, 2023 account says designer Nicholas Alexander and his team designed and hand-built the chair. It appeared at Xbox’s Gamescom booth ahead of Starfield’s September 6, 2023 launch, as noted in Xbox’s showcase recap.

The chair was presented as a cockpit experience rather than an ordinary office-style gaming seat. Xbox global partnerships director Marcos Waltenberg described a modular cockpit intended to evoke piloting a spaceship, according to TEMPUR’s account of the collaboration.
What did it look like, and how did the controls work?
TEMPUR says the chair drew on Starfield’s NASA Punk visual style and had a joystick built into each armrest. The sticks could rotate left and right, allowing independent movement controls. That makes the cockpit’s defining feature its physical, two-handed control concept—not simply its branded upholstery.

What does NASA Punk mean in Starfield?
Starfield art director Istvan Pely described NASA Punk as a design approach meant to capture the wonder of space exploration and the romance of early spaceflight. In Microsoft’s September 6, 2023 behind-the-scenes feature, Pely said the technology should look advanced while remaining grounded and relatable.
That idea also appears in the game’s ships, which Microsoft describes as retro and analog, with buttons and switches rather than touchscreens, and surfaces that look worn and lived in. A physical cockpit with joystick controls fits that visual language more closely than a sleek, futuristic touchscreen interface.
Can you buy the chair?
The available account does not establish a retail release, retail price, or standard model for sale. TEMPUR said in October 2023 that it planned to show the chair at Saturn Xperion in Germany after Gamescom, display it for a month at its store in London’s Stratford shopping centre during October, and include it in a charity raffle by the end of 2023. Those are plans reported at the time; the account does not confirm whether they were completed.

As a result, the chair is best understood as a one-off showcase piece, not a product shoppers can assume is available to order. TEMPUR’s description of pressure-absorbing material and comfort is brand commentary, not an independent ergonomic test; no chair performance measurements are established in the cited account.

Xbox announced other Starfield-themed products separately from the TEMPUR cockpit. They are accessories, not components of the chair. Xbox Wire’s June 12, 2023 announcement listed these launch-era details:
| Product | Type and details | Announcement price |
|---|---|---|
| Starfield Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller | Xbox wireless controller | $79.99 USD, recommended price at announcement; supplies were limited |
| Starfield Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Headset | Xbox wireless headset | $124.99 USD, recommended price at announcement; supplies were limited |
| Seagate Starfield Special Edition Game Drive and Game Hub | Officially licensed storage products; 2TB, 5TB, and 8TB options were announced | $109.99, $169.99, and $239.99 USD, respectively, at announcement |
Those prices are historical announcement prices, not current listings or confirmation of stock. The controller is the most direct alternative for someone seeking a Starfield-branded gaming accessory; the storage products serve a different purpose from either a chair or an input device.
