The EA app message “Your game failed to launch” is a general launcher failure, not a diagnosis of one broken file or setting. It can appear during an EA service outage, while the app is stuck in an offline or stale state, when your connection or account prevents online play, or when the client itself needs attention. Check EA’s service status before changing anything, then clear the app cache, reduce local network interference, confirm the app is current, and report persistent failures with an EA Error Reporter ID and logs. No step is guaranteed because EA has said the underlying causes can vary.
What does “Your game failed to launch” mean in the EA app?
It means the EA app could not complete the hand-off from the launcher to the game. The accompanying text often says, “An error on our end caused the launch to fail. What should I check before changing the EA app?
Check service availability first. A server-side failure cannot be repaired by deleting a local cache or reinstalling the launcher.
1. Open EA’s service-status page
The status page reports current conditions for the EA app, EA games, EA Play, and platform services including Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. Look for the specific game and the platform you use, not just a general EA indicator.
- If the affected service is down: wait for the service to recover and check the status page again before making local changes.
- If the service is operational: continue with the local checks below. An “operational” indicator does not rule out a small regional or account-specific problem, but it makes a local test worthwhile.
Record the time and the exact wording if you eventually contact support. Status can change while you are troubleshooting, and the timestamp helps distinguish an outage from a persistent client failure.
How do I clear the EA app cache?
Cache clearing is a low-risk recovery step for an app stuck in offline mode, an app that is not updating, stalled downloads or updates, or games that have disappeared from the Library. EA explicitly warns that cache clearing cannot fix an outage or a server going down.
Windows 10 or Windows 11 when the EA app opens
- Open the EA app.

Windows when the EA app will not open

How can my connection or other apps stop an EA game from launching?
EA’s connection guidance treats launch failures as a possible networking or account-state problem. Test the simplest variables first so you can tell whether the result changes.

Every running application consumes processing time and memory. Quit browsers with many tabs, download tools, overlays, and other programs you do not need for the test. Do not disable security software permanently; if you investigate a security conflict, use only the temporary, vendor-documented test and restore protection afterward.
Restart the router
Power-cycle your router according to its manufacturer’s instructions, wait for the connection to return, and then retry the game. This can refresh a transient connection state, but it will not correct an EA outage or an account restriction.
Try a different DNS only when appropriate
EA lists changing DNS as a possible connection check. DNS changes affect how your computer finds online services; they do not repair a failed EA service. If you change the setting, record the original values so you can restore them if the test makes no difference.
Test Ethernet if you normally use Wi-Fi
EA states that a hardwired connection can be much more reliable than wireless. Connecting the computer to the router with Ethernet is therefore a useful comparison test, not a guaranteed fix. Check account and subscription restrictions
EA’s connection guidance also calls out account or subscription restrictions that can block online play. Verify that you are signed into the intended EA account and that the account has the entitlement or subscription required by the game and platform. If another platform account is linked, confirm that you are not testing with a different profile from the one that owns or accesses the game.
How do I know whether the EA app is up to date?
EA’s official error discussion asks affected players to check their current EA app version and make sure the client is updated. Use the app’s normal update prompt when it appears, let the update complete, and restart the app before testing the game again. The discussion does not specify one universal update path for every release, so do not rely on an old menu sequence if your current interface labels it differently.

Submit an EA Error Reporter report
- Open EA Error Reporter from the EA app, or start it independently if the launcher cannot open.
- Select the problem type that best matches the failed launch.
- Describe what happened, including the exact message, game, operating system, platform, and the checks you already performed.
- Submit the report.
- Keep the resulting Report ID. Include it in any support case or follow-up conversation.
The Report ID is the link between your description and the diagnostic submission. Without it, support may have difficulty locating the report you intended to reference.
Gather the logs EA asks for

EA also documents the game’s installer log in its __InstallerInstallLog folder. Attach the relevant file or folder as support instructs, rather than sending unrelated personal files. Tell support whether the failure occurs with one game or several, whether it happens after signing in or only after pressing Play, and whether the service-status page showed an incident. State whether cache recovery, a router restart, a wired test, or an app update changed the result. This makes the Report ID and logs easier to interpret.

What if only one game fails while other EA games work?
A single-game failure makes a broad EA outage less likely, but it does not prove the game files are damaged. Confirm that the affected title is present in the Library, that the signed-in account has access, and that the platform service associated with that title is operational. Record whether another EA game launches successfully and include that comparison in your Error Reporter description.
What if every EA game fails?
When several titles fail at the same time, check EA and platform status before changing local files. If the services are operational, the common factors are more informative: the EA app’s cache and version, the account session, background applications, and the network path. Run one controlled test at a time and note the result so you do not lose track of which condition changed.
