Adding Grand Theft Auto VI to a PlayStation wishlist tracks the game. It does not purchase it. The purchase step is a separate action: the preorder option on the store page. As of October 8, 2026, the US PlayStation Store lists GTA VI for PS5 with preorder editions, so the wishlist and the preorder are two different things, and the difference matters for what you get from each.
What a wishlist entry does
A wishlist is a way to keep an item in one place. PlayStation’s PS5 notification guidance describes a setting that lets you “See when there are updates to items on your wishlist.” That is the extent of the wishlist’s documented function: it links the game to your account so that updates to it can reach you.
PlayStation’s support wording does not go further than that. Nothing in it says a wishlist reserves a copy, locks in the current price, or guarantees a discount alert. If you want any of those things, you need to take a purchase action, and the wishlist does not substitute for one.

The listing describes the game this way: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.” The DualSense features are a property of the game, not a requirement. You do not need a DualSense to wishlist or preorder.

The GTA+ offer is tied to preordering
The US listing advertises one month of GTA+ with preorder. The terms shown on the listing are:
- The offer is attached to the preorder action, not to adding the game to a wishlist.
- The offer ends November 19, 2026.
- The included month must be redeemed by March 31, 2027.
- The offer is limited to one redemption per account.
- The subscription auto-renews until you cancel it.
The auto-renewal is the term most likely to matter after the promotion. The included month is not a permanent free period, and a GTA+ subscription that continues past it is billed unless you cancel. Read the offer terms on the listing before you preorder, and decide whether you want the subscription at all.

Will PlayStation notify you about GTA VI?
If you have wishlisted the game and enabled the setting PlayStation describes as seeing updates to wishlist items, you can receive notifications about updates to it. PlayStation’s guidance does not specify what counts as an update, how often notifications arrive, or whether a price change is among them. Treat the notification as a way to hear about changes to the listing, not as a guaranteed price alert.

- Wishlist only if you want the game tracked and do not want to pay yet. You will not receive the GTA+ offer, and you should not assume the wishlist holds a price.
- Preorder if you have decided on an edition and want the listed promotional terms. Review the GTA+ auto-renewal before you confirm.
- Do both if you want to keep the item visible while you decide. The wishlist does not affect what happens at preorder.
The title’s “not what you think” comes down to this: a wishlist entry is a tracking and notification tool, and a preorder is the purchase.
